Seeing Grandma Jiang's appearance, Jiang Zhitang shuddered. He frowned and asked in bewilderment, "What's wrong with Mother? Has she been possessed by a ghost?"
Thinking of this, Jiang Zhitang trembled all over, and asked in a somewhat fearful manner, "Mother... what... what's wrong?"
Grandma Jiang leaned close to Jiang Zhitang and whispered to him, "Son, I heard from your wife that your eldest sister's youngest son isn't her biological child?"
"What?" Before Grandma Jiang could finish speaking, Jiang Zhitang yelled out.
Grandma Jiang quickly gave Jiang Zhitang another slap, "Keep your voice down! If people hear us, they'll think something's happened in our house!"
Jiang Zhitang covered his mouth, his eyes wide, "Mother, you...you must not be lying to me!"
Grandma Jiang slapped him again: "What nonsense! When have I ever lied to you! Besides, these words came from your daughter-in-law's mouth, what does it have to do with me!"
Jiang Zhitang sensed that his mother was a little angry, so he quickly comforted her, "No... I... I misspoke just now. Then why did you call me, Mother?"
"Oh dear, you idiot! I'm giving you a task now: go and investigate that boy's background. His mother is from Shengjing, so she must have some influence. If we send this child there, that family will be very grateful to us!" Old Mrs. Jiang said, rolling her beady eyes.
"But Mother, if the child's birth mother really comes looking for him, why doesn't the child go with her? It must be because the birth mother doesn't want him!"
Jiang Zhitang's words were like a bucket of cold water poured on Old Mrs. Jiang, who immediately showed a disappointed expression. But then she seemed to remember something and smiled again.
“Son, you go first. What if your eldest sister doesn’t want to give it to us? You know what kind of person your eldest sister is! Think about it, what if they want it? Wouldn’t we be able to get a lot of money?” Old Mrs. Jiang became more and more excited as she spoke, and her voice became hoarse by the end.
Jiang Zhitang thought for a moment and decided not to disobey Old Madam Jiang. He nodded and said, "I understand, Mother, but I'm not sure I can succeed in this!"
"Alright, then keep a close eye on that kid these days! Tell me immediately if you find anything! Go back now, or your wife will start asking all sorts of questions when she sees you!" After saying that, Grandma Jiang pushed Jiang Zhitang out.
That afternoon, Grandma Jiang had a dream in which box after box of real gold and silver was delivered to her. In the dream, she hugged the gold and silver and laughed so hard that she could hardly stop smiling.
At midnight, in the Third Prince's mansion, Xiao Hai quietly entered the study.
"Master, the matter has been taken care of!" Xiao Hai whispered.
"Really?" Although the Third Prince did not show his emotions, one could detect some excitement in his tone.
Xiao Hai nodded.
"Good! Invite Jiang over tomorrow, and remember to say some nice things!" the Third Prince instructed.
Xiao Hai nodded silently and then left the Third Prince's study.
Jiang Ling, who was originally asleep, suddenly shivered, frowned, changed her position, and did not open her eyes.
The next morning, as soon as Jiang Ling stepped out, Xiao Hai came to her side.
Upon noticing this, Jiang Shan immediately drew his weapon.
Xiao Hai quickly stopped in his tracks: "Don't misunderstand, don't misunderstand, Anren, I am Xiao Hai from the Third Prince's side!"
Xiao Hai, worried about a conflict with Jiang Shan, immediately stood still and did not continue to act.
"You said you're He Shunsu's subordinate?" Jiang Ling frowned as she looked at Xiao Hai.
He Shunsu also brought Jiang Ling a lot of nightmares. She still remembers how He Shunsu treated her before because of Nianci.
“Yes, Madam, I am a subordinate of the Third Prince! The Third Prince has invited you and hopes you can go!” Xiao Hai said.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ling's face immediately turned cold, and she turned to leave.
Upon seeing this, Xiao Hai immediately chased after him, only to find a gleaming weapon resting on his shoulder.
Just as Xiao Hai was about to lose his temper, the Third Prince's instructions from yesterday came again.
He could only force a smile at the cold-faced Jiang Shan: "Sir, please put down your weapon and let me explain, okay?"
Jiang Shan ignored Xiao Hai. These lackeys from Shengjing were all glib and slick. He snorted and said, "I can put down my weapon, but you'd better get out of my sight right now, or don't blame me for not giving the Third Prince any face!"
Hearing this, Xiao Hai knew that he couldn't reach an agreement with Jiang Shan. He waved his hand and shouted at Jiang Ling, "Princess! Princess! Can you listen to me? I know you had some misunderstandings with the Prince before, but this time it's about Ye Feng, about Constable Ye!"
Upon hearing the name "Ye Feng," Jiang Ling's foot, which had been about to step forward, suddenly froze in mid-air.
She turned to look at Xiaohai, her expression still serious: "Xiaohai, is what you said true?"
"Of course! This time it really is about Officer Ye!" Xiao Hai continued.
Jiang Ling quickly walked back and gestured for Jiang Shan to put away his weapons.
Jiang Ling looked around. Luckily, this was the outskirts and there weren't many people around. She glanced at Xiao Hai and said, "Be careful, walls have ears. Let's talk when we get home!"
Xiao Hai nodded and went back to Jiang Zhishan's house with Jiang Ling.
As soon as Ma opened the door, she saw the scene before her and hurriedly ran out to greet Jiang Ling warmly, but her eyes kept glancing at Xiao Hai.
Xiao Hai was a martial artist, so how could he miss Madam Ma's little trick? He coughed lightly and said, "Madam, we should talk about serious matters!"
Jiang Ling nodded and continued leading Xiao Hai into her house, while instructing Jiang Shan to guard the door and prevent anyone from approaching.
Although Ma was curious, she didn't have the courage to approach Jiang Shan because of his fierce look. After thinking for a moment, Ma walked towards Old Madam Jiang's room.
