Chapter 40 Business? Familiar Deal?

"Mrs. Jiang, I've already agreed to help Dahua Village find a water source, but how are we supposed to find it?" The village chief scratched his head, looking somewhat troubled.

Jiang Ling was slightly surprised after hearing this; she hadn't expected the village chief to agree so quickly.

She hadn't had a chance to tell Jiang Yaojie how she found the water source.

Jiang Ling stroked her chin and said, "Village Chief, you should go back and rest for a while. I'll bring Yaojie to your house in a bit. Yaojie has already thought of a way to find water. I also need to discuss the matter of the guard team with you."

After hearing Jiang Ling's answer, the village chief finally felt relieved. He nodded, put his hands behind his back, and walked towards his home.

Seeing the village chief leave, Jiang Ling closed her courtyard gate, waved to Jiang Yaojie and said, "Yaojie, come here, your mother has something to tell you."

"Grandpa Village Chief came to me just now, wanting us to help Dahua Village find a water source. I really hope you can do this for us. The White-Haired Goddess did tell Mother how to find a water source when she appeared in her dream before."

Jiang Yaojie looked slightly surprised upon hearing this.

He touched his nose and stood there, unsure of what to say. Jiang Ling continued, "Yaojie, Mother believes you can do it!"

"The method for finding water sources is actually very simple. You just need to look for places in the mountains where mushrooms grow. Mushrooms generally prefer dark and damp environments, which proves that the soil nearby must be moist."

"Then you light this..." Jiang Ling said, magically producing several stalks of mugwort, which had been hanging on the door of the old house before, and Jiang Ling had just taken them down.

"Mother, what's the use of this?" Jiang Yaojie asked, puzzled.

"Mugwort is the best thing to find water. After you find the mushrooms, light them. When they come into contact with water, the smoke will rise. Just remember where it rises, and there will definitely be a water source around there!"

Worried that Jiang Yaojie wouldn't understand the meaning of her words, Jiang Ling lit the mugwort in her hand. Soon, smoke drifted out from the mugwort, flowing downwards and gradually spreading throughout the old house. Just as the smoke reached the vicinity of the water bucket, the downward-flowing smoke suddenly began to rise slowly.

"See that? You can definitely find a water source using this method," Jiang Ling said, pointing to the rising smoke.

Jiang Yaojie was almost dumbfounded. After a long while, he mechanically turned around and stammered, "Mother... this... what kind of magical magic is this?"

Jiang Ling said casually, "Yes, it's the White-Haired Goddess's magic method."

Anyway, Jiang Ling has figured it out now. The white-haired woman is no longer here, so it's best to just push everything onto her. Besides, that woman is like a goddess in the hearts of the people in Lujia Village.

Jiang Yaojie nodded, seemingly understanding what Jiang Ling had just said, but his eyes remained fixed on the rising smoke from the mugwort.

"Yaojie, go to the kitchen and fill a pot with 'spicy grass' water to take to Grandpa Village Chief!" Jiang Ling patted Jiang Yaojie on the shoulder and said.

At this moment, the village chief's door was half open, and Jiang Ling thought for a moment before politely knocking on the door.

Soon, the village chief appeared from inside the door.

"Jiang, come in quickly, come in quickly!"

Judging from the village chief's anxious look, he must have been waiting for a long time.

Jiang Ling nodded and pulled Jiang Yaojie inside.

Since Jiang Ling discovered the potatoes and water source, her status in Lujia Village has undergone a dramatic change.

Even the village chief's two sons and daughters-in-law greeted Jiang Ling with kind smiles.

"Jiang, what is this?" The village chief's gaze fell on the teapot in Jiang Yaojie's hand as soon as he sat down.

“Village Chief, you are very knowledgeable. I want to go to the next town to do some small business. I just made some mint water and brought it over so you can try it.” Jiang Ling glanced at Jiang Yaojie.

Jiang Yaojie skillfully poured the mint water from the teapot into the teacup in front of the village chief.

"This..." The village chief hesitated to take a sip of the pale green liquid in the teacup.

But then I thought that I had no grudge against Jiang, and besides, it was broad daylight, so she wouldn't dare to poison me.

The village chief, feigning composure, picked up his teacup and took a small sip.

"Huh? This...this is so delicious! Sweet and refreshing..." The village chief was taken aback after taking a sip.

He rushed off to Dahua Village early in the morning, and the round trip had almost made his throat burn. Although he drank a lot of water when he got home, he still felt like there was a fire burning in his lungs.

The pale green liquid extinguished the fire in my lungs as soon as I drank it, and my whole body felt cool and incredibly refreshing.

"Village chief, what do you think about buying this for three coins a pot?" Jiang Ling asked tentatively.

The village chief smacked his lips, nodded, and didn't say anything.

Jiang Ling stole a glance at the village chief's expression, and sure enough, the village chief was still enjoying the coolness brought to him by the mint water.

"Dad, what's so delicious you've got? Let me try some!" Lu Chengcai couldn't help but be curious after seeing his father's expression.

"Cough...cough...Jiang and I were discussing serious matters. Why are you interrupting us?" The village chief suddenly came to his senses, turned around, and scolded.

Lu Chengcai, feeling humiliated, hung his head and prepared to go back. Jiang Ling stood up and said to Lu Chengcai, "Brother Lu, I'll have Yaojie bring you another pot later, so you can try it too."

"Oh dear, Jiang Shi, this is so embarrassing. Lu Cheng, why don't you go and check on our family? What's the point of you standing around at home like this?" The village chief was a little embarrassed and glared at his eldest son.

"It's alright, we have plenty more at home. It'll be good for everyone to try, and I'll have peace of mind knowing what's available. Yaojie, pour another cup for your village chief grandpa." Jiang Ling said, then winked at Jiang Yaojie.
