The Empress Dowager's expression froze for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure.
"Third Prince, how dare you be so presumptuous! I am very disappointed!" The Empress Dowager adjusted her posture and said with some displeasure.
"Your Majesty, aren't you disappointed?" He Shunsu placed the things Jiang Shan had left for him in front of the Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager was secretly surprised, but her expression was unusually relaxed. She squinted and carefully examined the powder that she was very familiar with, but her tone still revealed confusion.
"Oh? Third brother, what is this? Why are you showing it to me?"
Hearing this, He Shunsu looked at the Empress Dowager with a forced smile and said, "Empress Mother, aren't you familiar with these things? You wouldn't want me to recall everything that happened before, would you?"
"How dare you! Third Prince, you're becoming increasingly audacious!" The Empress Dowager slammed her hand on the phoenix throne and scolded.
Unexpectedly, He Shunsu remained unconcerned. He looked at the Empress Dowager and continued, "Empress Mother, shouldn't one leave a way out for others? Aren't you afraid that I might harbor evil intentions towards my brother by driving you to such extremes?"
"Shut up! Third Prince! You and His Majesty are brothers! You have a bond as strong as siblings. How can you compare to that little bastard!" The Empress Dowager seemed a little anxious as she spoke, revealing her previous thoughts.
He Shunsu's eyes flashed with disgust upon hearing this, and he said, enunciating each word clearly, "What! Empress Dowager, are you admitting it?"
The Empress Dowager, realizing she had spoken out of turn, covered her mouth and remained silent for a long time.
He Shunsu was utterly disappointed in the Empress Dowager. He knelt before her and kowtowed heavily. "Since that's the case, I won't bother you any longer. Long live the Empress Dowager!"
Without waiting for the Empress Dowager to say anything more, He Shunsu got up, turned around, and left.
"Third Prince! Third Prince!" The Empress Dowager's voice rang in He Shunsu's ears, but to him at that moment it was extremely grating.
After leaving the imperial city, He Shunsu rushed to Qingxin Courtyard where Jiang Ling was.
Just as He Shunsu arrived at the entrance, two eunuchs guarding the door blocked his way.
He Shunsu was a dignified Third Prince; he had never been treated like this before.
He glared at him and yelled, "Get the hell out of my way right now!"
"No! Lord Zhao said that no one is allowed to enter without an order!" said the young eunuch Wang Jia.
"Get the hell out of here! Do you know who I am? I am the dignified Third Prince He Shunsu! You dare to stop me and court death!" He Shunsu slapped Wang Jia across the face.
The slap was so powerful that Wang Jia spat out two teeth, and his left cheek swelled up high.
Hearing the commotion at the door, Jiang Ling followed Lan Zhi and Lan Ting to the door and opened it.
"Why are you getting so angry so early in the morning? Wang Jia is just a servant. Look at what you did to him!" Jiang Ling frowned, rolled her eyes, and complained as she looked at the bloodstain and two teeth on the ground.
He Shunsu didn't care about any of that. He flicked his sleeve and said, "Who told him to stop me! In Shengjing, no one dares to stop me except in the capital!"
After saying that, He Shunsu walked inside. Jiang Ling looked at Wang Jia's reddened eyes with some helplessness.
The child was only fifteen years old, a year younger than Jiang Yaojie. Jiang Ling sighed, took a piece of silver from her bosom, and placed it in Wang Jia's arms, saying, "Don't take it to heart. Everyone in Shengjing knows that the Third Prince is violent and eccentric. You were just following orders. I'm sorry you had to suffer!"
Just as Jiang Ling finished speaking, a figure darted out from behind her and then threw a silver ingot into Wang Jia's arms.
"Hmph! How could I be so violent and eccentric! Keep this silver ingot, consider it a sign of my impulsiveness just now!" With that, he snorted and swaggered towards the study.
Jiang Ling was completely helpless. She patted Wang Jia on the shoulder as a simple consolation.
Jiang Ling then hurriedly walked towards the study.
"Why did my imperial brother lock you up here?" He Shunsu asked with a playful expression, fiddling with the calligraphy brush on the table.
"Isn't this unnecessary? Didn't Jiang Shan tell you that?" Jiang Ling said irritably as she sat down to the side.
"Tch, she's got quite a temper!" He Shunsu then imitated Jiang Ling, crossing his arms and turning his head.
Jiang Ling was completely at a loss with He Shunsu. Could it be that the rumors in Shengjing said He Shunsu was a devil incarnate? If so, such a title was not an exaggeration at all!
"If it weren't for you, Nianci and I wouldn't have been killed!" Thinking of this, Jiang Ling's face turned pale, and she complained with a tight-lipped expression.
"Alright, alright, this is my fault. So what do you want me to do?" He Shunsu asked somewhat helplessly, as the root of the problem was indeed He Shunsu.
Jiang Ling glanced out the window, making sure no one was listening, before slowly saying, "After I finish translating these things, I'll leave with Nianci! Until he comes to Shengjing on his own initiative, I hope you won't go looking for him!"
“Although I have Jiang Shan and three others to protect Nianci’s safety, there are still several people in my family, and I just became a grandmother. You don’t want me to die too soon, do you? My younger brother, Zhishan, just passed the imperial examination with top honors and got married. You don’t want his future to be ruined, do you?”
At this point, Jiang Ling took a sip of tea from the table and then said something that left He Shunsu speechless.
"In the end, Nianci is not my biological child. If it comes down to sacrificing him to protect our whole family, I might really sacrifice him!"
Jiang Ling's words were very blunt, which made He Shunsu very uncomfortable. But then he thought about it and realized that this matter did indeed start with him. Moreover, if the Empress Dowager really wanted to send secret guards to kill him, the four servants of the Jiang family would be completely unable to resist.
