Chapter 6 Changning Town

As the saying goes, a half-grown boy can eat his father to death. Jiang Yaojie is at the age where he can eat a lot. Last night, that half a sweet potato made Jiang Ling feel hungry, let alone Jiang Yaojie.

Thinking of this, Jiang Ling ignored Jiang Yaojie and said with a smile to the wonton stall owner, "Sister-in-law, give me two bowls of wontons, one big and one small!"

"Alright!" The proprietress smiled and returned to her wonton stall as soon as she saw a customer coming in, and began to cook the wontons quickly.

Soon, steaming bowls of wontons appeared on the table. Jiang Ling pushed the large bowl in front of Jiang Yaojie and said with a stern face, "Why aren't you eating? Do you expect me to feed you?"

"No! No...no..." Jiang Yaojie hurriedly picked up a spoon and began to eat the steaming wontons.

Jiang Ling watched Jiang Yaojie's actions with satisfaction, and then calmly began to eat her wontons.

"How much are two bowls of wontons, ma'am?" Jiang Ling asked after finishing her wontons.

"Two bowls cost fifteen cents in total!"

Jiang Ling didn't think much of it and quickly took out fifteen copper coins from her pocket and placed them on the table, but Jiang Yaojie, who was standing next to her, was secretly astonished when he heard the price.

He vaguely remembered that fifteen copper coins could buy at least five catties of brown rice at the rice shop in town. If a family of four were frugal with their food rations, five catties of brown rice could last at least five or six days.

Although he didn't know how much silver Jiang Ling had pawned, the thought of having eaten so much food over the past few days made him even more depressed. His head drooped even lower.

Jiang Ling noticed that something was wrong with Jiang Yaojie beside her. At first, she thought he hadn't eaten enough, so she quickly comforted him, "Yaojie, are you not full? I'll buy you some steamed buns after we finish shopping!"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yaojie quickly shook his head vigorously, "No, no, I'm already full from the wontons!"

Jiang Ling found it strange, but didn't ask any further questions. Jiang Ling and Jiang Yaojie went to the rice shop together, and the prices written on the rice shop surprised Jiang Ling.

Brown rice here sells for ten copper coins a pound, and the price of white rice is even more shocking, having soared to fifty copper coins a pound.

The flour shop next door wasn't much better; even the coarsest buckwheat noodles cost eight copper coins a pound.

Jiang Ling silently took out ten copper coins from her pocket and placed them in Jiang Yaojie's hand, saying, "Yaojie, go to the general store at the end of the street and buy some salt!"

Jiang Yaojie carefully took the ten copper coins and walked towards the general store at the end of the street.

Jiang Ling quickly slipped into the alley and opened the online store to check the prices.
