Chapter 45 I can’t get enough

Chapter 45 I can’t get enough

The walk back to the hospital wasn't long, but Li Nanshan felt a heavy weight on his shoulders. On one side was his father, who was in critical condition, and on the other was himself, feeling helpless. Just as he was about to reach the hospital entrance, a middle-aged man wearing a Lei Feng hat, hunched over, approached and asked in a low voice, "Comrade, would you like to sell blood?"

"Give me money?"

"Give it to me."

Li Nanshan subconsciously wanted to follow the man, but was stopped from behind.

When he turned around, he met Tao Xiaoxi's brilliant face, which was looking at him brightly under the gray and gloomy sky.

"We're not selling it, thank you!" Tao Xiaoxi turned to the middle-aged man and refused him.

The middle-aged man snorted disdainfully and walked away.

Li Nanshan tried to chase after him, but Tao Xiaoxi grabbed him again. "What are you doing? Selling blood is illegal, don't you know? Are you trying to kill yourself?"

"I need money." Li Nanshan replied without any emotion.

"Will you do anything as long as you are paid?" Tao Xiaoxi asked.

Li Nanshan didn't say anything.

"Okay, Heaven and Earth are my witnesses. Today I, Tao Xiaoxi, will give you the money, and I want you, Li Nanshan, to promise me one thing." After Tao Xiaoxi said that, he took out a cloth bag from his pocket and stuffed it into Li Nanshan's hand.

"What do you want me to do?" Li Nanshan looked at her.

"I haven't made up my mind yet. Take it to treat your father first. I'll tell you when I've made up my mind."

Li Nanshan hesitated for a few seconds, but finally went in with the money.

There was one hundred yuan in that cloth bag, a full one hundred yuan. Tao Xiaoxi had just borrowed it from Zhao Bin. She didn't even have time to eat before she came to the hospital gate to wait for Li Nanshan. After waiting for a long time, Li Nanshan didn't show up. Tao Xiaoxi was about to leave when he came.

As for the condition, she really hadn't thought it through yet, so let him owe it for now.

Thanks to the hundred yuan from Tao Xiaoxi, Old Man Li's illness gradually improved. He asked his son several times which kind-hearted person had lent him the money.

Li Nanshan only said that he was a friend and did not mention Tao Xiaoxi.

On the day he was discharged from the hospital, Old Man Li proposed to personally thank his son's friend. Li Nanshan smiled bitterly and said, "Dad, she's not here. She's very far away. Don't worry about it. I will return her to her."

Old Man Li was a little suspicious. In fact, he had always been suspicious, but he himself didn't know what he was suspicious about. "You didn't hide anything from me?"

"No, everything is packed, let's go back." Li Nanshan picked up the luggage bag and walked towards the door.

Back in Mantou Village, Mrs. Li was so happy to see her husband back that she burst into tears. The whole Li family felt a sense of relief as if they had been reborn after a disaster. Li Nanshan had retired and hadn't visited his medicinal fields for a long time. He didn't know if the herbs were still alive.

Fortunately, they are not only alive, but also doing well. At this rate of growth, we will have a good harvest next month.

This once again reminded him of Tao Xiaoxi, the woman with a clean and bright smile, the woman who stopped him at the hospital door to stop him from doing anything stupid and gave him money. It was time to fulfill his promise.

On the way to the foot of the mountain, Li Nanshan felt vaguely uneasy and expectant. He knew that he would never be able to utter another promise again.

Tao Xiaoxi knew that Li Nanshan would definitely come this time, but he didn't know it would be today. His coming meant that his father was better.

She was chopping wood, and he took the axe from her hand and chopped wood for her.

Tao Xiaoxi didn't refuse. She clapped her hands on her apron, went into the house, poured a cup of tea, and placed it on the chopped firewood beside her.

The two men understood each other tacitly and neither spoke a word until all the firewood on the ground was chopped. Li Nanshan then stacked them up in Tao Xiaoxi's firewood room. Then he picked up the bowl of tea and drank it all in one gulp.

"How does it taste?"

“It’s delicious.”

"Of course you did. You didn't even look at what was in there."

Li Nanshan took a closer look and could only see wolfberry and hawthorn, but he had no idea what the long thing was.

"That's the red flower."

"Red flower?" Li Nanshan frowned, not knowing what red flower was.

"It's a traditional Chinese medicine. If the tea you're drinking is sold in a teahouse, it would only cost five or six yuan." Tao Xiaoxi said deliberately.

Li Nanshan became nervous in an instant, and was at a loss as to what to do with the bowl in his hand.

Tao Xiaoxi laughed and said, "Just kidding, give it to me."

Li Nanshan looked at her doubtfully.

When Tao Xiaoxi put away the tea bowl and came out again, Li Nanshan had regained his calm demeanor, as if the moment he had to face had finally arrived.

"So what do you want me to do?"

"Is your father's illness cured?" Tao Xiaoxi did not answer in a hurry.

"Well, okay, thanks to you."

"I dare not claim this credit. I know he doesn't like me." Tao Xiaoxi joked.

"Actually, he is not very satisfied with my son." Li Nanshan suddenly said this.

"I feel better now that you put it that way. It means the problem isn't with us, it's with your father."

Tao Xiaoxi's open-mindedness and her cleverness all fell into Li Nanshan's eyes, heart, and internal organs, disturbing him and making him uneasy.

"So, what is the requirement?" Li Nanshan brought it up again.

Tao Xiaoxi straightened up, cleared his throat, and said seriously, "Then listen carefully."

"you say."

"I want you to grow herbs on a large scale."

Li Nanshan was shocked. He had thought of many possibilities, such as chopping firewood for her for a year, carrying water for a year, and even farming for her, but he never expected that she would ask him to grow medicinal herbs.

“I’ve already planted it.”
