Chapter 2: Changing Children's Views

"Year after year, come and try my cooking!"

Jiang Yu placed a basin on the table, which contained five or six fried pancakes.

Shen Niannian glanced at Jiang Yu, then at the pancakes in the bowl, and couldn't help but lick her lips.

"Eat."

Jiang Yu pushed the basin forward and looked at him with a loving expression.

Shen Niannian hadn't eaten all day, so he grabbed a pancake and wolfed it down. He had never eaten anything so delicious since birth, and he even picked up the crumbs that fell on his clothes and stuffed them into his mouth.

It smells so good!

Seeing that his mother and sister didn't move, he withdrew his little hand that was reaching for the second pancake.

"Eat up, eat up, then go to sleep."

After Jiang Yu put the pancake in his hand, she ate much slower. He secretly observed his mother, then glanced at his sister, and noticed that she was smacking her lips, looking embarrassed.

"Sui Sui, aren't you going to eat?"

Jiang Yu saw that she was about to stare a hole through the basin and asked softly. Shen Suisui shook her head and didn't say anything.

The original owner of this body had repeatedly threatened to poison them with rat poison in their food, which terrified Shen Suisui. She had specifically warned her younger brother not to eat anything Jiang Yu gave him while she was cooking. However, her brother was young and extremely hungry, and upon seeing food, he completely forgot her warning.

Jiang Yu knew what she was worried about, but didn't explain. Touching her rumbling stomach, she also took a pancake and ate a couple of bites. The original owner had been acting too recklessly lately, not eating, which caused her to go hungry after transmigrating into this body.

While eating, she glanced at Shen Suisui out of the corner of her eye. Seeing that Shen Suisui seemed eager but hesitant, she simply handed her the pancake.

"Eat it, sister, it's really delicious."

Shen Niannian also offered advice.

Seeing Jiang Yu's satisfied expression as she ate, Chen Suisui finally put one in her mouth and chewed gently. The aroma of the pancake, combined with the garnish of scallions, assaulted her taste buds. She secretly glanced at Jiang Yu; it was definitely her mother, but something felt different. Besides, their mother never cooked.

The three of them finished the whole bowl of pancakes, letting out a satisfied burp. Shen Suisui usually did the housework, and seeing that everyone was full, she got out of bed, slipped on her shoes, and started clearing the table.

"After I finished packing, I took my younger brother back to the cowshed."

Shen Suisui was reluctant to leave the kang (heated brick bed) that had just been heated; its warmth was far more comfortable than the dilapidated cowshed. She had imagined how happy she would be to sleep on this kang, but she was also aware of her own place in the world.

Hearing her sister's words, Shen Niannian hurriedly looked for her worn-out coat. Her sister was right; their mother wouldn't let them stay here long, and being able to have a full meal was already a blessing.

Jiang Yu pressed down on the hands of the two people who were about to start working.

"It's late today, let's clean up tomorrow. Don't go to the cowshed anymore, just sleep in this room."

Jiang Yu's words had a certain intimidating effect, and the two children dared not disobey her. She also thoughtfully made the bed for them.

After blowing out the candles, Jiang Yu lay in bed and began to ponder. The family's food and household expenses weren't enough to last long; the money her original husband sent had all been spent on her lover.

Besides, she wasn't the original owner of this body, so she had no reason to spend someone else's husband's money. Therefore, she needed to earn money quickly. But right now, she was penniless; she couldn't even afford to start a small business.

Jiang Yu thought about it for a long time and decided to try her luck in town tomorrow. Even if she didn't make any money, at least she could get a sense of the current state of the world.

The wind was still howling outside. She turned over, tucked the blankets around the two children, and fell asleep.

In the darkness, Shen Suisui opened her eyes and looked at Jiang Yu by the moonlight. She didn't know what Jiang Yu was up to. Perhaps it was because the New Year was approaching and her father would be returning home soon, and she was deliberately trying to please them to cover up the news of the abuse and her seeing other men.

Jiang Yu seemed to have accepted the reality of transmigrating into the book, and when she woke up, it was already the next morning.

The sun was shining warmly today, making the room cozy. She stretched and noticed that her two children had already made their beds and were washing the dishes.

Jiang Yu had a strange feeling. Children in the 21st century are simply treasures to their parents. At their age, they're still drinking milk from bottles, let alone getting up early to do housework.

She got dressed to help, only to find the outer room already cleaned. Not only that, but the two children were even sweeping the snow in the yard.

Seeing that the two of them combined were not even as tall as the shovel, Jiang Yu quickly grabbed the tools and cleared a path as fast as possible.

She splashed cold water on her face; it was icy cold, and she wondered how people in this era could endure it.

After a busy morning, she was a little hungry. Remembering the vegetable patch she'd harvested last night, she turned and went to the back of the house. It was dark yesterday, so she hadn't looked closely. Today, when she went back and saw the patch of vegetables, Jiang Yu's eyes lit up. How could the original owner of this body, who was so lazy, have managed to take such good care of the vegetable patch?

Each type of vegetable is planted separately; you can tell at a glance that this person has put a lot of care into it.

This was a plot of land that the original owner's husband specially cleared in the backyard to prevent her from starving to death. He planted it before leaving and told the children to remember to water it and weed it.

If his family hadn't been poor back then, he would never have married the original owner of this lazy woman.

Fortunately, her child was well-behaved enough that the male protagonist turned a blind eye to her actions.

Even if I divorce her and remarry, no girl will be willing to take care of the child.

Laziness is fine, it's better than a child being without a mother.

Jiang Yu had no idea what the male lead was thinking. She huffed and puffed as she pulled a large cabbage from the ground and dug up a few potatoes, then carried them back into the house.

The two children stared at her blankly, their eyes still filled with fear.

"Sui Sui, would you like to help Mom start the fire?"

Jiang Yu peeled potatoes and asked gently. She felt that doing housework with the children would quickly bring them closer.

Shen Sui Sui nodded, took the match and lit it.

She had originally planned to make a stew for the children, but a memory flashed through her mind, seemingly hinting at something.

She went out and ran to the vegetable garden. There was a cellar in the backyard, where she pulled out the chickens that the original owner had hidden for half a month.

Goodness, they've been hiding this for ages!

Jiang Yu knew that the original owner had bought the chicken to deliver to that man the next day, but she was kicked out before even seeing him and made a fool of herself. So the chicken could only be left there.

She doesn't care about any of that; whoever finds it, it belongs to them.

The pot was filled with chicken and vegetables, filling almost halfway.

The aroma of the meat wafted farther than the pancakes from last night, and passersby couldn't help but comment on it.

"I don't know where Shen Ying's wife bought the meat again, she really doesn't skimp on her appetite at all."

"His wife is really living a life of luxury. She doesn't do any work and eats better than us. It's just a pity for Old Shen. All the money he sent went into the stomachs of his two sisters and his lover. Those three are really ruthless. They cheated on him, spent his money, and even drove his two biological children to the cowshed."

"And you're telling me? Last night I heard her dog barking loudly. My neighbor, Aunt Li, said that when she peeked through the crack in the door, she saw two children fighting with the dog for food in the snow. This woman, doesn't she fear retribution?!"

A group of women, drawn by the aroma, gathered in front of Jiang Yu's house and began discussing it animatedly.
