Chapter 35 Exploding New Year's Goods

Jiang Yu was nearly speechless with shock. She had assumed that Jiang Meier and Lu Yi had a completely innocent relationship, at most colluding to swindle money from the original owner of the body. She never imagined that the two of them were actually having an affair. No wonder Bai Na left in such a hurry; it seemed she also knew about their improper relationship.

Compared to Bai Na, her anger stemmed entirely from money.

Lu Yi cared for Jiang Meier and even took her to the woodshed to warm up. Jiang Yu couldn't see what was going on inside, so she took two steps forward and listened at the door for a while.

Inside the house, Lu Yi thoughtfully found a rag, spread it on the floor, and let Jiang Meier sit down. Using straw to shield the fat fish, her mind was filled with thoughts of having meat again tonight, or perhaps selling it to Zhang Ergou to make some money.

He gazed at Jiang Meier with deep affection, his hesitant expression piquing the woman's curiosity.

"Brother Lu Yi, are you having some trouble?"

Jiang Meier looked at him with deep affection, secretly chuckling to herself that today was the perfect time to come and help the man she liked. He would definitely look at her with new eyes, and who knows, she might even be able to put her grand promises into practice.

Seeing that the fish had taken the bait, Lu Yi felt his acting could be even more realistic. He accused Jiang Yu of being heartless while reciting the letter from home. Finally, he didn't forget to let two tears roll down his cheeks to make it even more convincing.

It's said that men don't easily shed tears, unless they're truly heartbroken. Seeing this grown man crying like this, Jiang Meier felt a pang of heartache.

"How much money do you need? Should I go home and help you raise some?"

She felt that saving lives was the priority in this situation, and everything else could be dealt with later. Jiang Yu, who was outside the door, couldn't help but roll her eyes when she heard this.

He's just making excuses about difficulties, trying to find someone else to ask for money. Everyone in this compound knows that Lu Yi goes to the city to gamble every few days, but Jiang Yu does. After all, she's read the script, even if the author only wrote the beginning.

“200”

Lu Yi spoke, startling Jiang Meier. It wasn't that she didn't want to help, but rather that such a sum of money was beyond the reach of most families. Fearing she might think he had done something shady, Lu Yi hurriedly explained:

“This money is to save my mother. She is sick and hospitalized and needs surgery. My family can’t come up with that much money all at once, so I’m worried.”

He handed over the letter, afraid the other party wouldn't believe it. Jiang Meier was even more distressed. She had originally wanted to help, and this matter was for Lu Yi's mother, her future mother-in-law; how could she stand idly by?

"Don't be impulsive, listen to me first."

Seeing that she was even more anxious than he was, Lu Yi worried that in a moment of impulse, she might steal her father's savings for his funeral. If that happened, not only would she cause a scene here, but he'd probably try to swindle the money back as much as possible.

He whispered in Jiang Meier's ear, and the two of them set their sights on Jiang Yu.

The person outside, seeing that they could no longer hear any sound, shook off the stray hairs in front of their eyes and prepared to go home, but when they turned around, they saw Bai Na looking fierce.

Luckily, she used connections; otherwise, if the two had bumped into each other, things would have been complicated. Jiang Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief and carried a pile of things home.

All the way, she kept thinking that since the two of them needed money, and the original owner's father was greedy for money, it was obvious that he was after her. Thinking of this, Jiang Yu couldn't help but shudder. It wasn't that she was being petty, but rather that one should always be wary of others!

Back home, Jiang Yu put the things on the table and eagerly tore open the envelopes. Shen Niannian stared curiously at the calendar, pointing at the numbers and babbling.

"Sister, is this how Brother Dongdong taught us to recognize numbers?"

When Dongdong came to eat osmanthus cake, he drew many symbols on the ground with a twig, which were almost identical to the numbers on this face.

Shen Suisui leaned over and glanced at it, then nodded. Her father had told her before that it was a calendar, and you could turn a page every day to count the days and know when the New Year would be.

Unfortunately, she had only seen one copy. Back then, the original owner said that keeping this thing at home was just to provoke her because she was illiterate. So, while Shen Ying was away at the army base, she simply tore it off the wall and threw it away.

The man never bought it again.

Jiang Yu didn't have time to think about the two children. She unfolded the letter, which clearly described the clothing store situation. After reading it, she concluded that the rent was 20 yuan a month, but with Zhang Tuanzhang's intervention, the rent was reduced to 200 yuan a year, with two months waived. However, it required a one-year payment upfront.

Since it's currently the Lunar New Year period, we can totally wait until after the New Year to consider it; a day or two won't make a difference.

Jiang Yu estimated that with the money she had, taking it out was definitely not a problem, but there would be renovations and materials to buy later, and the money would be far from enough. She thought that she would find a time to make Lu Yi return all the money he had taken from the original owner of the body.

After hiding the envelope, she called to the two children and asked if they were hungry. Seeing that they were staring blankly at the calendar, she began to explain, and what she said was almost identical to what Shen Suisui said.

She explained things clearly, and the children loved listening. They were so engrossed that they forgot the original owner of this body couldn't read. Thinking this, Jiang Yu secretly glanced at the two children, and seeing they hadn't noticed, breathed a sigh of relief.

I've really gotten carried away lately; I should be more careful in the future.

After lunch, Jiang Yu began preparing the meat she had bought: fried pork belly, fish, meatballs... and hopefully some more substantial dishes. Just thinking about it made her mouth water.

Making these things requires a lot of oil. Jiang Yu thought the oil could be reused, so she poured it into the pot like crazy, which shocked Shen Sui Sui, who was adding firewood to the stove.

Before my mom cooked, I always did it myself. Knowing how expensive oil is, I would only use a tiny bit each time. Fortunately, judging from my mom's recent cooking skills, there must be a reason why she used so much.

Before long, a fragrant aroma wafted from the pot. Jiang Yu called out to the two little gluttons that they could eat whenever they were hungry, as there was plenty of firewood in the stove. They picked up the fried meat and stuffed it into their mouths.

Shen Niannian felt a sharp pain in his tongue, and then lost all feeling in it. He opened his mouth and cried out, "Wah!" Jiang Yu gently pinched his nose and said affectionately, "..."

"You little glutton, did you burn your tongue eating so fast?"

Then he was told that it would be fine in a couple of days. Shen Niannian sat on the small stool, eating the meat that he couldn't taste, looking very unwilling.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, just looking at the New Year's goods my mom has prepared tells me just how much delicious food there will be. It's such a shame that my mouth feels tasteless now.

Shen Suisui looked at him, covering her mouth and chuckling. "The consequences of being greedy, aren't you regretting it now?"

A tray of fried food was laid out in front of her. Jiang Yu straightened up and pounded it a couple of times, thinking to herself, "Finally, it's over. I'm exhausted."

Dongdong, who came to play with the two siblings, was so surprised by all the delicious food in the house that his eyes almost popped out. Even the wealthiest family in the village wouldn't dare prepare this much for the New Year; Aunt Jiang Yu was truly remarkable!

"Dongdong is here, let's eat together."

Jiang Yu called to the little teacher, when an anxious voice came from outside the door:

"A fight broke out in the educated youth compound. There's a lot of blood, and people are going to die."
