Chapter 2 The Underground Passage Out of the City

Having fought for many years and suffered numerous injuries, Lin Yinan was very skilled at treating external wounds. The arrowhead was ordinary, and thankfully it had no barbs, so it could be pulled out directly.

She tore off a clean piece of her inner garment, pressed a few acupoints around the wound, quickly pulled out the arrowhead, and then pressed the wound with a strip of cloth.

Overwhelmed by the excruciating pain, Li Shulan couldn't help but let out a soft cry, "Ah..."

Lin Yinan quickly stuffed another piece of cloth into her mouth, and slapped the back of her neck with his left hand. Li Shulan's eyes rolled back and she completely fainted.

Before long, the bleeding from the wound stopped. When Li Shulan's outer garment was removed, the wound was found to be a bloody mess.

Even if the bleeding stops, the wound still needs to be disinfected; it would be great if we had disinfectant.

As Lin Yinan was thinking, a bottle of disinfectant suddenly appeared in her hand.

This is?

Disinfectant in her space!

The space is created by the organization selecting highly capable warriors and having chips implanted in their bodies in a laboratory. These chips can store various items, except for living beings. The space has a preservation function; anything placed inside will remain exactly as it was when taken out.

Did the space travel with the soul?

Lin Yinan checked and found that her stored medicines, food, seeds, weapons, and some other miscellaneous items were still there.

Because she often leads teams on missions, the medicines she needs are mostly external wound medicine, wound healing injections, anti-inflammatory drugs, disinfectant, gauze, bandages, alcohol swabs, and some basic medicines.

Several boxes of energy bars, a small amount of rice and flour that she redeemed with mission points, and grain seeds she collected along the way.

They had ample weapons and ammunition, but unfortunately, their mission ended prematurely. They were surrounded by zombies as soon as they arrived at the mission location and were killed. They had three submachine guns, two belonging to Yu Xiaojia and another teammate, dozens of grenades, arrows, daggers, and hundreds of incendiary bombs.

After cleaning and bandaging Li Shulan's wound, Lin Yinan gave her an injection to help it heal and fed her an anti-inflammatory pill.

The Hu people rampaged through the city, burning, killing, and looting. Cries for mercy, screams, the weeping of women and children, and the unbridled laughter of the Hu people echoed everywhere.

The entire city of Pingcheng was shrouded in smoke, and Lin Yinan could tell from the sound that it was a tragic scene of hell on earth.

Suddenly, a rustling sound of footsteps came from the alley, growing louder as it approached.

Lin Yinan gripped the dagger tightly in her hand, her face tense as she stared intently at the alley entrance.

The group was led by an elderly couple, followed by four young people. Two of the men were carrying a five- or six-year-old child in their arms, and each of them had a large package on their backs. They looked like a family.

Seeing Lin Yinan holding a knife and standing by the collapsed wall with a murderous look on his face, they were all frightened and stopped in their tracks.

"Young lady, why are you here alone?" The old man leading the group was slightly overweight and looked like a businessman. His face was filled with fear and unease, and a wary glint flashed in his shrewd eyes.

Lin Yinan narrowed her eyes, her gaze sharp, and quickly sized up the newcomers. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"

The Hu people on the street searched everywhere for the people hiding in the shadows, and the family quickly took refuge inside the collapsed wall on one side.

The old man wiped the sweat from his brow and said, "There's a tunnel here that leads out of the city. Let's leave now. The city is full of barbarians; it's too dangerous!"

"Father, the entrance marked on the map is right here," the older man said to the old man after taking out the map and looking at it.

"Find it quickly!" the old man urged.

The two young men placed the child in the woman's arms and quickly found a large, intact stone blocking the entrance.

So the two of them turned around and bent down to lift it.

The woman next to the old man had sharp eyes. While looking around, she spotted Li Shulan lying unconscious on the ground. "Oh! There's someone there."

“That’s my mother, she’s injured,” Lin Yinan said, glancing at her and pursing her lips.

At this moment, the two young men had already moved the large stone slab aside, revealing a dark hole.

The older man took out a tinderbox from his pocket, blew on it, and jumped in first, followed by two women carrying children.

After helping the old woman inside, the old man turned to Lin Yinan and said, "Young lady, it's too dangerous for you to stay in the city. Why don't you come with us?"

Without saying a word, Lin Yinan carried the still unconscious Li Shulan on his back, walked to the cave entrance, and carefully crawled inside.

The man responsible for covering the rear cleaned up the traces around the cave entrance and pulled over a large stone slab to cover the entrance again.

The entrance to the cave is sloping downwards, and a cool breeze blows out from inside.

Lin Yinan followed behind the group for about ten minutes, when they could vaguely see the light.

The exit was cleverly designed, located under a large rock, next to which was a lush thicket of bushes, about 100 meters away from the city wall. No one would have guessed that there would be a tunnel leading directly from the city wall.

Seeing Lin Yinan deep in thought as he looked at the tunnel, the old man said in a deep voice, "This tunnel was dug by my great-grandfathers over more than ten years after they moved to Pingcheng. I never thought it would come in handy at such a critical moment."

The older man stepped forward and urged, "Father, it's getting late, let's go."

"Young lady, you and your child are both orphans. Come with us on the journey, so we can look after each other." The old woman saw that Lin Yinan had been carrying Li Shulan for so long without being out of breath, and a calculating glint flashed in her eyes.

"No, I left a mark on the road. My two brothers will find their way here. You should go first." Lin Yinan saw the scheming in the old woman's eyes, his gaze flickered slightly, and he gave her a cold look.

"You..." The old woman tried to grab her arm, but Lin Yinan skillfully avoided it.

The old man could tell that Lin Yinan was a skilled fighter, and since they had only met by chance, he didn't want to cause trouble for her. He grabbed his wife and said, "Alright, since you're waiting for someone, we'll be going now."

After he finished speaking, he winked at his two sons, grabbed his wife, and led the family hurriedly into the mountains.

“Old man, why are you holding my hand? We left in a hurry and didn’t pack up a lot of money and valuables. That girl is pretty and all alone. We might be able to get a good price if we take her to Sword City and resell her.”

"You're blinded by greed. That young girl is not someone we can afford to mess with," the old man said.

Why?

"She looks to be no more than fourteen or fifteen years old. She was carrying someone on her back, and she walked steadily without even panting. It's clear she's a trained fighter."

...

Lin Yinan was a martial artist with sharp ears and eyes, so she naturally heard what the old man's family was saying. She withdrew her gaze, her eyes cold, and turned to hide in the denser thicket of thorns on the hillside with Li Shulan on her back.

They found a spacious spot in the thicket of thorns and put Li Shulan down. From this spot, they could see the official road leading to the city gate.

Lin Yinan's stomach was rumbling loudly. She hadn't eaten for almost a day and was starving.

She took out an energy bar from her spatial storage. This stuff is the most filling; one bar can keep you full for a day, making it very convenient for them to carry on missions.
