After eating dessert in the kitchen, they watered the vegetable garden with the last rays of sunlight and then circled the rabbit. Before Lu Yu and Zhao Fang returned, they had already fed the chickens, ducks, and geese. Now they were just waiting for Lu Yunfeng to come back so they could eat.
Lu Yu continued sewing clothes, this time for Xiao Si's shoes. Xiao Si couldn't stand up and walk yet, but he was growing well now, with strong limbs and could crawl very fast. It was only a matter of time before he stood up and walked, so she had to prepare for it as soon as possible.
Lu Yan circled around Qin Xiaozhou, calling her "sister-in-law" this and "sister-in-law" that.
The sun had already set, but the moon hadn't come out yet. It was pitch black. Everyone in the village had gone home to eat and wash up, and it was hard to see anyone outside. There was still no sign of Lu Yunfeng. Wang Lan ran back and forth at the entrance of Qingzhugou several times, and Zhao Fang couldn't sit still either, constantly looking towards the door.
Perhaps influenced by this emotion, Qin Xiaozhou also became worried. "Eryun, grab the machete, let's go look for it together."
Zhao Fang looked anxious but didn't stop him. "Be careful. It's getting dark. Why don't you go to the village and find a few people to go with you?"
"Let's go find it first, Grandma, don't worry." Qin Xiaozhou found a piece of firewood with pine resin, lit it, stuck it into a bamboo pole, and carried it towards Qingzhugou. The bamboo forests on both sides of Qingzhugou blocked out the only starlight. The two walked more than a hundred meters and kept calling out as they went. If it weren't for the two of them encouraging each other, Qin Xiaozhou wouldn't have dared to come at this time. If a wild animal suddenly jumped out of the forest, it would be deadly.
Qin Xiaozhou walked almost to the end but still couldn't see Lu Yunfeng. Her heart was pounding. If she continued up the hillside, she would reach the place where she had encountered the wild boar last time. She had heard that not far beyond this pass was Wild Boar Pool. Who knew if wild animals would come to drink water around the pool under the cover of night?
Lu Yunxing hesitated for a moment, but still took the lead in climbing up. That was his older brother, and he had to go find him no matter how dangerous it was.
Qin Xiaozhou wiped her face and followed Lu Yunxing up the mountain. In some places, the bamboo was so dense that she couldn't keep up, but she didn't dare to be alone. The two of them climbed out of the bamboo gully and reached the mountain pass. This was the farthest Qin Xiaozhou had ever been in the mountains, more than three kilometers away from the Lu family's house. Standing here and shouting, she could feel the distance, but it was also dangerous. "How far is it from where you dug the traps?"
Chen then pointed directly ahead, saying, "There."
It's separated by a ravine, and I estimate it's still more than a kilometer away.
"Damn it!" Qin Xiaozhou cursed inwardly. Lu Yunfeng's trap wasn't meant to prevent prey from going to the village; he wanted to hunt and sell the prey for money. "Shout out a couple of times."
The mountains were densely forested with tall trees and streams, so the sound was blocked and couldn't travel far. The two could only try their luck at the location of the trap.
Lu Yunxing walked and shouted as he went. He walked for about fifteen or sixteen minutes and only covered more than 500 meters. The dead branches and decaying leaves in the woods blocked the way. It was really difficult to walk because of the ups and downs.
There was a faint echo from the other side of the mountain, which reassured the two. They quickened their pace and walked for another twenty minutes or so. The sounds could be heard in the mountains, but the winding paths and gullies made it very troublesome to take detours.
Even though she suspected there was prey, Xu Zhi Qiu was still startled when she saw it. "A tiger?!?"
The tiger had a large bamboo stick stuck in its eye, blood was flowing all over the ground, and it had collapsed in the trap, barely breathing. The younger brother roared. After all, it was a tiger, and even though it was injured, it was still big and fierce. The trap was deep, and it wouldn't be easy to get it out.
Lu Yunfeng didn't stay idle all day. A simple wooden ladder was already placed next to the trap. When he saw the two of them, he didn't waste any words. He pulled the vine at the end of the bamboo pole, pulled the pole over, and pulled it out. Blood gushed out. He then quickly and accurately stuck the pole into the old man's eye. Only when the tiger completely fell down did he put the ladder down.
Lu Yunfeng went down first to tie the tiger's mouth, being careful that it wasn't completely dead and might wake up and bite people halfway through. Then he tied its limbs. The three of them used the leverage principle with the help of wood to lift the tiger out of the trap.
Just like we did with the wild boar last time, carry it back.
This tiger was much heavier than that half-grown wild boar. Qin Xiaozhou had to rest every hundred meters or so, and he couldn't drag it along, for fear of injuring the tiger skin and making it worthless. He only wanted to get a complete tiger skin, as it was a valuable item.
The smell of blood was strong, and fearing it would attract other wild animals at night, the three of them could only walk as fast as they could. Lu Yunxing also went to Qin Xiaozhou's side to carry the tiger. The two of them walked in front and Lu Yunfeng followed behind. The three of them walked quickly. When they were going down the mountain, Lu Yunxing missed a step on the dead branches and leaves and fell down. Half of a tiger hit his foot, and he hissed and gasped in pain.
Lu Yunfeng put down the stick and ran over to check. Fortunately, the leaves were thick and the soil was soft, so Lu Yunxing was not seriously injured. He only had two small cuts on his face from the branches, from which blood seeped out.
As they descended the mountain, their center of gravity shifted forward. Qin Xiaozhou moved to the back, Lu Yunfeng walked in front, and Lu Yunxing carried the torch for illumination. Despite their hurried pace, the approximately five-kilometer journey still took them three hours to reach the duck pen in Qingzhugou. The three of them collapsed heavily to the ground.
The geese in the duck pen started honking incessantly upon hearing the sound.
Lu Yunxing ran to tell his family, but before he had gone far, Wang Lan and Lu Yu came over as soon as they heard the goose calling. "You're finally back! You scared us to death! You're not allowed to go there again."
As he walked over to them, he saw the large orange tiger by the firelight and almost fainted from fright. It took him a while to recover. "What? How did you manage to kill that big yellow worm? How far did you run off to! Oh dear, why are you so stubborn? You won't listen to me no matter what I say."
"Alright, Grandma, now is not the time to talk about this." Lu Yunfeng was very tired. He had only eaten two steamed buns for lunch and drank water from the mountain stream. Now he was both hungry and thirsty. Moreover, this tiger was a good thing, but he didn't know if the county town was buying it. If it couldn't be sold in the county town, he would have to go to Wanzhou Prefecture. Without money in his pocket, nothing else mattered. The next thing was the most important thing.
