Chapter 33 The Big Tiger

It was already past midnight, and Lu Yunfeng didn't want his family to go through the trouble of cooking, so he didn't light a fire to cook. He just asked Wang Lan to rent a boat from the ferryman in the village, since waterway was faster than land route.

Qin Xiaozhou lit the fire in the stove, heated the milk, put it into a bamboo tube, and took a few pieces of mung bean cake and two rolled-up towels to Qingzhugou.

Wang Lan said she needed to rent a boat to go to the city for medical treatment. The ferryman knew that the Lu family had suffered many misfortunes and illnesses in the past two years, so he didn't doubt it. He had heard from his boat trips that the eldest son of the Lu family seemed to have gone to the mountains again. Coming to find a boat in the middle of the night, he thought something might have really happened.

The ferryman was delighted to hear that he would be paid thirty coins a day, for an unknown number of days, and that he wouldn't have to go with him. A grown man couldn't earn that much even carrying heavy loads at the dock. He could rent out the boat and get thirty coins without lifting a finger—what a great deal! However, since it was his livelihood, he still gave him a few instructions: "You can't damage this boat. If you do, I'll make you pay for it."

After getting permission, Wang Lan hurried home. Lu Yunfeng was eating mung bean cake and drinking milk. The warm milk soothed his internal organs and made him feel refreshed. However, he had never seen this cylindrical thing before. It tasted sweet and soft, but he couldn't eat more than two bites. He didn't like sweet things, so he gave it to Eryun.

Lu Yunxing was also exhausted after a long night, and besides, he loved sweets the most. Knowing that his older brother didn't like them, he stuffed a few bites into his mouth, feeling completely satisfied. His sister-in-law's cooking was simply perfect for their family. He felt that if this continued, his taste buds would become too picky.

Under the moonlight, Qin Xiaozhou and the three Lu brothers quietly carried the tiger to the boat at the village entrance.

The village dogs barked at the noise, but no one shouted. So he scolded the dogs a few times from his bed, then turned over and went back to sleep.

Qin Xiaozhou knew how to row a boat. She grew up by a lake not far from the river, where it was easier to get around by boat, so she also learned to row. Lu Yunfeng temporarily followed her to learn.

Wang Lan and Lu Yu stood at the ferry, covering the tiger with wild vegetables. "The three of you should all go, so you can look after each other. Be careful on the road, and don't trust others too easily, lest you be deceived."

Who knows where this tiger will be sold? If it really goes all the way to the prefectural city to find a buyer, it will take three to five days to get back. No one in the family has ever traveled that far.

The three of them rowed their boat all the way to the county town before dawn. Fortunately, the waterway to the dock was clear, but they had to be questioned at the checkpoint.
