Chapter 6: The Mourning Matchmaker

The next day, Jiang Dajin took out the only two eggs left from the chicken coop. Eugene Hua looked distressed, "One egg is enough! We haven't even reached an agreement yet, why are you asking for two?"

Jiang Dajin ignored the stingy woman and went straight to the matchmaker's house in the village with two eggs in his pocket.

In Jiangjia Village, there are two famous matchmakers. One is the "Happy Matchmaker," and many nearby villages love to go to her for weddings. Because of the weddings she handles, the families there all live a happy and prosperous life.

The other, the "funeral matchmaker," who was the opposite of her, also handled a lot of things. But she focused on matters that were not openly discussed, such as finding new couples for good luck, arranging ghost marriages, and buying and selling boys and girls.

Those who are serious about getting married usually go to a matchmaker to arrange the marriage. However, those with bad intentions secretly go to a matchmaker to arrange the marriage.

Their reputations are good and bad, and they are in the south and the north respectively, but when it comes to making money, the matchmaker earns more and gets a lot of money as a middleman.

Jiang Dajin walked to the door of her house, looked up at the solid earth wall with envy in his eyes.

They are both earthen walls, but can a house made by randomly ramming the mud be the same as a house made by first making mud molds and then building them?

When the wind blows, the wall of the house is about to collapse.

He walked into the yard and called out, "Seventh Aunt, are you home?"

Grandma Qi poked her head out from the main room, and the two black eyes on her shriveled face rolled around, which scared him and almost crushed the egg in his hand.

He smiled awkwardly, "Seventh Aunt, I came to ask you for help."

Grandma Qi gestured to him to close the gate and go into the house to talk.

"Are you here for your niece?"

What could an old woman like her do? It was nothing more than things that couldn't be brought to the table.

Their eldest son is 17 years old this year, so he must also go through a normal matchmaking process. The remaining son and daughter are still young. The only one who can make a fuss is the orphan daughter left by their younger brother who died young.

Jiang Dajin nodded, with a lewd and flattering smile on his face, "Please help me find a good marriage."

Grandma Qi had a half-smile on her face, and the wrinkled skin on her face looked very creepy. The so-called good marriage means a high betrothal gift.

"No other requests?"

"My niece has been unlucky with her parents since she was young, and with her grandparents since she grew up. It's hard for her to live alone. Find her a good marriage and she can live a good life. I have no special requirements."

If you only mention the marriage but not the dowry, then I guess there is none.

"Have you thought it through carefully? Once I get the hang of this matter and we can make a deal, there will be no room for regret. If you delay the things inside, those people will not be easy to deal with." Grandma Qi warned.

Jiang Dajin was stared at by her dark eyes, and felt a lump on his back. He then gritted his teeth and replied, "I've thought it over. Please help me, Mrs. Qi."

Grandma Qi nodded. Her children didn't dare get too close to her because of what she did. She had no choice but to stand up and slowly walk into the room. She took out a pen and a small piece of paper and asked Jiang Dajin to dictate the child's birth date.

Qi Po can't read, but after doing this many times, she has developed her own unique way of memorizing.

She leaned in to look at the birth chart. She was born an orphan, but her future destiny was unclear.

Unlucky relatives? It all depends on how you phrase it. She'd find a family looking for a happy marriage, give them their birth date and eight characters, and just say they were strong enough to handle it. Those looking for a happy marriage would love this; it would save them a lot of trouble.

Jiang Dajin only brought two eggs, which of course were not expenses, but just an opening fee. The money Qi Po wanted was 20% of the betrothal gift.

He felt a little sad, but if he went to look for it himself, he estimated that he would not be able to find even 80% of it.

After he entrusted the matter to Qi Po, he went home.

Jiang Yue didn't know about this. She was weeding at the foot of the mountain. With Eugene Hua watching at home, she couldn't even take a nap.

"Xiaoyue!"

She was dozing off against the roots of a tree when she heard a small cry.

After a while, the man came running up.

She recalled from her memory that this person seemed to be the youngest daughter of the village chief, two years younger than she was. Xiao Jiangyue had met her while looking for wild vegetables together, and she was one of her few friends.

"Pingya, why are you here?"

It hasn't rained recently, and there are no wild vegetables or mushrooms. The village chief's house is at the entrance of the village, so Pingya won't easily come to the back mountain.

Pingya's face turned pale. She wanted to pull Jiang Yue's hand, but she inadvertently dodged it.

She didn't care and said hurriedly, "Xiaoyue, your uncle has gone to find a funeral matchmaker! You should think of a way quickly and don't let them sell you out!"

She went to the river to wash clothes today and happened to see Uncle Jin coming out of the matchmaker's house. She didn't even care about her clothes and hurried to tell her.

Although Xiaoyue is a rather introverted person and doesn't like to interact with others, she still regards Xiaoyue as a friend and cannot bear to see her friend thrown into the fire pit.

Jiang Yue frowned. She had also heard about the funeral matchmaker.

If she really wanted to be sold, Jiang Yue would definitely kill the entire family before getting married.

Anyway, he's already lost his life.

She was calm in her heart, pretending to be worried, her eyes reddened, "I have lived in my uncle's house since I was a child, and my food, clothing and expenses are all provided by them. I have no other choice..."

Pingya felt very distressed, but she was young and of low generation, so she didn't know how she could help.

She had no choice but to go home and discuss the matter with her parents.

When the village chief heard this, his brows furrowed so much that he could kill a fly.

Pingya urged them to go and seek justice for Xiaoyue.

The village chief's wife patted her shoulder. She was young and naive. "They haven't done it yet. How can you stop them? Besides, even if they have done it, what reason do we have to stop them?"

Pingya wanted to argue, but her mother sighed again, "These days, selling children is normal. Even the government can't stop it. How can you ask your father, a village chief, to uphold justice? Jiang Dajin and Eugene Hua are legitimate uncles and aunts who raised her for three years. They can make the decision."

Besides, if she insists that it's just a normal marriage, what can you do? This kind of thing will only get her scolded at most, and it won't affect her family's food and drink."

The village head's wife looked at her little daughter's innocent appearance and broke down the problem into pieces. No matter how pitiful Jiang Yue was, to put it bluntly, the village head and the village head couldn't do anything about it.

The village chief said with a sullen face, "I can only keep an eye on him and prevent him from going too far."

But for the rest, there is really no way.

Pingya's eyes were filled with tears. She could understand what her parents said, that even a judge could not judge family affairs.

Jiang Yue didn't know that a friend wanted to seek justice for her. She took out two white flour buns and an egg from the space, wrapped them with some vegetable leaves she picked, avoided everyone's sight, and went to the matchmaker's house.
