Chapter 8: Finding Medicinal Herbs

Jiang Yue walked through the village and many people greeted her.

She raised her eyebrows, as if her reputation was better recently than before.

But apart from annoying Eugene Hua's family, it doesn't seem to be of much use.

She walked all the way to Uncle Jiang's house. The fence around the yard was so low that she could see inside. Seeing no one around, she stepped over the fence and walked quickly back to her house.

It was a hot afternoon, and Jiang Dajin had disappeared. You Jinhua must have been sleeping with her little daughter. Jiang Dagui and Jiang Erfu had gone out to hang out with their friends, doing nothing all day.

There was no proper bed in the room, but a bed made of several thin long wooden boards. Jiang Yue relied on her memory and walked to the foot of the bed, stepping on it as she went.

Suddenly, I stepped on an unusual place. The soil was soft and darker than the surrounding area. It was obvious that it had been dug by someone.

The house is small, and Xiao Jiangyue has lived there for so many years that the soil in other places has been compacted by footsteps.

The chicken coop room was completely exposed, and there were no tools to be found. Jiang Yue started digging directly, but fortunately, little Jiang Yue was not hiding very deep.

After a while, she dug out a tattered little cloth bag, the stitching on it was rough, but it barely held a package.

When he opened it, inside was all of Xiao Jiangyue's property - a total of thirty copper coins.

This was given to the little girl when her grandparents were still alive, saying that she should save some money.

It is said that this is the most generous among all the parents in Jiangjia Village. No other family would give a few dozen coins to an unmarried girl.

Even when she got married, there were only two hundred coins in her dowry.

Jiang Yue rolled her eyes. These thirty cents were not enough for a meal at a restaurant.

Little Jiangyue spent her days doing chores and had no means of earning money, relying solely on the little her parents managed to squeeze out. Even if she had some skills, she wouldn't dare show them, fearing they'd be seen as a money-making machine.

The money earned will not go into her pocket, otherwise we will all be poor together.

clever.

The door of this small house was just a decoration, and Eugene would come in from time to time to look through things.

After so many years, Xiao Jiangyue was able to hide the thirty cents so carefully and not have them stolen. It's quite a feat.

These thirty coins were a drop in the bucket, of no use to her. But she didn't know when she would leave this place, so she couldn't leave them to Eugene. She'd better hide them in her space.

She lay on the straw mat and looked out the window at the mountains.

The altitude here is not high, but the trees on the mountain are lush and green.

Jiangjia Village is nestled against a mountain, and villagers occasionally venture into the mountains to dig for wild vegetables, mushrooms, and firewood. But everyone lives a comfortable life, and no one dares venture into the deep mountains to risk their lives for money.

I don't know who spread the rumor that there were ferocious beasts on this mountain, and everyone was so scared that they didn't dare to go in.

Jiang Yue calculated that she had consumed a lot of steamed buns during this period, and the good things in the space had to be kept for life, and could not be sold at this time.

Besides, it's too dangerous for a little girl to sell food alone.

The fruit seeds were sown into the ground and seedlings began to sprout, but it would take about a year before they bore fruit.

If I plant vegetables, it will take at least a month. By then, my mother-in-law won’t know how many cups of tea she has poured...

How about going into the mountains? The soil is fertile, the air is fresh, and there's plenty of spiritual energy where you might find some good stuff.

The next day, she went into the mountains again with her backpack.

Perhaps because the couple felt guilty about the bad things they had done behind her back, Eugene Hua rarely failed to scold her early in the morning, trying to bring bad luck upon her. Although the old man's face was just as droopy, at least he didn't bother her ears.

When we walked to the foot of the mountain, the morning fog was thick and few people came to chop firewood.

Jiang Yue pulled out a rope and tied her sleeves and trouser legs tightly to prevent snakes or other insects from getting in. She then applied some mint juice to her body and headed deep into the mountains.

Medicines were expensive in ancient times, but common herbs still needed to be processed. She didn't have the skills or the space, so she had to try to find some that didn't require processing.

The temperature in the mountains is low and birds are singing constantly.

She had good eyesight and quickly scanned the nearby plants. As she walked, the feeling of being spied on came back!

Jiang Yue's face was cold. He pretended to take out the long sword from the backpack, but actually he took it out from the space.

He turned quickly, "Who's following us? Come out!"

But there was still no movement. She became a little impatient and picked up a stone to throw at him.

Suddenly, from behind the tangled branches, a pair of amber eyes appeared. Pointed ears and long, white-gray fur. She tilted her head and saw new, but noticeably thinner, fur growing on her hind legs...

It's the wild wolf.

Jiang Yue's grip on the knife tightened. Wolves are very sensitive to smells, so they probably remembered her.

I just don’t know if this memory is a good one.

Wolves use scent to find their prey, so they remember grudges. But do they remember favors?

Jiang Yue lowered her eyes and looked at her thin wrist. If it were to pounce on her, her current weak body would be vulnerable.

The man and the wolf looked at each other across the bushes, motionless, like two sculptures.

The wolf's fangs were still scary, but its fur didn't stand up today.

After five minutes, Jiang Yue saw that it had no intention of attacking and was no longer roaring like when they first met, so she felt relieved.

We should remember her kindness.

She thought for a moment, took out a large meat bun, placed it on the ground, and slowly backed away from it. When she was about ten meters away, she turned and ran.

I'm being nice to you, you won't be ungrateful and want to eat me, right?

After the others had left, the wolf emerged from the bushes and sniffed something on the ground. It looked like food. With a flick of its tongue, it took the food into its mouth. Its sharp teeth chewed it twice before swallowing it whole.

It seems quite delicious.

Jiang Yue walked away quickly, looked back and saw that the wolf was not following her, so she breathed a sigh of relief.

The ground under her feet was slippery and she accidentally fell.

“Ouch—”

This time it wasn't her fragile waist that was injured, but her butt.

This shriveled butt has little meat to protect it, and my tailbone hurts a lot.

The pain made her want to curse her father.

She gently brushed off the dirt on her body, and inadvertently saw a familiar plant next to where she fell.

Green leaves with slightly serrated edges and a cluster of small red flowers on top.

She was a little excited.

The soil was soft, so she simply broke off a branch and used it as a tool.

She dug and dug, and finally dug out a small ginseng!

She pulled it out carefully, breaking some tiny roots, but without any tools, being able to dig it out like this was fine and not a big problem.

Not knowing the species of ginseng, she picked it up and compared it from left to right and front to back. Why didn't it grow into a human shape?

If she bends it gently, will the doctor see through it?
