He was lucky. Just today, some merchants from the grassland brought some sheep to exchange for things.
Jiang Nian went downstairs. There were not many people left in the lobby. Most of them had left. Only a few merchants had come in to refill their tea.
Three men were sitting in the lobby eating and chatting, and they had quite a big appetite.
Jiang Nian looked out and saw two dozen sheep on a cart pulled by two horses, with a lone horse nearby. He walked over and startled the three of them.
"What are you doing?"
Jiang Nian clasped his hands together and said, "Brothers, I'm from the Central Plains and I'm staying here today. I see you've brought a lot of sheep with you. Do you have any that haven't been castrated yet? Could you sell me a few?"
The man sitting in the middle looked him up and down, asked him to sit down, and then asked cautiously, "Uncastrated sheep are all lambs and won't be sold. Do you buy lambs specifically to raise and sell?"
"It just happened to happen. My wife is pregnant, and she loves eating mutton, so I wanted to buy some uncastrated lamb and raise some in the Central Plains just for our family."
Jiang Nian couldn't bring himself to say that his own child wanted to drink goat's milk; he always felt awkward about it.
"It's said that the mutton raised on the grassland is tender, has little mutton smell, and is very delicious."
"Hahahahahahaha, you're right, the sheep we raise are delicious!"
It was hard to believe that such a cold and hard man could actually love his wife so much. The others became less wary of him.
"Are you from the Central Plains? The Central Plains is rich in products!"
"Exactly. But I left in a hurry and didn't take any goods with me. I wonder if I can use the money to buy sheep?"
No goods? The three of them looked disappointed, their surprise gone.
