Chapter 236 Hunting for the Cubs

In the darkness, Jiang Nian was carrying a bulging bag on his back. If anyone was traveling at night, they would definitely be frightened. No one knew where such a huge beast came from, and it was so fast that only a shadow remained.

Jiang Nian ran all the way and reached Tianxia Mountain in just half the night.

But he had been in the mountains before, and there was no trace of sheep in the front mountain. When he entered the back mountain, he did not see a single strand of wool.

He jumped onto a big rock, raised his wolf head, and let out a deep wolf howl that seemed to shake the entire mountain range.

The rabbits, pheasants, and other wild animals hiding in the mountains were so frightened that they trembled and dared not come out of their holes. The people digging stones in the mountains were also frightened and dared not dig anymore, for fear of disturbing the wild animals in the mountains.

Jiang Nian ate up dozens of buns in his bag in one day.

The weather was hot and it was difficult to store much food, so Jiang Yue didn't pack too much. He could hunt wild animals to fill his stomach.

After not hunting for a long time, Jiang Nian's wild nature was aroused again. His thick tongue licked the blood on his sharp fangs. He peeled the fur of his prey in the mountains and devoured the meat whole.

As for the furs, he tied them together and carried them on his back.

He ran across several hills but saw no ewes. He did see two rams, but they were old and useless, so he simply skinned them and ate the meat, chewing up even the bones and swallowing them.

Jiang Nian stood on the top of the mountain and looked out into the distance. At his speed, it would probably take him half a month to reach the grassland. But if he brought the sheep back to the city, that would take too long...

He lowered his eyes and thought quietly for a while, and finally decided that he should continue walking northwest at a faster pace.

He was always worried about Jiang Yue. Even though there were other people protecting her, he could never feel as at ease as if he was protecting her himself.

On the way to the northwest, Jiang Nian climbed several mountains of different sizes, and the fur on his back accumulated more and more.

As the weather grew hotter, he saw fewer and fewer mountains and forests, and more and more plains. He wondered if this was the grassland and desert Jiang Yue had mentioned.

He changed back into human form and took a bath in a small river that only covered his calves. He washed away the sweat and the clear water flowed over his strong body.

He had not shaved the beard on his chin, and with his tall and strong body and sharp eyes, people on the street did not dare to provoke him easily.

Jiang Nian, carrying a large pile of furs, walked into a two-story inn on the side of the road.

There were merchants passing by the inn, enjoying their meals and tea. The once bustling lobby suddenly became quiet upon seeing such a ferocious man appear.

The waiter came over timidly, trying hard to smile, "Sir, are you here to eat or stay?"

The world is not peaceful these days, and if their inn didn't have someone to protect them, they wouldn't dare to open it in such a crowded area. But even so, if they encounter unreasonable guests, they have to serve them well to avoid suffering.

Jiang Nian said with a cold expression, "How much is the hotel and meal?"

"Reply, guest, a steamed bun is ten cents, a vegetable bun is twelve cents, a meat bun is fifteen cents, a pot of tea is eight cents, and a bowl of plain noodles is fifteen cents. If you're staying in a hotel, a room in an upper room is fifty cents a night, an ordinary room is thirty cents a night, and a large bunk bed is ten cents a night..."

All in all, eating is much more expensive than accommodation.

Jiang Nian took out a small silver coin, about one or two taels, and said, "A pot of tea, a bowl of noodles, ten steamed buns, ten meat buns, and a room in the upper room."

The waiter didn't expect this unkempt-looking man to be so generous. He quickly took the money with a smile and said, "Okay, please go upstairs."

This one silver coin is certainly too much, but it is noon now and dinner has to be eaten, so it is almost enough.

Jiang Nian followed the waiter upstairs and into the room. The so-called upper room was a slightly larger room with a bed and a set of tables and chairs.

Jiang Nian put down the fur on his back, and there was a "dong" sound. The waiter was amazed. Seeing this guest walking so easily, he thought he was very light, but he turned out to be a strong man.

Jiang Nian asked the waiter, "Are there any merchants here buying or selling cattle or sheep?"

He had just seen some people in the lobby who also had beards, were tall and strong, had hooked noses, thick lips, and deep eye sockets, and did not look like the ordinary people in their area.

The waiter replied, "It's mostly in the fall. Plus, the weather's bad, so business is down now, but it's not completely gone. There are more sheep than cattle. Are you looking to trade?"

After autumn? That would take another two or three months, and the baby would be due by then, so he couldn't leave home.

Jiang Nian stuffed a string of copper coins into the shop assistant's hand and said, "I want to buy some. I wonder what they use to trade?"

The waiter rubbed the copper coins in his hand, and the corners of his mouth widened, his smile becoming much more sincere.

"They mostly want to exchange for food, salt, tea, cloth, and the like. Items that aren't produced there are most welcome. Silver is fine, but it won't be as easy to exchange as the things I mentioned, and it might be quite a bit more expensive."

Jiang Nian nodded. He came here alone and it was impossible for him to bring those things with him.

"Well, if there are any merchants who want to buy or sell cattle, sheep, or mules, please let me know."

"Okay!"

The waiter had only mentioned it casually; it wasn't a big deal. There were many people doing business in their inn, so the owner wouldn't mind him taking a kickback.

The food and tea Jiang Nian ordered were quickly served. He picked up a yellow and white flour bun, took a bite, but couldn't see the filling. He took another bite, but the filling was gone, and there was no taste in his mouth...

After eating and drinking, Jiang Nian was only 70% full, with very little oil or water. He lay down on the bed and took a nap. When it was getting dark, he was about to go downstairs to order food when the waiter came up to tell him.
