Chapter 21 Monster Rumors

The village chief's wife herself felt a little embarrassed. "This morning, I don't know where the rumor came from, saying there's a monster in your house with glowing eyes. So, we had no choice but to come over and take a look, and also to clear your name."

Jiang Yue lowered her eyes, not knowing what she was thinking. After a while, she said, "Okay, let's go inside and take a closer look."

They first entered the rabbit and pheasant house, which now housed four rabbits and two pheasants. These were now in good spirits, having recovered. To prevent them from digging holes or biting each other, Jiang Yue had caged them all.

"Oh my, you actually have rabbits and pheasants at home!"

"This looks fat, it must be delicious!"

The two aunts who followed were drooling, even craving the meat. Looking at their glowing eyes, it would be almost a given that they were monsters. Jiang Yue sneered.

The village chief's wife felt embarrassed, so she pulled one of them into the main house, which was where Jiang Yue lived.

Just like the previous one, the small room was in full view, and there was no one else except Jiang Nian sitting on the bed.

The village chief and his wife had seen Jiang Nian before, so they were not very scared now.

But it was the first time for the two aunts to see him. Sitting on the bed, he didn't look that scary, but his expression was rather serious. They also asked why he didn't say hello or smile.

Jiang Yue was in a bad mood and ignored them. She only said to the village head and his wife, "My house is small, and I can see there are no monsters. Maybe others saw it wrongly and saw a rabbit. Rabbits have different eyes than ordinary people."

The village chief nodded. He didn't believe in such nonsense in the first place, but he was forced to find someone to come and testify.

"I believe you. We'll clear up the rumors when we get back."

Jiang Yue watched Jiang Nian's face grow paler and paler, feeling impatient. "Thank you, village chief and all the aunts. Brother Nian just came back from hunting in the mountains and is a little tired. I wanted him to rest for a while."

The village chief and his wife noticed that Jiang Nian's expression was different from before, and being a hunter was indeed hard-working.

"Okay, I won't bother you anymore. If you have any difficulties, come to us for help."

When the two aunts were leaving, they were still staring at the house where rabbits and pheasants were raised, looking back every few steps, and were forcibly pulled away by the village head's wife.

After the people left, Jiang Yue closed the door and took off Jiang Nian's clothes so that he could transform back into a wolf and rest.

She sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Jiang Nian's deep sleeping face. She thought, this place is too secretive, there are no doors, windows or walls, anyone can see it clearly at a glance.

It’s time to go into the city early to look at houses.

When the village chief and his group returned from the foot of the mountain, many people were blocking the road, asking anxiously, "What's going on? Village chief, is there really a monster?"

"What does that monster look like?"

"Oh my God! Does that monster eat people?"

"This is too dangerous! How about we drive them out of the village?"

The village chief glared at Eugene Hua who was standing in front, and she lowered her head as if it was not her who had just spoken.

Everyone was talking at once, and the village chief couldn't get a word in. He yelled, "Stop arguing!"

After everyone calmed down, he said, "We've checked, there's no monster! There's only a rabbit! Who knows if the person who spread the rumor mistook the rabbit for a monster? Everyone, go away!"

"Huh? No monsters?"

"If you say no, then it's no! Then, was the first person who said that so flustered that he couldn't see clearly?"

The village chief's wife was also very annoyed, so she took her husband and went home. There was no benefit in being the village chief, only a lot of trouble.

When they said there were no monsters, some people dispersed. The rest of the people lost their fear and started gossiping again, "Why is there a rabbit in their house?"

"Isn't it said that man is a great hunter?"

The two aunts who went to check it out with me said with great enthusiasm, "You don't know, there are four rabbits in total, all fat! I see their bellies are bulging, maybe they're pregnant. Rabbits are very fertile! They can have a litter every few months, with seven or eight babies in each litter! If you could give me a couple, that would be more than enough. Then I'd have endless rabbit meat to eat!"

"Not only rabbits, but also two pheasants, fatter than my hens!"

"It's great to be a hunter. I can eat meat."

"Then why don't you just become one? You don't have any land, but you can survive by eating meat."

“…”

Seeing the topic had gone off track, Eugene snorted and went home. Seeing her eldest son lying in bed, his face pale and his hands trembling, she said distressedly, "Son, I told you there weren't any monsters in that little bitch's house. Did you see it wrong?"

As soon as Jiang Dagui closed his eyes, he could see those murderous eyes. How could he have remembered it wrong?

He had been thinking about Jiang Yue for two or three years, and out of the blue, she married into another family. How could he tolerate this?

He heard that the man was a hunter, and hunters usually go into the mountains to hunt and don't return home for several days. Doesn't that mean Jiang Yue is the only woman left at home?

He finally got the courage to do something bad secretly. As long as he succeeded this time, Jiang Yue would definitely remember him in the future.

It doesn’t matter if you are not a virgin anymore, he doesn’t mind.

But who would have thought that before he could accomplish anything, he was frightened away by a pair of glowing eyes and even fell ill. But now, no one actually believed him!

He grabbed Eugene's hand and said through gritted teeth, "Mom, believe me, there really is a monster in her house!"

"Okay, okay, I believe you. Don't get excited. Just lie down."

Eugene tried to comfort her eldest son, but in her heart, she had already believed the village chief's words. How could a monster come out in broad daylight? It was probably because her son was too nervous and saw it wrongly.

She knew her son was obsessed with that little bitch, but even though they were cousins, she definitely wouldn't want a daughter-in-law like that. She had no choice but to go along with her son's feelings and comfort him, hoping he would finally win her heart back after she arranged a marriage for him.

Jiang Yue didn't care how the rumors started or how they were stopped. She stood guard outside the door for two days, not letting anyone get close to the house. Jiang Nian then slept on the bed in his wolf form for two days.

On the third day, she sat on the threshold, reading the thin manual, trying to memorize the preparation procedures. Cinnabar preparation methods were too expensive, so she could only look at those that required steaming, sun drying, or roasting.

A warm breath wrapped around her neck, and she touched Jiang Nian's ear with her backhand, and he had returned to normal.

Summer clothes were thin, and she could feel the smooth and delicate skin against her back. "You're not wearing any clothes."

Jiang Nian touched her face.

Jiang Yue turned her head and saw that his complexion had returned to normal. His physical condition was indeed very good. Such a serious wound could heal so quickly.

"Big Cub, shall we go to the county town and take a look?"
