Before Lan Yamei could answer her question, two fast horses galloped out of Xuzhou City, carrying two people dressed in plain clothes, and sped towards the city gates.
Murong Xingchen simply waved his hand, and seven or eight fast riders sprang out of the woods to chase after the two ahead, only to turn back a moment later. Also returning were the two commoners who had left the city earlier.
The two men in plain clothes immediately knelt down upon seeing Murong Xingchen, but did not utter a word.
"Is Lord Shen sending you to Yongzhou?" Murong Xingchen asked, staring intently at the two men.
Seeing that the situation was hopeless, the two men dressed in plain clothes quickly took out a letter from their pockets and presented it with both hands to avoid physical punishment. "This is a letter from Lord Shen, instructing us to ride quickly to Yongzhou and deliver it to General Sima. We know nothing else."
Murong Xingchen took the letter but didn't open it. He frowned and asked, "Sima Luyao?"
Sima Luyao was none other than his maternal grandfather. At this moment, he finally understood why the Emperor had entrusted him with handling the Nanfang Nan case.
The two messengers didn't dare to answer; they just prostrated themselves on the ground and kept kowtowing.
Murong Xingchen didn't say much, but sent people to arrest the two men, and the main force immediately returned to Lin'an to report.
On the way, Lan Yamei couldn't help but ask curiously, "Lord Murong, how did you know we were in Xuzhou? And that we were captured by that fat man?"
Murong Xingchen looked troubled, as if he had something on his mind, and only said perfunctorily, "Under the whole heaven, all things are yellow earth, and nothing can escape His Majesty's eyes. All of this should finally come to an end!"
Lan Ya Mei was still confused and wanted to ask more questions, but Murong Xing Chen suddenly whipped his horse twice and quickly rode to the front of the group.
Aunt Guan stopped Lan Ya Mei and advised, "Don't ask anymore. Now is not the time. The truth will come out when the time is right. I'm afraid there are many secrets hidden in this, and it's better if we don't know them."
Lan Yamei heeded the advice and didn't ask any more questions. The two of them silently rode their horses and followed the group. Lan Yamei was worried about Qiu Zeyu's safety and kept looking back.
Upon arriving at Longyang Town, just before entering the city, Murong Xingchen dismounted, clasped his hands in a fist salute, and said to Aunt Guan, "Dr. Mei, my younger sister has been in pain all over her body and sweating profusely lately. I would be grateful if you could examine her as soon as possible. I have urgent business to attend to and need to return to Lin'an immediately. Thank you for your help, Dr. Mei!"
Aunt Guan clasped her hands in a fist and replied, "Don't worry, Lord Murong. I'll go back to the clinic to change into clean clothes, and then I'll take my medicine box and head to the Murong residence immediately."
After separating from the team, the two immediately headed to their own shop.
It was already noon.
The barbecue restaurant was booming, and the group of female staff gradually became more comfortable and less cautious. They no longer dared to speak up and would occasionally joke with customers to try and sell them more. The customers were satisfied with their meal and were all smiles.
As soon as the two appeared at the door, Wang Fengyang rushed over, wanting to hug them, but in the end he rubbed his hands together, blushed, and said, "You're finally back."
Tie Tou greeted them, "Quick, quick, eat something right away, you must be starving." He then called to the kitchen to order two more dishes and personally went to fetch some fried crispy pork. Familiar customers around them greeted the two of them, and the two smiled and responded as they walked upstairs.
Two bowls of wontons, about ten meat skewers, a large plate of crispy fried pork, and a serving of stir-fried vegetables were quickly served. The two were indeed hungry and began to wolf down their food.
After quickly finishing a bowl of wontons, Wang Feng's eyes reddened. "Eat slowly, don't choke."
The two of them chewed their food while looking up at him to comfort him, "It's okay, it's okay! Two more bowls of wontons, please."
Wang Fengyang accepted the order and went downstairs. Just then, Manager Wang from across the street came in carrying a small bowl of pickled fish, smiling ingratiatingly as he said, "Finally, I see you guys! Come and try it, how's my fish?" As he spoke, he placed the fish in front of the two of them.
Lan Ya Mei glanced at it, then picked up a piece for Aunt Guan first. Aunt Guan took a bite and nodded repeatedly, "Delicious! So delicious!"
Shopkeeper Wang was full of confidence and was waiting for Lan Ya Mei to try it.
Lan Yamei took a bite and found the taste to be quite good, almost identical to her own. The only problem was that the fish slices were overcooked, misshapen, and thick, failing to curl up like flower petals. She then said, "The taste is right, but I still need to practice my knife skills."
"Okay, okay! I'll try again when I get back." With that, he dashed downstairs and ran off.
Only after Wang Fengyang brought out the wontons did the two slow down their eating pace.
"How's the shop?" Lan Yamei asked.
“Everything was fine. That day you went out and didn’t come back. Later, Brother Tietou and Uncle Ouyang came back, and then Master went out to look for you again and didn’t come back. I was so worried about you,” Wang Fengyang said with some lingering fear.
"It's alright, see, we're back safe and sound, aren't we? Good people always turn bad luck into good, don't worry. Come on, here's some pickled fish that Manager Wang sent over, why don't you try it and see if it tastes good?" Lan Yamei handed him chopsticks and asked him to sit down and eat.
Wang Fengyang sat down, picked up a small piece of food, put it in his mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and said, "Why haven't I seen Brother Zhao come back these past few days? Where did he go?"
The two women exchanged a glance, and Aunt Guan, remembering something, quickly put down her chopsticks and asked, "Isn't he at the clinic?"
"Not here," Wang Fengyang said.
Lan Yamei thought for a moment and said, "He had something to do the day before yesterday. He had to go to Xiangyang to do something for Qiu Zeyu. He came back after he finished."
Seeing that the two didn't quite believe him, he urged them, "Hurry up and eat. The clinic is opening today, and they've hired fifteen traditional Chinese medicine doctors. Aren't you going to take a look? Besides, you still have to go to the Murong residence. There's no time to waste."
Aunt Guan patted her head, quickly ate a few bites, and asked as she stood up, "Where's Ouyang?"
"The clinic is busy; there are a lot of people coming to see the doctor and get medicine today," said Wang Fengyang.
Aunt Guan stood up and walked out, saying as she went, "You all eat more. I'm going to check on Ouyang first. I'm so busy with all this." Before she finished speaking, she went downstairs with a thud.
Wang Fengyang then got up, walked to the door, looked out, closed the door, looked out the window, and then closed the window.
"What are you doing? There's no danger anymore, don't be afraid, we'll have good days ahead." Lan Yamei thought Wang Fengyang was frightened by the recent events, so she put down her chopsticks and comforted him.
Wang Fengyang didn't stop there. He closed the window, checked it again cautiously, and then leaned closer and whispered, "Sister Lan, I have a treasure here that I haven't taken out yet. Perhaps many things that have happened recently are related to it!"
Seeing Wang Fengyang's serious expression, she calmly thought for a moment. Things had been happening frequently at the shop lately, seemingly increasing ever since Wang Fengyang appeared. So she asked疑惑地问道, "What is it?"
"Sister Lan, come with me." Wang Fengyang stood up, opened the door, and walked towards his room.
