Chapter 173 Brother, I'll Protect Your Happiness

She turned around, and Chen Ji slightly raised his head, staring at her without saying a word.

Xu Ruantang glanced at his neck. "Still feeling unwell? Why don't you go to the hospital to get it checked out?"

Chen Ji had to go to work in the afternoon, and she didn't know if she could leave.

Chen Ji's grip on her wrist remained firm as he pondered how to speak without sounding abrupt.

A cheerful voice came from outside the door: "Old Chen, I'm going to the hospital to see Shuyang this afternoon. Is there anything you need me to do?"

“Yes, take the chicken soup to him.” Chen Ji took the chicken soup from Xu Ruantang, stood up and walked towards Xu Hanli. “Tell him that I’m going over with his third sister-in-law tonight.”

Xu Hanli nodded and took the thermos directly from his hand.

Where Xu Ruantang couldn't see, he gave Chen Ji a wink, as if to say, "Brother, I'll protect your happiness."

Chen Ji slowly curled the corners of his lips.

With Xu Hanli on the case, he's worth two men. Let's see who dares to say he knows nothing now! He couldn't know more!

Xu Ruantang didn't need to go to the hospital. Chen Ji made her sit in the regimental office for a while before letting her go.

"Wait for me at the store this afternoon, don't wander off, I'll come pick you up."

Thinking about having to go to the hospital that evening, she nodded: "Okay."

I haven't had any custom orders these past couple of days. If I do get more later, I'll try to come back as early as possible.

We can't let one incident make us cower like a turtle and never dare to go out again.

When Xu Ruantang arrived at the store, she saw that the people next door were moving things.

When Qiu Liang and Sister Juan saw her, they pulled her aside and asked, "How are you? Are you alright?"

They only found out about what happened today when their neighbors came to move some things.

Sister Juan was so worried about not seeing Xu Ruantang that she couldn't eat. She even sent Qiu Liang to the gate of the compound twice to look for her.

They couldn't get in there and hadn't run into her yet, so all they could do was wait anxiously.

Xu Ruantang smiled and said, "It's alright now. Those people have already been arrested by the police. It shouldn't be so easy for them to get out of here for intentional injury."

Those who commit violence and assault, or intentional injury, will likely remain in prison for at least ten or eight years.

That's just asking for trouble.

Doing business is about making a better life. These people are heartless and cruel. Not only have they harmed themselves, but they've also ruined three families.

Xu Ruantang was absolutely right.

According to Sister Juan, "The landlord said that the police came to her to investigate and collect evidence. She found out that the news of the three brothers going to jail had spread, and the three sisters-in-law had started fighting over the family property early in the morning!"

I heard that one of them ran off with the money, abandoning the child, and the other one went crazy, chasing after the child without a care.

The remaining one then set his sights on the shop, selling everything at a bargain price in half a day. He even threw a tantrum at the landlord, demanding a refund and threatening to die in the shop if the lease wasn't terminated.

"Oh dear, it's true what they say, 'Husbands and wives are like birds in the same forest; when disaster strikes, they fly away separately!'"

Customers who came to buy things sat to the side, and even after they had bought their items, they didn't leave. Instead, they simply sat there and listened to Sister Juan gossip. After listening, they would even sigh with emotion.

"What kind of good children can parents like that raise?" Xu Ruantang added with a complaint, "It's really pitiful for the kids."

Sometimes I really admire the efficiency of people in this era; in just one afternoon, the neighbor's place was completely emptied.

The landlady stood at the door sighing deeply, so Sister Juan invited her to come and sit down. "Sister, are you still planning to rent out this yard?"

The landlady sighed and waved her hand with some worry: "I don't want to rent it out anymore. It's not much money, and I'll be living in constant fear."

When the police came to me, you have no idea how terrified I was; I was drenched in sweat.

Xu Ruantang handed the landlady a glass of chilled plum juice, saying, "Sister, have something cold to cool down."

"Thank you, little sister." The older woman smiled and accepted the gift, then turned to Sister Juan and praised, "Your little sister is really great, pretty and sweet-talking, and she's very attentive! Do you have a boyfriend? If not, my nephew is still in college, I can introduce you to him..."

Before the landlady could even begin praising her nephew, Sister Juan interrupted her, "Sister, my sister is already married."

The landlady looked embarrassed. "You're married? That's quite a quick marriage for a young girl, she looks so young."

During a break from her busy schedule, Xu Ruantang overheard her landlady chatting with Sister Juan and learned that her family had moved to the center of Beijing, quite far from Xishan.

The landlady is at home taking care of her grandson. Today, she asked her daughter-in-law to take a day off to deal with matters at the shop.

"When I left, her face was so sour, I couldn't even look at her," the landlady said loudly. "I bet she'll be arguing with my son again when she gets back tonight. She can't give me a moment's peace!"

"Forget it, I'm planning to sell this house and not come here anymore. All this fuss is too much of a hassle."

Xu Ruantang's eyes lit up, and she was about to speak when Sister Juan stopped her with a look.

She shut her mouth and stood aside pretending to be busy.

Sister Juan smiled gently, "Sister, how much are you planning to spend? We'll stay here and keep an eye out for potential buyers."

The landlady was delighted to hear this and grasped Juan's hand, thanking her profusely: "Juanzi, you're such a kind person! Thank you so much. When the house is sold, I'll treat you to a meal of hot pot sometime!"

"Alright, then I won't stand on ceremony with you."

The landlady thought for a moment, then smiled and said, "How about six thousand yuan?"

This is Xishan, and spending six thousand yuan on a small courtyard with nothing to offer is really expensive.

Xu Ruantang knew that this place would be demolished in the future, but the others did not.

If everyone had 6,000, they would buy an apartment and live in it. Why would they buy such a dilapidated courtyard? It would take a long time to earn that much in business.

Sister Juan nodded slightly, looking thoughtful, and after a moment said, "Sister, it's probably difficult to sell at this price quickly."

"If you come over every few days, the house will definitely be in chaos."

The landlady thought about it and agreed, "Oh well, I'll go back and discuss it with my husband and son, and see what they say."

After the landlady left, Xu Ruantang plopped down opposite Sister Juan and asked, "Sister Juan, how much do you think is appropriate?"

"Four thousand at most, that's the absolute maximum price."

Xu Ruantang didn't understand either, and planned to buy two newspapers when she had time to see what the current housing prices in Beijing were like.

She was still deep in thought when the sound of a motorcycle came from behind her. It was red and white, with a large front and a loud noise.

The car stopped on the side of the road in front of the store, and Chen Ji stepped out of the car and walked towards her.

Xu Ruantang: "......"

Whose car did Chen Ji borrow this time? It looks so strange. The combination of a cold-faced man and a motorcycle feels inexplicably out of place.

Before she could recover from the shock, a figure strode past her. It was less of a walk and more of a flying motion; the speed was so great that she could only see a blur.
