Chapter 2 Goodbye, Vampire

"If we don't give you the dowry today, you'll regret it!"

Xu Ruantang lost interest and turned around to slowly pack her things.

Based on her experience of being influenced by her roommates during her nearly one year of college, this was a dramatic scene of "a daughter eloping with someone, and her family coming to demand a dowry."

Nothing particularly outstanding.

Anyway, the Xu family is rich now, so no matter how much trouble they cause, it can always be resolved in the end.

Smash it, hit it, she likes to hear it.

Instead of worrying about others, she should worry about her own uncertain future.

Xu Ruantang searched the room and found that the original owner had very few belongings.

At least I had a bag made of coarse cloth, but even after putting everything I could carry inside, the bag was still flat.

However, there were two books under the original owner's pillow.

Xu Ruantang's eyes lit up, and she quickly picked it up to take a look.

The thicker book above is called "Complete Guide to Household Daily Necessities." When you open it, you'll find it contains common knowledge about daily necessities, textiles, clothing cutting and sewing, and so on.

The book was yellowed and slightly curled at the edges, clearly having been read countless times, but it seemed to be cherished by its owner.

Xu Ruantang paused, recalling the description of the original owner in the original book, which stated that the original owner did not die after jumping into the river, but was still sent by her parents to a neighboring province to get married.

But something went wrong, and she's transmigrated here now. What about the original owner?

It's very possible that he actually drowned when he jumped into the river.

Xu Ruantang felt a chill run down her spine, and couldn't help but feel a little emotional. She quickly pulled herself together and took out the second book to read.

The second book was smaller than the first, about the size of a man's palm, and the cover featured a classic portrait of a woman from that era.

The name is also rather gaudy.

Xu Ruantang immediately understood that it must be a romance novel.

No wonder the original owner, a rural girl who hadn't received much education, suddenly started to rebel after compromising with her family of origin for twenty years.

It turns out she was influenced by new ideas and longed for freedom in marriage!

Xu Ruantang slowly opened the book and began to read it carefully.

She had only read one page when her eyebrows furrowed and the tips of her ears turned red.

With a "whoosh," Xu Ruantang tossed the book onto the foot of the bed.

She stood up awkwardly, and touched her chest to calm herself down, still a little flustered.

This isn't a romance novel, it's clearly... a novel about a slut!

Xu Ruantang was utterly shocked at that moment!

So this is how people pass the time in this era without cell phones?

It was quite sudden...

In her time, it was impossible to see such things, let alone physical books; there was no way to find them on mobile phones either!

It's still illegal.

What's more, this book is richly illustrated!

"Tangtang, wake up! It's time to go!"

Xu's mother's voice, still tinged with anger, came from outside the door, startling Xu Ruantang so much that she hurriedly picked up the colored scrap book and stuffed it into her cloth bag.

Xu's mother had already entered the room. Seeing her daughter scrambling around, her anger, which had just been building up, surged back up. "What are you doing?! You're still sleeping at this hour! You can't be like this when you're getting married soon. If you get kicked out by your in-laws, you'll bring shame to the Xu family!"

Xu Ruantang thought to herself, "What does the Xu family's reputation have to do with me? You've already squandered it all."

She looked at Xu's mother and calmly asked, "Huh? A Qing Dynasty braid has suddenly grown on my head?"

Xu's mother was startled by her rambling manner, but ultimately said nothing and turned to leave.

Xu Ruantang curled her lip. Sure enough, no matter what era, people always resort to madness to cure madness.

Put aside your lack of morality and enjoy your personal life!

She wasn't even given breakfast before being taken to the train station. Carrying her cloth bag filled with tattered rags, she was given ten yuan, a flatbread, and an egg, and pushed onto the train.

Xu Ruantang sat by the window on the green train, watching Xu Sheng outside still pretending to chase the train, and gave a big smile.

She waved at Xu Sheng, "Bye-bye, vampire."

Xu Sheng was startled by her again and fell to the ground with a thud, his fat body unable to roll over for a long time.

......

As she was about to unlock a new map, Xu Ruantang felt a mix of excitement and fear, and she kept encouraging herself along the way.

"Xu Xiao Kui, you can do it! Keep it up!"

"Keep it up! Try harder! Strain when you poop!"

Then she started humming a song softly, "You love me, I love you, Mixue Ice Cream..."

I felt the song was inappropriate and wanted to change it, but after a while, the Snow King's voice kept looping in my head, so I gave up.

She was soon rocked to sleep by the clattering of the train.

When Xu Ruantang woke up, she touched her empty stomach and took out an egg and a flatbread to eat.

Before transmigrating into the book, she didn't have a big appetite, but now she's full after eating an egg and a small piece of pancake. It seems the original owner had a small appetite just like her.

Out of sheer boredom, she rummaged through her bag and pulled out the thing Xu Sheng had given her—a letter.

Xu Ruantang opened it and found it was a letter of introduction, which briefly introduced the family the original owner was going to marry into.

After reading the letter, the corner of her mouth twitched.

It turns out that matchmakers always exaggerate the qualities of their potential partners, no matter the era!

The letter said that the man was wounded in the army and returned to his hometown to recuperate after being discharged. Coincidentally, his wife died there, leaving behind an eight-month-old daughter.

She also said that since the man's family has no sisters-in-law, mothers-in-law, or other relatives, there's no need to worry about getting along; once married, she'll only need to serve the man.

The man is twenty-eight years old this year, and he's incredibly handsome!

Xu Ruantang stared at the letter and chuckled to herself. Her aunt, sitting next to her, curiously craned her neck to look at the letter.
