Chapter 5 Dad

Jiang Yun was both amused and confused. What was there to envy about not having to go to school?

Besides, it seems that there is no difference between going to school and not going to school now. The cultural reform resulted in a zero-point student, which made everyone follow the trend and stop studying. They just play at school every day.

Oh, she remembered that Jiang Lan was studying in the primary school for children in the compound. She was not affected by the outside world and had to do homework every day when she got home.

The fragrant aroma of steamed cakes wafted in through the crack in the door, which was not closed tightly. Along with the aroma, Jiang Lan's voice drifted in: "Dad, I've finished my homework. Teacher Zhu said my handwriting is good and I can start writing with a fountain pen."

Zhang Xiuying objected: "Why write with a fountain pen? Bring me your homework book. I'll use an eraser to clean it for you this afternoon and you can use it again. If you write with a fountain pen, the book will be useless after one use. And wow, how many times have I told you to write gently? If you use an eraser, the paper will be torn."

Jiang Lan didn't dare to talk back. She lowered her head gloomily and replied with a pout: "Oh." She waited for her father to come home before she dared to make a request. However, her mother rejected it as usual.

Jiang Yonghua smiled and said, "Xiaolan, Daddy is going to take the team to participate in the basketball game. If we make it into the top three, the prize is a Hero pen. If you can get a perfect score on the final exam, Daddy will give you the pen as a reward."

Jiang Lan immediately forgot her previous grievance and looked at Jiang Yonghua excitedly: "Dad, is it true? Is it the Hero pen that Liu Yan's father uses?"

Liu Yan is Jiang Lan's classmate. Liu Yan's father, Liu Jiandong, is an officer in the Propaganda Department of the division headquarters. He can write and draw, and always has four pens in his left shirt pocket. Most cadres, even the division commander, only have two pens in his shirt pocket.

Jiang Yonghua nodded: "Yes, it should be that kind. Only the first one is a Parker pen."

"Parker pen!" Jiang Lan exclaimed, but quickly calmed down: "Parker pens are too heavy, I can't hold them. The Hero pen has a thinner nib, writes beautifully, and doesn't lose ink."

You can’t get it anyway, so instead of envying those who don’t have it, you might as well yearn for what you are about to get.

Zhang Xiuying's opinion was ignored again, and she was unhappy: "Xiao Jiang, you always spoil her! Xiaolan's fingers are so thin, and the pen is so hard, don't break the pen. If you really get a Hero pen, you can use it yourself and give your old pen to Xiaolan."

Jiang Lan's excitement was unaffected by Zhang Xiuying's. As the second child of the family, she not only refused to eat other people's leftovers, but also picked up everything else from her. Her clothes, shoes, and pants were all Jiang Jun's, and her schoolbag was Jiang Yonghua's old shoulder bag. Even her new clothes for the New Year were made from a 60% new old piece of clothing. What was an old pen? Dad's pen, no matter how old, was still the best.

After a quick lunch, Jiang Lan ran and jumped to school with excitement and joy. She was about to borrow the novel and the pen she hadn't gotten yet. This was a big deal, enough for her to show off for a while.

As soon as Jiang Lan left, Jiang Yonghua gently pushed the door open. Standing at the doorway, he saw that Jiang Jun hadn't moved, so he closed the door again and said softly to Zhang Xiuying, "I have a meeting this afternoon, so I have to leave quickly. I'll be back for dinner tonight. Please keep an eye on Xiaojun and wake her up to take her medicine."

After saying this, without even looking at Zhang Xiuying's reaction, Jiang Yonghua went out pushing his bicycle.

Jiang Jun, who was dozing with her eyes closed in the room, heard clearly all the noises outside. She heard Jiang Yonghua's tone was so cold, and she could guess that Jiang Yonghua must have had a blank expression on his face when he said this.

The tone of voice sounded like a complete stranger!

In the future, when the concept of the rule of law is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, this will be considered cold violence.

Jiang Jun couldn't help but sigh in his heart. The way his parents got along with each other was destined to be a tragedy!

Zhang Xiuying didn't care about her husband's indifference, and was even a little happy. Jiang Yonghua hadn't been home for two days. In the past, he would not come home for less than ten days or half a month. Now he took the initiative to say that he wanted to come back for dinner, so it would be best if he didn't leave after dinner.

Thinking of this, Zhang Xiuying quickly took a basin and started kneading dough, muttering to herself, "Oh, there's not much flour left, and it won't rise enough for steamed buns. I might as well make dumplings. I'll get some pickled mustard greens, soak some vermicelli noodles, chop them up and mix them into the filling. Xiao Jiang loves it the most."

Zhang Xiuying is hardworking and quick-witted, and she has a problem of not being able to keep secrets. When she is alone, she especially likes to talk to herself.

"Tomorrow is the beginning of summer, the ground has thawed, and we can plant some vegetables. I'll plant some beans and pumpkins that Xiao Jiang likes to eat, and some green onions and garlic to make sauce for pancakes. Xiao Jiang loves it."

Jiang Yun, lying in the room, actually began to drool. The whole grains Zhang Xiuying was mumbling about sounded like low-calorie, high-fiber foods, pure, natural, and healthy foods.

In the kitchen, Zhang Xiuying continued to mutter softly, and then seemed to remember that Jiang Jun was sleeping in the room again, so she automatically lowered the tone, and only a slight breathing sound continued to be heard.

The low and dense frequency can really drive people crazy, and most people can't stand it.

But Jiang Jun was not afraid of this kind of audio. She was trained and could search for the voice she wanted to hear in the noisy and busy city, and find the person she wanted in the vast crowd.

After listening carefully for a while, Jiang Jun discovered a problem. Zhang Xiuying had been talking for a long time, and it was all about Xiao Jiang liking to eat this and Xiao Jiang liking to eat that, but why was there nothing that Xiao Jun and Xiao Lan liked to eat?

The original owner Jiang Jun's body was not weak, but he was a little malnourished and had just been injured. When he thought of this problem, he began to automatically block his original memories.

Jiang Yun was in conflict with this new body. He was so tired that he fell asleep for a while, but was woken up by a headache again.

Without antibiotics, the recovery time will probably be longer as the patient has to endure this tough situation with his small body.

Just when Jiang Yun felt that the days were passing by like years, Jiang Yonghua came back.

Zhang Xiuying was chopping pickled cabbage and vermicelli noodles in the kitchen, her hands wet. When she saw Jiang Yonghua about to go into the house to see Jiang Yun, she remembered that she hadn't told her eldest daughter to take her medicine yet. She quickly picked up her apron and wiped her hands: "Xiao Jiang, I was busy making dumplings this afternoon. I also went to my sister-in-law Tian's house in the back building to borrow flour. We talked for a while and just came in."

Jiang Yonghua glanced at Zhang Xiuying coldly and picked up the thermos on the kitchen floor: "How many times have I told you that the thermos should be placed on the table."

There was still half a cup of water in the enamel cup that Jiang Yun had drunk at noon, and Jiang Yonghua picked it up and was about to pour it out.

Zhang Xiuying hurriedly grabbed it and said, "Boiled water is good. Don't pour it out. Let me drink it."

He didn't care that the water was cold and drank it in big gulps, making gurgling sounds.

He drank it in one breath and handed the empty cup to Jiang Yonghua.

Jiang Yonghua frowned slightly, took the empty cup under the faucet and rinsed it, then poured half a cup of hot water. He turned around and used his eyes to stop Zhang Xiuying, who was about to shout for help, and walked to the door and knocked softly: "Xiaojun, are you awake?"
