Chapter 6 Sister

Jiang Yun woke up from his slumber when he heard Jiang Yonghua's voice: "Dad?"

Her voice was soft and sticky, and she sounded particularly delicate when she shouted out reduplicated words.

Jiang Yonghua pushed the door open and came in: "Xiaojun, does your head still hurt? It's time to take your medicine."

He knew that Zhang Xiuying would definitely forget to take the medicine, so he rushed back after seeing that nothing was wrong with Corey.

Jiang Jun sat up and watched Jiang Yonghua pour out the tetracycline tablets from the small paper bag. Knowing that he had no chance to put them under the mattress this time, he wanted to take the opportunity of going to the toilet to spit them out.

Unexpectedly, there was no bathroom in this house, only a public toilet in the yard outside.

Zhang Xiuying took off her apron and went out with Jiang Yun.

It was not yet time for school to end or get off work, and there were not many people walking around in the compound. It was very quiet, just like what Jiang Jun had seen in the morning.

Someone greeted Zhang Xiuying: "Aunt Jiang, what delicious food are you cooking? You smell like pickled cabbage."

Zhang Xiuying smiled and replied, "Grandma Zhao, have you eaten yet? My little Jiang is back, so I'm going to make him some pickled cabbage dumplings tonight."

Jiang Jun took the opportunity to cover her mouth and fake a cough, spitting the pills from the bottom of her tongue into her hand. Suddenly, Zhang Xiuying tugged at her arm and said, "Hurry up and call for help! Grandma Zhao is watching you."

Jiang Jun felt dizzy and nearly dropped the pills in his hand. He clenched his fist and turned around. He saw an old woman from the countryside. She smiled and called out, "Grandma Zhao."

Grandma Zhao was shocked: "Is this your Xiaojun? What happened?"

How come this child, who is usually taciturn and runs away like a mouse when he sees people, has changed his personality, smiling so brightly and speaking so sweetly?

Zhang Xiuying laughed and said, "Xiao Jiang said she hit her head and might have a bad memory."

Grandma Zhao was a little upset: "Oh, then you should let her go home and lie down. Don't let her brain be ruined. What a good girl!"

Zhang Xiuying waved her hand: "You don't need to go to the toilet, you still need me to accompany you."

Grandma Zhao's face showed sympathy: "Oh, you don't even remember Dao'er?"

Jiang Yun frowned: "..."

Are these two a taciturn duo? They're talking about things that don't even exist, but they're so in sync with each other, right?

He just went out to the toilet and turned into a stupid kid without brains. Jiang Jun wanted to be angry but couldn't. One was his mother and the other was an old lady from the countryside who kept interrupting. If he explained to them, the situation would definitely get worse.

Fortunately, Zhang Xiuying was thinking about going home quickly, so she took Jiang Yun away without saying a few words.

The courtyard is full of bungalows, and the passages between the bungalows are paved with red bricks. Over the years, many bricks have cracked and been dug out and thrown aside, making the passages bumpy.

Jiang Yun was afraid of stepping into a pit and spraining his ankle, but he couldn't lower his head, so he could only look at the road before taking a step, and walked a little slowly.

"Sister, sister!" Jiang Lan caught up from behind: "Mom, can I go with my sister?"

Zhang Xiuying couldn't wait any longer: "Hurry up, don't dawdle, your dad is at home!"

Although he was clearly concerned, he had to use a commanding and scolding tone, which made Jiang Jun feel uncomfortable.

Jiang Lan watched Zhang Xiuying walk away, then approached Jiang Yun and asked curiously, "Sister, Dad said you hit your head? Why don't I see any injuries on your head?"

Jiang Jun raised his left hand to his shoulder, pointed a finger at the back of his head, and said, "Look, there's a bump at the back."

Fortunately, I didn't break my head after falling from such a high place, and there was no bleeding. There was just a big bump on the back of my head, which I couldn't touch, so I could only sleep on my side or on my stomach.

Jiang Lan stood on tiptoe to look, reached out to touch it, and was frightened by the egg-sized bump: "Sister, does it hurt?"

Seeing Jiang Lan's sympathy and understanding, Jiang Jun grinned and said, "It does hurt, but I can bear it."

Jiang Lan's focus was always on the holidays: "So you're going to take sick leave and not go to school, right?"

Jiang Jun blinked, then darted his eyes left and right, indicating that he didn't need to go. "Uncle Chen told me to rest at home for a few days. He gave me a seven-day sick leave note and told me to wait until the bump on my head subsided before going to the hospital to see him again."

Jiang Lan was shocked: "Seven days! Sister, you can play at home for seven days!" Oh my god, I'm so happy! I was so envious: "I wish I could have a bump on my head too."

Jiang Jun rolled his eyes. "What's so good about having a bump? It's costing you your life!"

You know, this bag is not a bag that cures all diseases, but a bag that throws your soul out of the sky!

The two sisters talked as they walked, and Jiang Lan took the initiative to lead the way: "Sister, go this way, turn around and you'll be there."

"Xiaolan, did our dad ask you to come find me?"

"Well, Dad said it would save Mom from forgetting to go home when she gets busy talking to someone."

Jiang Jun was speechless. Such a mother said that her daughter had a head hit and had no memory. Who had no memory?

Jiang Lan continued to talk to herself, "Sister, today was full of good things. You know, I went to school and only had one class when Principal Qi called me in. I was scared to death."

"It can scare you to death, how can it be a good thing?"

"Sister, you didn't know this, but Principal Qi asked me to send a notice to your parents. I heard it's related to your schooling."

"Is it related to my schooling?"

Jiang Jun was a little puzzled. How could a primary school principal be in charge of middle school students going to school?

Jiang Lan nodded. "Yes, several of my classmates who have older brothers and sisters at home had to take notices home. We all missed a class, but I didn't play outside. Hey, when I got home, I saw my dad was home and my mom was preparing dumplings. Sister, look how good it is that you are sick. Mom even made you something delicious."

Jiang Jun: “…”

Well, she still has to thank the original owner Jiang Jun for this fall, otherwise her soul would be nowhere to be found.

The two sisters solved their physiological problems and headed home. Jiang Lan took Jiang Yun through another passage. "Sister, let's go this way. Liu Yan's grape vines are starting to grow green leaves. She says the grapes are getting sweeter every year. Shall we go and take a look?"

Arriving in front of Liu Yan's house, Jiang Lan excitedly pointed at a patch of green emerging from the wall and said, "Sister, look, there are really green leaves growing."

Jiang Jun couldn't raise his head, so he took a step back and glared upwards: "We can grow grapes at home too. It would be great if we could ask them for some vines."

Planting grapes is the easiest thing. Just get a big flowerpot, fill it with soil, insert grape vines, and apply fertilizer. Soon the whole rack will be covered with grapes. Just now, Zhang Xiuying was mumbling about the beginning of summer in the kitchen. It’s just the right time to plant this.

Jiang Lan immediately jumped up with joy. "Dad's home right now, so I'll have him talk to Uncle Liu. Hey, sister, can we eat grapes in the summer? Isn't it true that grapes grown from someone's seeds taste just as sweet as those grown from that family's?"

Jiang Jun couldn't answer. In her original time and space, there were ready-made matching soil, seeds and fertilizers for growing grapes, as well as detailed instruction manuals.

When she came out just now, she looked at the calendar in the living room. It was May 3, 1970, which should have been a time when materials were scarce.

Since Zhang Xiuying kept talking about growing vegetables, there shouldn't be any problem with planting a grape vine, right?
