Chapter 19 A Petition

It was barely dawn when Song Yan habitually squinted his eyes, preparing to go to the yard to exercise.

Suddenly something seemed to wriggle in his arms, constantly nuzzling against him, their skin touching, all slippery and sticky.

Song Yan suddenly opened his eyes, instinctively stepped back, and looked down to see a disheveled head on his chest, as if searching for a relatively comfortable position.

After Song Yan moved, Wen Ruan was fully awakened. Seeing Song Yan, she first went through confusion and fright, and then started to back away. Considering how she usually slept in a crooked position, she thought that she had been restless in her sleep and had crawled into Song Yan's arms on her own. But she refused to admit it and quickly spoke up, taking the initiative to say, "Get up now, you can't even sleep properly!" After saying that, she glared at Song Yan fiercely.

Song Yan felt a little guilty, thinking that Wen Ruan had discovered his little trick, so he didn't dare to say anything and prepared to get up and change his clothes.

Song Yan sat up in bed, grabbed his clothes, and noticed that Wen Ruan was staring at him. When he turned around, she still looked completely unfazed. Song Yan waited a while, and seeing that Wen Ruan didn't avoid his gaze, he thought for a moment and then prepared to change his clothes.

Just as Song Yan was about to take off his pajama bottoms, Wen Ruan suddenly pulled the blanket over her head, not daring to peek.

This made Song Yan chuckle: "I thought you were very bold."

"Who are you calling a coward!" Wen Ruan's anger flared up, she pulled the blanket down, stared at Song Yan looking down at him, and said with a flushed face, "He looks decent enough, but he's so dishonest."

Song Yan was terrified by his bold little girl and quickly got dressed and went outside.

Wen Ruan also belatedly realized what was happening, and it took her a long time to recover after covering her head with the quilt. Considering that it was her first day as a new bride, she should make breakfast according to custom, so she quickly got out of bed.

The Song family lived in a cadre building, and each household was equipped with a bathroom, which Wen Ruan was very fortunate about. After she finished cleaning up, she walked into the kitchen and found three big men standing inside.

Wen Ruan was a little dazed, standing blankly at the kitchen door watching Song's father instruct Song Heng and Song Yan to make breakfast.

All that could be heard was Song's father muttering, "Song Heng rarely comes back. He's been in the army for too long, and his knife skills have deteriorated. You'll never find a wife like this. I don't even know what Ruan Ruan likes to eat for breakfast. Song Yan, you, as her husband, don't even know. You're really unqualified. In this respect, you are far inferior to your father."

"Ruan Ruan, you're awake. You must have been exhausted yesterday. Why didn't you sleep a little longer? Go and rest after breakfast." Wen's mother came out of the room and saw Wen Ruan at the kitchen door, and said.

Wen's mother's shout startled the three men in the kitchen, and immediately a clattering of pots and pans filled the air.

Mr. Wen felt a little embarrassed, unsure if Ruan Ruan had heard his mutterings.

Wen Ruan greeted the group shyly, then said, "Mom, I've had enough sleep. I was thinking of getting up to let the family try my cooking, but I saw Dad and the others are already making it." Wen Ruan was a little embarrassed.

Wen's mother came over, pulled Wen Ruan to sit down on the sofa, and said, "Why do you care what they do? Just let them do it. Our family doesn't have the habit of letting women cook. Don't feel bad about it. I never used to cook. Your dad used to cook, and later Song Yan and his brother started cooking."

Wen Ruan was somewhat astonished. Good heavens, what kind of wonderful family had she married into? No wonder Song Yan was so skilled at making noodles at the Wen family's house before; he actually had such excellent skills! What was the original owner thinking before? Why didn't she enjoy her good fortune and ended up letting her get away with it?

Before long, the five people sat down at the dining table.

The Song family is relatively small; apart from Song's mother, the other three members all have jobs with decent salaries, so the Song family is quite well-off. Just looking at their breakfast, it's no worse than what Wen Ruan ate at home.

Everyone at the table was very quiet and focused on eating. Only Song's mother and Wen Ruan were chatting about trivial matters, and their conversation eventually turned to Song Yan's older brother, Song Heng.

Song Heng took a special leave to come back for Wen Ruan's wedding, and rushed back as fast as he could, finally making it back the day before the wedding.

According to Song's mother, since Song Yan and Wen Ruan got married, the family has no worries about anything except for one thing that gets in the way: Song Heng.

Song's mother was very worried. He was already twenty-eight years old this year, but he still didn't have a girlfriend. She was also puzzled. Both of her sons were very good-looking, taking the best features of both their parents. Her eldest son was handsome and a college graduate from a military academy. He had become a deputy regimental commander at a young age, but he just couldn't find a girlfriend.

His family initially wanted to introduce him to someone, but he refused, citing the unstable current situation, his desire for a promotion, and the possibility of joining the military before going on blind dates.

But now that he's been promoted to deputy regimental commander, I thought there was no reason for it, but he insisted that the environment in the military district's family compound was not good and that he couldn't delay others, so he would wait until he was transferred back.

The Song family parents felt somewhat helpless. No matter what they said, their eldest son always had a reason to stop them. They weren't the kind of parents who were very forceful, and they also had to consider their child's thoughts, so they could only let things go.

Listening to Song's mother's complaints, Wen Ruan could only patiently comfort her, making Song's mother happy and exclaiming, "Daughters are better; sons are all heartless."

After dinner, Song's mother immediately ushered Wen Ruan and Song Yan into their room, ostensibly to let them have a good chat and get to know each other. Then she directed Song's father and Song Heng to clear the table. Considering that Song Yan got married yesterday, Song's father and Song Yan had taken three days off. With the Mid-Autumn Festival added to the holiday, the two of them could stay at home for a week. However, excluding the time spent traveling, Song Heng could only stay at home for five days, and two days had already passed.
