Wen Ruan had originally planned to do this, but considering that Song Yan was nearby, she felt a little embarrassed and decided to wait until Song Yan left in the afternoon before she and Song Ling came back to soak.
Song Yan understood Wen Ruan's meaning: "Ruan Ruan, if you want to soak in the hot spring, you can go now. I'll go ahead and keep watch for you, otherwise it's not safe for you girls to be here alone."
After saying that, Song Yan walked towards a tree not far ahead.
Wen Ruan asked Song Ling, who was a little shy and declined to soak in the hot spring. She said she would come again when she had the chance, saying that she wanted to see what other rare things she could find in the surrounding area. She told Song Yan and then walked around.
Wen Ruan had no choice but to enjoy it herself. She looked up at Song Yan not far away, felt a little more at ease, and began to take off her clothes to prepare to enter the water.
At first she was a little scared, tentatively stretching her feet out little by little at the edge of the spring, and then slowly immersing herself to the bottom of the pool.
The steam rising from the hot spring, like wisps of white smoke, lingered around her. Wen Ruan felt completely relaxed; at that moment, the cautious tension she had felt since arriving in this era seemed to vanish.
Wen Ruan was in a very cheerful mood and couldn't help but hum a song: "Under the bridge in front of the door, a flock of ducks swam by, come quickly and count them, two, four, six, seven, eight, quack quack quack, so many of them..."
Song Yan, who had been feeling enchanted by the sound of the water, was now relaxed by the cheerful singing, and a smile appeared on his face.
Fearing that Song Yan and the others would wait too long, Wen Ruan did not soak for too long, and quickly came out after about twenty minutes. After finding Song Ling, the two hurried home.
During this time, Miao Cuihua and her husband were still at work and had not returned. After cleaning the mushrooms, the group prepared to make some into mushroom sauce and dry the rest for later consumption.
After heating the oil, Wen Ruan added scallion knots, cilantro and other ingredients and fried them until fragrant. Then she removed them from the oil. Next, she added diced and chopped mushrooms and stir-fried them until the moisture was released. She then added chili flakes, various seasonings and white sesame seeds, turned off the heat and let it cool.
After asking Song Ling for some of her uncle's baijiu (Chinese liquor), she added it to enhance the flavor, and that's how a small jar of mushroom sauce was made.
Song Ling and Song Yan took a big, deep sniff, their eyes glued to the mushroom sauce. Wen Ruan turned around and was amused by their greedy expressions.
"It's getting dark. I'll cook some noodles. Let's have mushroom sauce noodles for lunch."
Song Ling nodded repeatedly, looking at Wen Ruan with a pitiful expression.
When Uncle and Aunt Song returned home, they were greeted by a strong, spicy aroma as soon as they entered the house. Song Ling, with her sharp eyes, urged them to wash their hands.
"My second cousin took us to pick a lot of mushrooms today. Sister Ruan Ruan made some of them into mushroom sauce, and it smells so good! She said we're having mushroom noodles for lunch today. Let's go wash our hands, I can't wait!" Song Ling said in a coquettish tone.
"Oh dear, you brat! Your sister-in-law just arrived and you're already making her do chores? Those hands are the hands of an educated person, meant for writing. Why didn't you stop her?" Miao Cuihua pointed at Song Ling's forehead.
"My sister-in-law said she wanted to make mushroom sauce, but I don't know how. You have no idea how fragrant it is when she makes it." She finished speaking and smacked her lips.
Miao Cuihua couldn't bear to see her daughter looking so greedy, so she washed her hands and went to the dining table.
The group sat down together to eat noodles.
Miao Cuihua praised Wen Ruan highly, exclaiming that Wen Ruan's cooking skills were excellent. Wen Ruan was so embarrassed by the praise that she even packed half of the remaining mushroom sauce for Song Yan to take back to Song's mother and the others.
After his afternoon nap, Song Yan began packing his things, preparing to return to the city in the afternoon.
After quickly tidying up, he looked at Wen Ruan several times, who asked with a puzzled expression, "What's wrong?"
"Are you really not coming back with me later?"
"No, I already told my aunt and uncle!"
Song Yan paused for a moment before saying, "Yes, I'm worried you won't be comfortable living here."
"No, I really like it here. I'm planning to stay a few more days," Wen Ruan said happily.
"Tomorrow afternoon is the fishing day set by the brigade, and I'm going to go watch it. After you leave today, I'll call Xiaoling over to sleep with me, hehe."
Song Yan clenched his fists, opened his mouth, but suddenly stopped, pursed his lips, and a conflicted emotion of wanting to say something but holding back flashed in his eyes.
"Then have fun here," Song Yan said in a cold tone, then turned and walked out of the room.
Wen Ruan looked puzzled, wondering what was wrong with him again.
Originally, Song Yan planned to return to the city around three o'clock, but for some reason, he hadn't left by five o'clock.
"Aren't you leaving yet?" Wen Ruan asked.
"So eager to get rid of me?" Song Yan's expression was cold and stern, his thin lips pressed into a straight line, and his deep voice seemed to reveal a hint of displeasure.
"No, it'll be dark soon if we don't leave, it's too late," Wen Ruan quickly explained.
Song Yan returned to his room, picked up his luggage which he had packed earlier, said goodbye to Miao Cuihua and her husband as well as Song Ling, and then turned to return to the city without saying goodbye to Wen Ruan.
"What does your cousin mean by this? Is he angry with me? What did I do to him?" Wen Ruan asked Song Ling, feeling somewhat aggrieved.
"Sister-in-law, really? Didn't you realize? My cousin can't bear to part with you!" Song Ling covered her mouth and chuckled.
"ah?"
"Given my cousin's tendency to keep quiet, he must have been furious inside. Hahaha, just thinking about his expression makes me laugh," Song Ling continued.
Wen Ruan was somewhat speechless: "You really are your brother's good sister." But she did not refute what Song Ling had just said. She vaguely felt that perhaps what Song Ling said was right. For some reason, a sweet feeling welled up in her heart, and she felt a little happy.
......
As soon as Song Yan returned to the Song family home, Song's mother came out to greet him. "Where's Ruan Ruan? Where's my dear daughter-in-law?" She didn't see Wen Ruan even after Song Yan entered the living room, so Song's mother quickly asked.
"She said she wanted to stay at her uncle's house for a few days and experience more of rural life."
"When is Ruan Ruan coming back? Oh dear, I've felt so uncomfortable these past two days without Ruan Ruan around," Song's mother sighed.
"I don't know." After saying that, Song Yan turned around and went back to his room.
Of course, one knows one's own son well. He could tell at a glance that his son was in a bad mood again, thinking to himself, "He deserves it."
Before, when Ruan Ruan was always chasing after him, his nonchalant attitude made others angry. Now, it's time to let him get angry.
......
That night, Wen Ruan asked Song Ling if she wanted to sleep with her. Song Ling excitedly agreed because she had never experienced sleeping in the same bed with her best friend before, and she was very happy.
Song Ling was very excited all night, asking Wen Ruan and Song Yan about their relationship. Wen Ruan saw that the atmosphere was just right.
After hesitating for a moment, she asked, "Xiaoling, do you like that educated youth Jin?"
