Chapter 4 Encounter



While the two were out, Wen's father made a point of queuing up early and buying a chicken.

Upon hearing that the two had returned, they quickly put down what they were doing and came out of the kitchen.

"My goodness, how much stuff did you buy?" Mrs. Wen exclaimed in surprise when she saw the two large sacks in the living room.

The two took the items out of the sack. None of the items were cheap. They especially noticed the new watch on Wen Ruan's wrist, which cost at least three hundred yuan. They estimated that the two of them had spent nearly a thousand yuan on this trip.

Although everyone knew the Song family was well-off—Song's father had gone directly into the Public Security Bureau after being demobilized and was now the deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau; Song's mother, Ye Yun, although unemployed, was the daughter of a patriotic capitalist; and although she had donated all her assets to support the victory, she was still quite wealthy; then there was the eldest son, Song Heng, who was still in the army and had risen to the rank of deputy regimental commander at a young age; and as for his son-in-law, Song Yan, needless to say, he was a college graduate who worked as the factory director's secretary at a steel plant, and his future was clearly bright.

But even the wealthiest family can't withstand such extravagance from the two of them. Besides, their daughter hasn't even married into the family yet, and it wouldn't be good for her in-laws to have the impression that she's extravagant. Wen's mother was somewhat worried.

Song Yan seemed to sense Wen's mother's concerns and said, "Auntie, these are all things we have to buy. My mother specifically told me before she left that she wrote me a list of things we need to buy." As he spoke, he took out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Wen's mother.

Wen Ruan was very curious because she hadn't seen him take out the note while shopping.

The list is very clear, even specifying how much of each item to buy and which counter has the most fashionable clothes.

"I've remembered it all," Song Yan said, patting Wen Ruan's head as he noticed her confusion.

Wen Ruan clutched her head and glared fiercely at Song Yan. She wondered what was wrong with him lately, why he liked to touch her head so much. What if he touched her head until she was bald?
