Chapter 97 Bold

Wen Ruan felt utterly powerless. She had finally managed to appease Song Yan during the holiday, but now, as she was taking him to school, all her previous efforts had been wasted.

Wen Ruan felt somewhat wronged. Her dormitory was full of top students who loved studying and had excellent college entrance exam scores. Wen Ruan could tell just by looking at the daily necessities and bedding the school had provided.

In particular, the eldest sister, Zhou Wen, is extremely hardworking. She gets up at six o'clock every day to start studying, and the others are also very self-disciplined and will follow suit and get up one after another.

Wen Ruan thought that perhaps it was the historical context of this era that endowed the youth of this time with qualities such as cherishing and loving the opportunity to learn, and having great conviction in this regard.

Even someone like Wen Ruan, who was used to being a couch potato, had to be "spun up" and get up early every day to study with everyone, then have breakfast and attend classes together.

There was simply no time to focus on other things. Even when the student council was recruiting new members, the people in the dormitory discussed it among themselves. Apart from Wu Wenqian, who really wanted to participate in student activities and joined the arts and literature department, the others decided to spend their time studying and declined the invitations from the senior students in the student council.

The gatekeeper seemed to suddenly notice the embarrassment on Wen Ruan's face and the slight darkening of Song Yan's expression, and then he realized something.

With a slightly embarrassed smile, she quickly tried to make amends: "I know that Comrade Wen Ruan studies very hard every day. She lives in dormitory 713. Although it's only been a little over a week since the start of the semester, her dormitory is famous throughout the whole school."

"Not only are they all beautiful, but they are also the first to go to the library and the last to return to their dorm every day. I had heard their professors in the faculty building praising Wen Ruan highly."

"Young Song, you should cherish a good comrade like Wen Ruan!" the old man concluded.

Song Yan finally explained the situation to the gatekeeper, wanting to help Wen Ruan deliver her things to the dormitory building, and the gatekeeper let him through.

But the old man looked at the two of them with a hint of reluctance, as if he felt the conversation was not yet over.

Once inside the gate, Wen Ruan let out a long sigh of relief; that old man was incredibly talkative...

"What are you so relieved about? Feeling guilty?" Song Yan said with a hint of a smile in his eyes.

"Why should I feel guilty? I'm good-looking and liked by the teachers, is that my fault? Their praise of my looks only proves that they have good taste!" Wen Ruan leaned closer to Song Yan and said shamelessly.

Song Yan smiled and shook his head. What could he do with such a lively and mischievous ancestor? Sometimes he couldn't even get angry...

"Looks like I can come to the school more often when I have nothing to do..." Song Yan silently decided.

After Song Yan escorted Wen Ruan to the dormitory building, Wen Ruan had a lot of things and it was difficult for her to carry them all up at once. Song Yan also had no way to enter or leave the girls' dormitory, so he prepared to go upstairs to call his roommates to come down and help.

When they arrived at the dormitory, only Zhao Xiaoyan, the fourth student, was there.

"Xiaoyan, are you going out?" Wen Ruan asked.

“Yes, Ruan Ruan, you’re back from home. Dong Ya went home, and Zhou Wen and the others went to the library and haven’t come back yet. I just went to queue up to call my grandma. The school’s subsidy for this month just came through, and I want to mail some back.”

Zhao Xiaoyan is extra frugal with her meals every day, as she wants to save some of the school subsidy and send it back to her grandmother.

But every time Wen Ruan and the others saw the meager food in her lunchbox, they wanted to help her.

But fearing to hurt Zhao Xiaoyan's self-esteem, he could only pretend that he didn't like some of the food and give it to her during meals.

But after a while, Zhao Xiaoyan realized that her roommate was taking care of her and silently accepted it. She then started to make up for it in other ways, such as helping them get hot water every night and taking the initiative to bring them food from the cafeteria.

Although no one had explicitly stated it beforehand, a tacit understanding had silently formed between them.

"Xiaoyan, don't go to the cafeteria. My mom and mother-in-law brought me a lot of food. Could you help me bring it up with them?"

“Song Yan can’t come up, and I can’t carry it myself either. After we get it up, let’s go to the library to pick up my older sister and the others, and then we can have dinner together in the dorm tonight.”

“It feels like the weather is getting hotter and hotter. I’m worried that these things won’t keep well. If they spoil, it would be such a waste of their good intentions,” Wen Ruan suggested.

Zhao Xiaoyan felt a little embarrassed, as she felt she was always taking advantage of Wen Ruan and the others, and thought she must repay them when she had the chance.

The two ran downstairs and saw Song Yan's tall figure waiting silently.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. This is Xiaoyan. You met her last time. She's here to help me take my things back."

Song Yan and Zhao Xiaoyan nodded to each other as a greeting. The two then took the items from Song Yan's hands.

Wen Ruan said goodbye to Song Yan and agreed that he would pick her up from get off work on Friday.

She watched as Zhao Xiaoyan gradually walked into the dormitory building, and then peeked around.

Today is the first day off after the start of the semester. I guess everyone is either out and about and hasn't come back yet, or like the rest of us in the dorm, still studying hard in the library.

In addition, the girls' dormitory building where Wen Ruan and her friends lived was located on the edge of the dormitory area, and there were hardly any people around.

Wen Ruan quickly stepped forward, stood on tiptoe, and kissed Song Yan on the cheek before running back upstairs.

Song Yan was somewhat taken aback by Wen Ruan's boldness, but also secretly delighted. Before he could react, when he looked up, he could only see Wen Ruan's hastily fleeing figure...

He reached up and touched his cheek, his fingertips seemingly still able to feel the lingering warmth of her lips...

"Ha, I thought you were so capable!" Song Yan thought with a smile.
