Xiao Xiu opened her eyes and felt someone beside her. Turning her head, she saw Luo Yan, who was sleeping soundly with her mouth watering.
Thinking he was dreaming, Xiao Xiu quietly touched Luo Yan's hand and held it, closing his eyes and praying not to wake up.
Hua Li entered the room and was both amused and exasperated by what she saw.
Hua Li reached out and touched Xiao Xiu's forehead; it was no longer hot. Hua Li called out softly.
"Short break..."
Hearing Hua Li's gentle call, Xiao Xiu's eyelids trembled slightly.
"Xiao Xiu, you scared Aunt Hua, Yan Yan, and your Uncle Luo to death. If you don't open your eyes, Aunt Hua will cry."
Xiao Xiu quickly opened his eyes, and in the room full of sunlight, Aunt Hua was smiling gently at him.
"Aunt Hua..."
The two words that Xiao Xiu almost whispered brought Hua Li to tears of joy.
"Xiao Xiu, you can talk now!"
Hua Li had tears on her face but a broad smile on her face.
Luo Yan was woken up by the noise. She sat up with a yawn and turned her head to find Xiao Xiu looking at her. She reached out and touched Xiao Xiu's forehead.
"Yan...Yan..."
Hearing Xiao Xiu call her name, Luo Yan's eyes widened in surprise.
"Yanyan, your brother can talk now!"
Hua Li put one arm around Luo Yan and the other around Xiao Xiu, laughing heartily.
The rumbling of Xiao Xiu's stomach broke the cheerful atmosphere.
Hua Li then realized that she had been so happy that she had forgotten to call a doctor to examine Xiao Xiu.
The doctor came to examine Xiaoxiu and was surprised by the speed of her recovery.
"The symptoms of myocarditis, pneumonia, and meningitis have basically disappeared. Stay in the hospital for a few more days for observation. If there are no problems, you can be discharged and go home to recuperate."
Xiao Xiu's illness was extremely dangerous; the three inflammations could have killed him at any moment. But strangely enough, after being wheeled out of the emergency room and having his family say goodbye, his condition suddenly improved.
After three days of unconsciousness, all symptoms improved, and there were even signs of recovery. It was truly amazing.
The doctor was also seeing Xiaoxiu for the first time and did a lot of tests, but didn't find anything special.
When Hua Li heard from the doctor that Xiao Xiu was fine, she was overjoyed and thanked him repeatedly.
The doctor allowed Hua Li to have some easily digestible food during her short break, so she immediately went out to buy some.
Luo Yan pretended to pour water for Xiao Xiu, and then poured a full cup of spiritual spring water and fed it to Xiao Xiu.
Three days ago, Xiao Xiu was given a death sentence by the hospital. When they were wheeled out for her family to say goodbye, she cried and chased the adults away. They secretly fed Xiao Xiu a large amount of spiritual spring water, which saved her life.
Xiao Xiu was able to recover so quickly because she secretly fed him the spiritual spring water every day, so Hua Li's departure was the best opportunity, and she had to fill his cup to the brim.
Xiao Xiu was very well-behaved; she drank everything Luo Yan asked her to.
After drinking, Xiao Xiu felt much better. He sat up from the bed and hugged Luo Yan.
He really wanted to go far away, thinking he would never see Luo Yan again, but who knew he would see her again.
Xiao Xiu let go of Luo Yan, got out of bed, put on her shoes, and walked towards the door.
He couldn't be a burden to Aunt Hua and Uncle Luo, so he had to leave.
Luo Yan grabbed Xiao Xiu, her strength so great that Xiao Xiu couldn't break free at all.
When Hua Li returned from buying food, the two children were still clinging to each other, one trying to leave and the other holding on tightly.
"Xiao Xiu, where are you going again?" Hua Li asked coldly.
Xiao Xiu kept his head down and remained silent.
Hua Li put down the lunchbox in her hand, picked up Xiao Xiu and put her back on the hospital bed.
"Your Uncle Luo has already talked to your parents. From now on, you will live at my house. They are allowed to come and see you once a month. If you don't want to see them, they don't have to. It's all up to you."
Xiao Xiu looked up in surprise, staring at Hua Li in disbelief.
Hua Li raised her hand and rubbed Xiao Xiu's head. "Aunt Hua didn't lie to you. It's true."
Xiao Xiu's dull eyes lit up instantly, and she happily hugged Hua Li's neck.
Hua Li gently patted Xiao Xiu's back.
"If you suffer any grievances after your short rest, be sure to tell an adult immediately. If the adult doesn't stand up for you, you can call the police. Never suffer alone again."
Xiao Ning nodded emphatically.
There was a knock on the ward door, and Hua Li turned around to see Aunt Shi.
Aunt Shi looked unwell, but managed a forced smile.
"Comrade Hua Li, could you please ask Luo Yan to go and check on Chief Sun?"
Hua Li was taken aback. "What's wrong with Chief Sun?"
Hua Li should have kept quiet until she asked, because Aunt Shi burst into tears as if a tap had been turned on.
"I can't say this, but I can only say that the commander has a very hard life. Only Yan Yan can cheer him up. Please help me."
Sun Bailing was very kind to Luo Yan and Xiao Xiu, and would definitely help them without hesitation if needed. Hua Li asked for Sun Bailing's room number, asked Aunt Shi to stay and take care of Xiao Xiu, and took Luo Yan to visit Sun Bailing.
After not seeing him for a few days, Sun Bailing's hair had turned mostly white, and he lay listlessly on the hospital bed, staring blankly out the window.
When Hua Li walked in and saw this scene, tears welled up in her eyes without her realizing it.
Xu Tianzhong recognized Luo Yan and immediately knew Hua Li's identity upon seeing her. He stood up and greeted Hua Li.
Hua Li also heard about Xu Tianzhong's situation and knew that the one-armed old man was Sun Bailing's old comrade-in-arms. She let Luo Yan go to see Sun Bailing, while she went out to talk with Xu Tianzhong.
From Xu Tianzhong, Hua Li learned the reason for Sun Bailing's despondency.
Sun Bailing lost contact with his wife Shen Suyin on the eve of liberation. Later, after making inquiries, he learned that Shen Suyin was still waiting for him in Tongxian County.
Xu Tianzhong's wife was having a difficult childbirth, and a letter came from home urging him to return immediately. His hometown is Datang Village, Tongxian County, Xingcheng.
Sun Bailing then asked Xu Tianzhong to pick up Shen Suyin on his way back so they could reunite.
To prevent Shen Suyin from distrusting Xu Tianzhong, Sun Bailing handed the dragon-carved jade pendant to Xu Tianzhong, instructing him to take the pendant to Shen Suyin.
As a result, when Xu Tianzhong arrived home, his wife died in childbirth, along with her unborn child. After arranging his wife's funeral, he planned to go and pick up Shen Suyin. On the way, he encountered bandits. Xu Tianzhong was injured while protecting the people, and he also lost his dragon-carved jade pendant.
