Chapter 135 Refusing to Be an Outsider

It was past 1 p.m. when they came out of the bank. Luo Shicheng rode his bicycle with one adult and two children to the state-run restaurant.

Luo Shicheng let Hua Li order the food, while he took the two little ones to wash their hands.

While waiting for the food, Hua Li quietly asked Luo Shicheng, "Tell me how Yan Yan did it."

It was rare for his wife to speak to him first, so Luo Shicheng leaned closer to Hua Li and caught a whiff of her fragrance, which immediately made his throat tighten.

He coughed lightly and said in a hoarse voice.

"Yanyan identified Fang Aihua as being involved in the attack on you and Uncle Sun. As a result, the Municipal Bureau followed Fang Aihua's lead and actually found the mastermind, Wu Xiangru."

Hua Li was surprised, "Wu Xiangru, what is she thinking? The matter between Yan Yan and An Xiaotong was handled poorly by her own, how can she blame it on Yan Yan?"

Hua Li whispered in Luo Shicheng's ear, the warm breath brushing against Luo Shicheng's ear, making Luo Shicheng's face turn red.

"Some people are like this, blaming everything and everyone but never reflecting on themselves."

Hua Li agreed, "That's true... But even if Yan Yan provided clues, does it warrant both a title and money?"

"It seems my wife still doesn't understand the value of the clues Yan Yan provided," Luo Shicheng said.

"Just think about it, the division commander was attacked on the street. How much pressure would the city bureau and the military have to bear? But our daughter solved the case just by pointing at Fang Aihua, calling him 'Grandpa,' and saying 'biubiu.' Isn't that amazing?"

Hua Li gasped, "Now that you mention it, it does seem quite impressive."

Luo Shicheng and Hua Li exchanged a smile. Hua Li sat up straight, and Luo Shicheng followed suit with regret.

"Will Fang Aihua come back?" Hua Li asked purely out of curiosity.

"If you know something but don't report it, you won't be coming back."

"Will she be sentenced?" Even though Fang Aihua made things difficult for Liu Fengling, she never thought of doing anything to Fang Aihua.

"What do you think?" Luo Shicheng asked Hua Li in return.

Hua Li thought about it carefully for a long time and then nodded.

"Probably. Soldiers protect the country. If someone knows that someone wants to harm a soldier and doesn't say anything, it has already threatened national security. It would be unreasonable not to sentence them."

Luo Shicheng nodded, "That's right."

Hua Li then asked Luo Yan, "Yan Yan, how did you know that Fang Aihua had a problem?"

Luo Yan didn't try to hide it, pointing at Hua Li.

Hua Li: "Me? I didn't say anything."

Hua Li sometimes shows a naive and silly side, like now, Luo Shicheng explained while suppressing a laugh.

"What Yan Yan means is that Fang Aihua is so sure you won't come to work that there's only one possibility for her to have Liu Fengling take over your job: she knows you'll get into trouble and won't be able to come."

"Yanyan, is what your dad said true?" Hua Li asked incredulously.

Luo Yan, don't ask. I can't explain it to you anyway. You might as well let me eat a few more bites of meat.

After the dishes were served, Hua Li served food to Luo Yan, and Luo Shicheng served food to Xiao Xiu. The family happily finished their meal, and then Hua Li bought a portion of braised pork to take back to Xiao Yanru.

Seeing that there were still a few hours before the end of the workday, Luo Shicheng rode his bicycle to take Luo Yan and Xiao Xiu home to rest.

When they got home, they found the door next door open. Luo Shicheng opened the door and let the two little ones in, then went next door himself.

When Mo Xian returned from his mission, he saw a note left by the child saying that he had gone to Chief Sun's house, so he went to the east courtyard to pick up the child.

Mo Xian was nearly driven mad with anger after hearing from his child about the outrageous things Wu Cuihua had done.

When Luo Shicheng walked in, the three children were patting Mo Xian's back and patting his chest to help him catch his breath.

Upon seeing Mo Xian, Luo Shicheng remembered the task his wife had given him and called Mo Xian out.

Mo Xian wanted to thank him, but Luo Shicheng told him to go outside to talk. Before he could even say thank you, Luo Shicheng asked him abruptly.

"Old Mo, do you want to find another one?"

Mo Xian froze, staring blankly at Luo Shicheng.

Luo Shicheng frowned. "Do you want to give me a straight answer?"

No, is this the time to discuss this?

Mo Xian, "These three children owe us a lot to you, otherwise I would have..."

Mo Xian's eyes reddened at the thought of losing her three children.

Luo Shicheng waved his hand and said, "If you were me, you would have done the same. We're all soldiers, there's no need to fuss over these things. Did you understand what I asked you? Answer me if you did."

Mo Xian was both amused and exasperated. "I'd like to, but it depends on the person's character."

Luo Shicheng: "You can decide for yourself. Wait for further notice."

After saying that, Luo Shicheng went out and left, leaving Mo Xian alone, bewildered in the wind.

Back home, Luo Shicheng boiled water and made two cups of malted milk powder for the two little ones, while he made himself a cup of tea and drank it slowly.

During this rare moment of leisure, Luo Shicheng sat on the sofa, drinking tea and watching Xiaoxiu play with her toys. Luo Yan scribbled and drew randomly with a pen, relaxed and carefree—a kind of comfort he hadn't experienced in the previous twenty-eight years.

This pleasant moment was short-lived. Luo Shicheng went to answer the door and found Director Yang from the Municipal Bureau and Song Lang inside.

At noon, the military leaders invited Director Yang and Song Lang to lunch in the canteen. After lunch, the two exchanged their thoughts on the incident, and then Director Yang requested to meet with Luo Shicheng.

The leader replied that Luo Shicheng was on vacation and told Director Yang to go back first, and that Luo Shicheng would personally go to the Municipal Bureau to see Director Yang after his vacation ended.

Director Yang knew that this was because he was worried that Luo Shicheng would try to steal people, so after leaving the army, he had Song Lang lead the way to Luo Shicheng's house.

Just then, the case was solved, martial law was lifted, and the guards immediately let the two pass after checking their work permits.

Luo Shicheng invited the two into the house, and as soon as Director Yang entered, his eyes were fixed on Luo Yan.

Luo Shicheng poured two cups of tea and placed them on the coffee table. Director Yang picked them up, took a sip, and showered Luo Yan with praise before changing the subject.

"Commander Luo, I'm not just boasting, but your daughter's future is absolutely limitless. So I'd like to recruit Luo Yan as a non-staff member of the Municipal Bureau. She can gain experience by working with the team on cases. After graduating from police academy, she can come and work at our Municipal Bureau. What do you think?"

To show his sincerity, Director Yang added.

“Non-staff personnel also enjoy basic salary and benefits, and they do not need to be in the office. They only need to show up when they receive their salary each month.”

This is practically free money. No one else would refuse, but Luo Shicheng, who has never worried about money, would never care about such a small amount of profit.

“I can’t make this decision myself; it has to be my daughter’s approval.”

As he spoke, Luo Shicheng asked Luo Yan.

"Does Yan Yan want to be a police officer?"

Luo Yan completely ignored her.

Luo Shicheng borrowed Song Lang's hat and put it on Luo Yan. Luo Yan took it off and handed it back to Song Lang, looking completely uninterested.

Luo Shicheng: "My daughter doesn't want to."

Director Yang had never seen anyone refuse someone like that before.

“Luo Yan is so young, how can we let a child like her make such a big decision? That’s not how parents should act.”

Luo Shicheng countered with a question to Director Yang, "How many officials can achieve the feat of receiving two consecutive Special Merits?"

Director Yang choked, and Luo Shicheng continued.

"Yanyan's comprehension skills are definitely not a problem, if you don't believe me..."

Luo Shicheng asked Luo Yan, "Is it okay if Daddy doesn't take Yan Yan out for a walk?"

Luo Yan glared angrily at Luo Shicheng.

Director Yang, "..."
