Chapter 197 What a filial child!

Luo Yan used a tree branch to pull Feng Dingxiang ashore and back into the water. After several repetitions, Feng Dingxiang became exhausted and could barely hold onto the branch. Terrified, she repeatedly begged for mercy.

"I'm sorry, I was wrong, I won't do it again, please pull me up, please, my little darling."

Seeing that Feng Dingxiang was pale and trembling, looking like she might faint at any moment, Luo Yan didn't pull Feng Dingxiang back into the water, but instead pulled her ashore.

As soon as Feng Dingxiang got ashore, she collapsed to the ground, panting heavily, while Luo Yan continued to turn over rocks and catch crayfish as if nothing had happened.

After a long while, Feng Dingxiang regained her strength and slowly sat up from the ground. Her eyes were filled with fear and malice as she looked at Luo Yan.

Suddenly, a colorful pheasant fluttered out of the bushes by the river. Luo Yan, who was turning over a crayfish, flicked her chubby little hand and threw a pebble the size of her fist, smashing the pheasant's head to pieces.

Luo Yan turned to Feng Dingxiang with a cold look in her eyes and weighed the pebble in her hand.

Feng Dingxiang hated Luo Yan to the bone but dared not act rashly. She saw Luo Yan casually throw a stone and smash the pheasant's head, and her own head throbbed with pain.

Luo Yan swung her hand and killed another pheasant that flew out, and Feng Dingxiang felt as if her own head had been smashed into mincemeat.

Looking at the pebble in Luo Yan's hand, which was bigger than her fist, and then at the dead pheasant, Feng Dingxiang was terrified and knelt on the ground, kowtowing repeatedly.

Following the spot where the pheasant had flown out, Luo Yan went over and found a nest of wild eggs, which she immediately put into her spatial storage.

Yang Tie and Leng Jian saw Luo Yan kill two pheasants and excitedly ran over to watch.

"Yan Yan?" Xiao Xiu called out nervously, not seeing Luo Yan.

Luo Yan, whose figure was hidden by the bushes, responded loudly.

"Brother, pheasant."

She wanted to go into the mountains and catch a few more live chickens to put into her space.

Xiao Xiu, seeing that the sun was setting, disagreed with Luo Yan's decision to venture into the mountains rashly.

"No, if you want to go into the mountains, you should go tomorrow morning. It's too late now and dangerous."

Since they weren't allowed to enter the mountain, Luo Yan walked along the bushes for a long time before encountering three more pheasants. She killed two of them and kept the egg-laying hen to store in her space.

Luo Yan, a tiny girl, easily dragged two large pheasants back. Yang Tie and Leng Jian were so surprised when they saw this that their mouths formed an "O" shape.

Feng Dingxiang was no longer on the riverbank. Luo Yan gave one chicken to each of Yang Tie and Leng Jian, and then directed them to tie the net to a tree branch, holding pebbles and watching the water.

As the fish approached the shore, Luo Yan swiftly threw a pebble and hit the big fish.

The big fish floated to the surface, and Yang Tie and Leng Jian quickly used a landing net to scoop it up.

Luo Yan hit eight fish in a row, two for Yang Tie and two for Leng Jian. Luo Yan had Xiao Xiu string the remaining four fish onto vines, and then string the two chickens onto vines as well, hanging them all on Xiao Xiu.

Yang Tie and Leng Jian each took a chicken and two fish, poured the small fish and shrimp they had caught from the bucket back into the river, put the fish and chicken back into the bucket, and then, with great effort, carried the bucket on their shoulders and walked home happily.

This was their first major harvest since they came to the river, and their joy was palpable.

Luo Yan looked at the two staggering figures walking ahead, as if she were seeing herself who had just transmigrated.

Developing both animal husbandry and agriculture requires a long process. According to her memory, it will take at least another ten years to reach a level of basic subsistence...

She has a space containing magical spring water, where she might try to cultivate new varieties and strive to improve the living standards of the entire population as soon as possible.

However, this goal is too big. She will go into the mountains tomorrow to catch some wild boars, wild ducks and wild chickens to try. Even if she fails, it will at least improve the meals of the people around her.

As Luo Yan walked, she pondered the matter. After returning to the East Courtyard, Luo Yan and Xiao Xiu went to the Kong family first.

Kong Feng woke up from his afternoon nap feeling sullen. Grandma Kong pushed him out to sit in the yard to cool off. She was surprised to see Xiao Xiu almost buried in fish and chickens.

"Where did this monster come from?"

Luo Yan, who was following behind, almost burst out laughing when she heard this. Her short legs twitched and she ran past Xiao Xiu, calling out sweetly.

"grandmother……"

Upon seeing Luo Yan, Grandma Kong beamed with joy, "Girl, what brings you all here? Where did you get so many fish and chickens?"

Grandma Kong's eyes flashed with envy, but she showed no intention of taking advantage of the situation.

Xiao Xiu took a chicken and a fish off his body and handed them to Grandma Kong.

"Grandma, eat meat..." Luo Yan said in her childish voice, waved her little hand at Grandma Kong, and left with Xiao Xiu.

Grandma Kong did not refuse, and looked at Luo Yan and Xiao Xiu's backs with endless emotion.

“My gold lock wasn’t given for nothing. It still remembers its owner, this old woman. What a filial son.”

Luo Yan and Xiao Xiu arrived at Commander Zhuang's house and saw the nanny sitting under the shade of a tree in the yard picking vegetables. They greeted the nanny.

"Aunt……"

The nanny looked up, recognized the child as a member of the Sun family, and assumed the child was thirsty from playing and had come to ask for water. She smiled and asked.

"Should we drink cold water or warm water?"

Luo Yan waved her hand, "Auntie, come on over."

The nanny walked over curiously, and Xiao Xiu handed her a chicken and a fish.

"Give it to Grandpa Zhuang to eat."

The nanny took it and weighed it in her hands; it was quite heavy.

"Did your parents send it over?"

She can't accept gifts from adults.

Xiao Xiu shook his head, "No, we caught them in the back mountain to help Grandpa recover."

The nanny praised them happily, "Oh, what good children! They don't forget their Grandpa Zhuang even when they have meat to eat. Come in, Auntie will get you some soda."

Xiao Xiu waved her hand, "I'm not drinking anymore, we're going home, goodbye Auntie."

When they reached the front door, Xiao Xiu took a fish and gave it to Luo Yan to take inside and hand to Aunt Shi. He then took the remaining fish through the side gate to the Mo family.

The three-pound fish felt heavy in Xiao Yanru's hands, warming her heart. Seeing that Xiao Xiu was all dirty, she invited him to come in and change his clothes before going back, but Xiao Xiu refused.

Xiao Xiu said goodbye to Xiao Yanru and ran home quickly.

"Dehuai..."

Gu Xiu returned from outside and happened to run into Xiao Xiu who was running over.

"Where have you been? Why are you so dirty?"

Xiao Xiu ignored her and ran past Gu Xiu, heading into the house without looking back.

Ignored by her own son, Gu Xiu cried sadly. When she returned home, she found Zhou Bing, who had been taken away, sitting on the living room sofa, and her face immediately fell.

Why are you back?

Zhou Bing had long realized that Gu Xiu disliked her, but she had nowhere else to go and could only swallow her anger.

"I didn't break the law. Once the investigation is complete, they'll release me."

"You didn't break the law? You broke into someone's house by picking the lock. Even if you're not a spy, you're still a thief. How can you say you didn't break the law?"

“I didn’t take a single needle or thread from their house. I was just looking for something. How can you call me a thief?”

Gu Xiu snorted, "Who's so kind as to know how to pick locks? If it were me, I would have been too ashamed to show my face in public long ago."

Zhou Bing sneered and retorted.

“You raised a beast who poisoned his grandmother, and you still treat the beast like a treasure, forcing your own son to run away from home and not even recognize his parents. You are not even as good as me.”

Enraged that her sore spot had been touched, Gu Xiu pointed at the door and yelled, "Get out of here! Don't let me see you again!"
