Chapter 45 Three people can't beat a three-and-a-half-year-old

Hua Li led Xiao Xiu out of the police station, both of them in a daze.

The person who sneaked into her house was actually Wu Chao, the younger brother of the childcare worker Wu Hong. Just to get revenge for Wu Hong, he actually wanted to ruin her reputation.

If Luo Shicheng hadn't taken her and Yan Yan home, and if the Revolutionary Committee hadn't come to arrest her soon, she would probably have faced certain death.

The more she thought about it, the more frightened she became. Hua Li's legs went weak, and she cried all the way from the police station to the gate of the compound, where she happened to run into Luo Shicheng, who was returning from the army.

When Luo Shicheng saw Hua Li crying her eyes out, he quickly stepped forward and raised his hand to wipe her tears, but Hua Li turned her head away to avoid it.

Hua Li looked at Luo Shicheng, a bad feeling rising in her heart, "Aren't you at home with Yan Yan? Where is Yan Yan?"

Upon hearing this, Luo Shicheng's expression changed drastically. Instead of answering, he asked, "Did you just come back after taking the photos?"

This morning, Chen Yuanshan came to pick up Xiaoxiu to take photos. Luo Shicheng didn't give him a friendly look. Hua Li was worried that the two of them would fight on the way, so she asked Luo Shicheng, who was on leave today, to take care of Luo Yan, while she accompanied Xiaoxiu to take photos.

The old leader had something urgent to discuss with Luo Shicheng. Seeing that it was almost time and Hua Li should be back soon, Luo Shicheng locked the door and left.

Hua Li was furious. "Xiao Xiu finished taking the photos a long time ago. The police station asked me to come over, and I went because I thought you were there..."

So for the hour or so that he was gone, the baby was home alone!

If he had known that Hua Li would be called away halfway, he would have asked Aunt Wu next door to help look after Luo Yan.

Luo Shicheng was filled with remorse, but he forced himself to comfort Hua Li.

"It's alright. Wu's house wasn't locked when I left. If the child starts crying, Wu will hear it and help."

Hua Li felt a little relieved when she thought about how Wu Cuihua had helped her when she fell ill last time.

Luo Shicheng told Hua Li not to rush and to walk slowly, while he himself took off running home.

Before he even reached his doorstep, Luo Shicheng saw a large crowd gathered there, and his blood ran cold instantly.

A sharp-eyed neighbor spotted Luo Shicheng and immediately called out to Luo Yan, "Baby, don't be afraid, your father is back."

Luo Yan was crying so hard that she was taking a break when she heard this, and immediately burst into tears again, but she cried too hard and her voice cracked.

Luo Shicheng ran over and happened to hear the baby crying heartbreakingly. He felt extremely distressed and quickly took out his key to unlock the door and go inside.

As soon as the door opened, Luo Shicheng saw the baby standing barefoot under the awning by the door, his hair disheveled, his little face streaked with tears, looking utterly pitiful.

Luo Shicheng felt as if his heart had been stabbed.

He took a few steps over and picked up Luo Yan, his voice tight.

"Yanyan, tell Daddy where you feel unwell."

Hiccuping from crying, Luo Yan pointed her little finger at Wu Cuihua, who was surrounded by neighbors, and said, "Brother is bad..."

Then, pointing at Liu Jingqiu, he said, "Aunt Liu scolds."

Wu Cuihua said that no one believed Luo Yan when she said that Luo Yan hit her third son. Instead, she was accused of framing the baby. Now, under Luo Shicheng's icy gaze, she felt so guilty that she could not even speak properly.

"You child, how could you hit someone and then turn around and bite the hand that feeds you..."

As she spoke, Wu Cuihua turned to the side, revealing Mo Sanshan's bruised and swollen face on her back.

"Look what you've done to your brother, and yet you still say he's bad."

Under Luo Shicheng's imposing presence, he ultimately dared not utter the words, "I think it's you who's bad."

Mo Sanshan looked miserable, but what did that have to do with his baby?

"You said your third child was hit by Yan Yan, how did she hit him, and what did she use to hit him?"

Luo Shicheng wasn't intentionally trying to scare Wu Cuihua; it was just his profession that made him interrogate her so fiercely, like he was interrogating an enemy agent. Wu Cuihua's legs trembled, and she stammered.

“Your daughter threw persimmons at my third son and sprayed him with water, even soaking me.”

Luo Shicheng sneered, "A three-and-a-half-year-old toddler throwing persimmons at someone? Let's not even talk about whether he can hit someone through a wall. Even if he does, will he cause any serious injury?"

The neighbors who were watching chimed in, "That's right, let alone such a small child, even an adult couldn't do it."

Upon hearing this, Mo Sanshan shouted, "It was Luo Yan who smashed it! She even made my nose bleed! The persimmons are still at my house. If you don't believe me, I'll have my mom bring them to you."

Luo Shicheng picked up a pebble from the ground and placed it in Luo Yan's hand, pointing to the courtyard wall, "Yan Yan, throw it over there."

Luo Yan, okay, I'll go.

The little hand reached back with effort, and he threw it out with a whoosh. The pebble hit the wall and fell to the ground, and the cute appearance made everyone laugh.

Luo Shicheng tenderly wiped Luo Yan's tears with a handkerchief, then asked Wu Cuihua with a stern face.

"You can't even throw pebbles over there, and you're saying my Yanyan threw persimmons at your third son?"

"She's faking it, she's definitely faking it!" Mo Sanshan shouted angrily.

Wu Cuihua persisted, saying, "I saw with my own eyes that my third son was hit and his nose bled."

Luo Shicheng bluntly pointed out, "Your third son's injuries are clearly from a fall. If you think I've wronged him, then let your husband see for himself."

Let alone soldiers who have been through many years in the military, even family members can tell something from the injuries.

“The child’s injuries are clearly from a fall. Look, there are scrapes on his elbows and legs.”

Wu Cuihua had nothing to say. She did. Luo Yan turned her head and pointed to her own window and door.

"Daddy, daddy."

Luo Shicheng looked in the direction Luo Yan was pointing and saw that the window glass and door were covered with a large patch of mud. His eyes immediately turned cold and sharp.

"Sister-in-law Wu, did your third son do this?"

Wu Cuihua, who had forgotten that her own son had urinated and splashed mud on Luo Yan, was taken aback.

Mo Sanshan, with his neck stiff, retorted defiantly, "She hit me first."

Now, none of the neighbors were on Wu Cuihua and her son's side.

“They only have a baby at home. Even if you two don’t help take care of her, you can’t bully her.”

"It's fine if this mud hits an inanimate object, but if it hits such a small child, even if you're willing to pay for medical expenses, people wouldn't want their child to suffer."

Seeing that Wu Cuihua had become the target of everyone's anger, Liu Jingqiu picked up his things and moved out of the encirclement unnoticed, but was blocked by Hua Li, who rushed back panting.

"Liu Jingqiu, what are you doing at my house?"

As Hua Li spoke, she glanced into her own courtyard and saw Luo Yan unharmed, being held in Luo Shicheng's arms. She breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing that she couldn't escape, Liu Jingqiu maintained a fake smile and raised her hands, which were carrying large and small bags.

"I heard that Yan Yan wasn't feeling well, so I came to see her. But when I got here, neither you nor Comrade Luo Shicheng were there. I was just about to leave when you came back."

Hua Li had already heard from Chen Yuanshan that Sun Bailing had withheld half of Liu Jingqiu's monthly allowance to compensate Luo Yan.

Sun Bailing originally intended for Liu Jingqiu to write a public apology letter, but because it involved her being taken away by the Revolutionary Committee, in order to avoid the negative impact of the news spreading, he changed it to having Liu Jingqiu come to his home to apologize.

"Since you've come to see Yan Yan, let's go in."

There must be a reason why Liu Jingqiu was surrounded by neighbors and Wu Cuihua. Hua Li pulled Liu Jingqiu into the yard, determined to find out the truth.
