Chapter Three: Baby Clinging to Thigh

Luo Shicheng dressed Hua Li and picked him up, only to find that the person was incredibly light, as if a gust of wind could blow him away.

Luo Shicheng carried Hua Li into the back seat of the car, while Sun Bailing carried Luo Yan into the passenger seat. Luo Yan cautiously asked Sun Bailing a question.

"Uncle, where are we taking Mommy?"

Sun Bailing felt a surge of warmth when the little boy called him "uncle," and his stern expression softened somewhat.

“Your mother is sick, and your grandfather and father are taking her to the hospital.”

At least her mother won't develop any lasting health problems, but it's still a huge worry for this little baby. Luo Yan breathed a sigh of relief.

"Uncle, can you stay with my mom?"

Um?

Sun Bailing was speechless. "That's your father's wife. If he's going to accompany her, it should be your father. Grandpa can't accompany her."

Luo Yan blinked innocently, "My dad doesn't stay with my mom, he stays with Aunt Liu."

Sun Bailing turned around and glared angrily at Luo Shicheng, "Luo Shicheng, you explain yourself clearly."

Luo Shicheng: "Nonsense, did your mother teach you to say that?"

Ha, you scumbag dad, you can't handle this? There's more to come.

Luo Yan shrank into Sun Bailing's arms in fear.

"Daddy's bad, I don't want Daddy anymore, you should be An Xiaotong's dad instead, waaaaah..."

Sun Bailing's eyes were like knives. "Fine, Luo Shicheng, if you don't explain yourself clearly today, I'll dismiss you from your post."

Luo Shicheng had no words to say, so he kept quiet and remained silent.

The car stopped, finally rescuing the bewildered Luo Shicheng. They quickly carried Hua Li out of the car and took her to the hospital.

After examining Hua Li, the doctor coldly asked Luo Shicheng who Hua Li was.

"She is my wife."

The doctor slammed the diagnosis report on the table and began writing rapidly.

"You only thought of taking him to the hospital when he was almost burned to death? What kind of husband are you?"

Having just been scolded by his teacher and then by the doctor, today was his day of being scolded. Luo Shicheng listened silently.

When was the patient's last meal? What medications did they take? When did the fever start? Do they have a history of allergies?

Luo Shicheng was stunned.

The doctor looked up and stared at Luo Shicheng with a long face.

"You don't know anything, do you?"

Luo Shicheng wanted to say he really didn't know, but seeing the doctor's gaze behind his glasses, as if he were looking at a criminal, he remained silent.

"Auntie, I know."

Luo Yan answered the doctor's questions based on the original owner's memories.

"My mother and I have already..."

Luo Yan counted on her fingers, "One, two... I haven't eaten for two days."

The moment the words left his mouth, everyone, including Luo Shicheng, was taken aback.

Both the doctor and Sun Bailing glared murderously at the bewildered Luo Shicheng.

Luo Yan continued.

“Mom had a fever, but I didn’t cry even though I was hungry. We didn’t have any medicine at home, so I poured water for Mom to drink. I don’t know what an allergy is…”

The doctor, wanting to hit someone, pulled a bag of alphabet cookies from his pocket and handed it to Luo Yan.

Luo Yan was really hungry; her eyes lit up at the sight of the cookies, but she still stubbornly shook her head.

"Mom said I can't take things that don't belong to me."

The doctor was heartbroken to see this and took Luo Yan's hand to place the biscuit on her.

"It's from your aunt. Don't worry, your mom won't say anything."

Luo Yan bowed deeply to the doctor, "Thank you, Auntie."

Witnessing this scene, Luo Shicheng felt like a sinner awaiting sentencing.

Luo Yan tore open the bag with her baby teeth, took out the biscuit, and put it into Hua Li's mouth.

"Mom, eat it, and you'll feel better."

With tears in his eyes, the doctor filled out the examination form and handed it to Luo Shicheng along with the diagnosis.

"Go pay the fee."

Sun Bailing picked up Luo Yan, his heart filled with rage. Luckily, Luo Shicheng wasn't his son; if he were, he would have beaten him to death on the spot.

After paying and undergoing examinations upstairs and downstairs, Hua Li was finally admitted to a ward, while Luo Shicheng was called into the corridor by Sun Bailing for a reprimand.

"I heard from the doctor that your wife is malnourished and extremely weak?"

Luo Shicheng lowered his head and remained silent.

Sun Bailing pointed at Luo Shicheng with exasperation, "Once your wife recovers, this matter must be resolved."

The housekeeper came over with a thermos lunchbox. Sun Bailing, at least out of consideration for Luo Shicheng's feelings, carried Luo Yan back to the ward.

The aunt served Luo Yan some vegetable porridge, let it cool to lukewarm, and placed it on the folding table. While she turned to get eggs and stir-fried vegetables, Luo Yan had already climbed onto the chair, sat down, and started wolfing down the food with a spoon.

Luo Shicheng had never seen a child eat like this before. He shoveled food into his mouth, even when he choked, he didn't want to cough and just kept swallowing.

Sun Bailing couldn't stand it anymore, slammed the door, and left. He returned shortly afterward, carrying a bunch of things for the children.

After finishing a bowl of porridge, Luo Yan asked the auntie if she could have some more.

The aunt was both shocked and heartbroken. She served Luo Yan another half bowl of porridge, making sure it wasn't too hot before giving it to her.

Luo Yan finished half a bowl of porridge in the blink of an eye, but still wanted more, so her aunt coaxed her not to eat any more.

"You can't eat too much at once when you're really hungry, it'll hurt your spleen and stomach. If you like it, Auntie will bring you some more tomorrow, okay?"

Luo Yan nodded obediently.

I've never seen such an obedient child. How could the father bear to abuse his child like this?

The aunt gave Luo Shicheng a reproachful look.

Seeing that Luo Yan wasn't eating, Sun Bailing took out the floral dress he had bought for her and asked her if she liked it.

What child doesn't love new clothes? But what is this?

She wore a green top, a bright red floral skirt, a pair of large red hair accessories, and a pair of small purple leather shoes.

Is this an attempt to dress her up like a clown?

The terrifying chauvinism of men drove Luo Yan to the brink of collapse, and she frantically shook her head in rejection.
