Chapter 14: Quarrel (1/2)

Chapter 14: Quarrel

Sitting under the big tree, with his back against the thick trunk, and the breeze blowing gently, Su Tao felt that he was alive again.

He Chuan sat not far from Su Tao, with his head raised. His bronze arms were holding a kettle, and he was drinking water in big gulps, making gulp sounds. His Adam's apple vibrated up and down. The man was sexy but unaware of it. He raised his hand to wipe the water stains from the corners of his mouth.

He Chuan felt a burning gaze fixed on him. He looked back, his narrow eyes fixed on Su Tao, who was still watching him intently, his gaze intense and intense. His heartbeat inexplicably quickened, and he hid the undercurrent in his eyes as he asked, "What's wrong? Is there something wrong with my face?"

"Ah? No." Su Tao's face turned slightly red, and she looked ashamed of being caught. It was so embarrassing that she was stunned by looking at a man.

Seeing Su Tao pretending to be calm, He Chuan let out a barely perceptible smile. He opened his package, took out the cold and hard black steamed bun from the morning, and began to chew on it.

I saw a small hand as white as a scallion reaching out tremblingly, holding a banana leaf, with golden pancakes neatly placed inside, and emerald green onion dots dotted on it, looking particularly delicious and appetizing.

"Here, let's eat it together." Su Tao smiled faintly, with a smile faintly visible at the corner of his lips, just like the snow pear flowers blooming in spring, clean and pure.

The brilliant smile at this moment was like a sharp knife that deeply hurt He Chuan's heart. He did not need her charity or her affection.

"Take it back, I don't want it!" He Chuan rejected her words in a rough voice, his voice as cold as the biting cold wind.

Su Tao really didn't know what he had done wrong to make their relationship seem like it had returned to the way it was when they first met. His narrow, sinister eyes were filled with indifference and alienation, like a lone wolf on a precipice.

Su Tao's cold attitude made her nose sore, and her eyes soon filled with tears. She choked up and said aggrievedly, "This is something they worked so hard for. They came here early in the morning before daybreak to make it just for you. Many male educated youth came to ask for it, but they were reluctant to give it to them."

"It's fine if you don't want it, but you're still mean to me. What did I do wrong? Tell me!" Su Tao became more and more excited as he spoke, and his tears flowed like a flood that could no longer be stopped.

The man saw the woman before him trembling, her eyes red and swollen from crying, and his heart ached, igniting a wave of emotions he couldn't quite put his finger on. He wondered how he could possibly comfort this delicate woman. He was just that kind of person. He kept his distance from her, even if it meant anything to him.

The man withdrew his hand that was about to be extended to comfort her, clenched his fists, and his stiff body did not move any further.

Seeing the man's cold and resolute attitude, Su Tao had no intention of coming to comfort her. He felt even more aggrieved and unworthy. No matter if he was her savior, her nemesis, or her parasite, he could all go to hell.

She didn't want to pay any more attention to him, and threw the pancake wrapped in banana leaves into the man's arms, "Eat it if you want, or not. If you don't want to eat it, just throw it away." She picked up the cloth bag and ran towards Fang Qi at the village entrance.

He Chuan stared at the pancakes in his arms, sighed silently, picked up a pancake and put it in his mouth. Even after a whole morning, the pancake was still crispy and delicious, and the rich aroma of onions filled his entire mouth. It was like a feast.

Thinking of Su Tao's words just now, and that he had done it specifically for him, a sweet feeling welled up in his heart. She would never talk to him again, right? Thinking that he might never have any contact with her again, the sweetness in He Chuan's heart was melted by bitterness.

After lunch, He Chuan gathered his thoughts, stood up dejectedly and returned to the fields to continue working.

-------------------------------------

Su Tao cried all the way back to the dormitory. The educated youth had all gone to work, and there was no one in the dormitory. Su Tao changed his muddy clothes and sat by the bed crying for a long time.

After his emotions gradually calmed down, a wave of fatigue surged over his body. Su Tao listened to the cicadas chirping outside the window, his eyelids drooping, and he slowly fell asleep.
