Chapter 16: Ramen and Pig Grass (2/2)

The sky was clear and cloudless, and the stream was flowing slowly. She came to the river at the agreed time to continue cutting grass for the pigs.

With the practice in the morning, Su Tao cut grass several times faster in the afternoon, and soon he had cut a bamboo basket.

Tiedan and Yuya had already finished cutting grass and were fishing by the river. When they saw Su Tao had finished cutting grass for the pigs, they excitedly waved and called out, "Sister Taotao, come quickly, let's go fishing together~"

Su Tao joined them with some interest, but despite repeated attempts, she couldn't catch a single fish. To her surprise, she discovered the riverbed was covered in snails. Fried snails were once her favorite snack. The thought of the spicy and delicious flavor of the snail meat made her salivate.

Su Tao stopped slacking off and took out his big cloth bag to pick out the snails one by one.

Tiedan and his wife watched Su Tao picking up snails and couldn't help but lean over and ask curiously, "Sister Tao Tao, why are you picking up so many snails? We feed them to the chickens."

After hearing this, Su Tao was very upset. Feeding chickens? Telling the two kids about this made her feel like she was eating chicken feed.

Su Tao quickly corrected Luobotou's understanding: "This snail can not only be fed to chickens, but also eaten by humans. It's delicious."

"How about you help me pick them? When I'm done, I'll invite you to eat them together, okay?" The snails in the river were of different sizes, and it was too slow for Su Tao to pick them alone, so she wanted to persuade the two boys to help her.

The two carrot heads agreed without thinking. They had always had fun catching fish, and now they thought picking snails was also interesting. Moreover, according to Su Tao, they could be eaten.

With the help of two people, Su Tao's cloth bag was full in no time. Su Tao only thought about filling it, but he didn't think about how to carry it. After it was full of snails, the bag was extremely heavy. It was only with the help of the two little carrots that the three of them carried the bag and walked back with difficulty.

The bag of snails weighed at least 30 pounds. The three of them walked and rested for a while. It took them half an hour to reach the destination, which was a 10-minute journey. Su Tao regretted packing so many at once. He could have brought more next time.

The three of them were moving forward with difficulty, when suddenly their hands felt lighter and the cloth bag passed by their eyes and appeared on the shoulder of the tall and familiar figure.

"Brother Chuan~Brother Chuan~", the two little kids greeted excitedly.

Su Tao looked at someone's back with jealousy. He didn't expect that someone was not liked by the villagers, but was quite popular among children.

Thinking about how much their relationship had progressed after helping He Xinyi with her work for a whole day, Su Tao felt extremely unhappy and didn't want to pay any attention to He Chuan.

He Chuan looked at the person who usually liked to chatter around him, but didn't talk to him today. Her eyes dimmed, as if they had lost their former luster. He felt lost in his heart. She really wouldn't pay attention to him anymore.

He Chuan delivered the things all the way to the entrance of the resettlement site for educated youth before leaving.
