Chapter 17 Stir-fried Snails (1/2)

Chapter 17 Stir-fried Snails

When the male educated youth saw Su Tao carrying a cloth bag in with difficulty, they all came forward to lend a hand and helped move it into the kitchen.

"Why are you picking up so many snails? The snail meat is bitter and full of mud and sand? I remember your job is not to feed chickens." An educated youth asked curiously when he saw the snails in the cloth bag.

Su Tao was upset again. He couldn't get over this hurdle. Yes, why did everyone think of feeding snails to chickens when they saw them?

"No, I picked it up to eat myself." Su Tao replied indifferently. If it weren't for her serious expression, everyone would have thought she was joking.

"Is this edible?" someone in the crowd questioned, then quickly fell silent. Remember last time, everyone said the pig intestines were smelly and unpalatable, but what happened? Everyone was still savoring the delicious, crisp texture, wondering if they should buy some themselves next time and have Su Tao cook it for them.

With this thought, everyone looked at the bag of snails with a curious eye, their eyes sparkling. If Su Tao said they were edible, they must be right. Su Tao was such a connoisseur; she wouldn't touch anything that wasn't tasty. After trying Su Tao's cooking a few times, everyone's tastes had become so refined that they couldn't even taste the food they ate.

Everyone saw Su Tao keeping the snails in a pot, as if he had no intention of cooking them.

"Aren't you going to cook?" someone in the crowd couldn't help but ask impatiently.

"Well, no, these snails do contain a lot of mud and sand as everyone said, so we have to keep them in clean water for two days and wait for the snails to spit out the sand before we can cook them." Su Tao smiled and explained slowly.

Seeing everyone's expectant expressions, Su Tao burst out laughing and quickly responded, "When it's cooked, how about everyone helping me taste it?"

Everyone was delighted when they heard this. This Su Tao was truly talented. Those who had previously been critical of his reputation had now all changed sides. Rumors were simply unbelievable. What a wonderful person! She was incredibly beautiful, like a fairy, humble, and could even cook. She was infinitely better than that He Xinyi.

-------------------------------------

These days, Su Tao followed Tiedan and Erya to collect grass for pigs and never met He Chuan again.

The snails have been kept for two days and have almost spit out all the mud. Su Tao decided to cook them today and make stir-fried spicy snails.

Su Tao was about to go back to his room to change into clean clothes, but when he reached the dormitory door, he heard bursts of crying coming from inside. Su Tao recognized the sound of He Xinyi crying and Li Yongmei comforting her.

"Xinyi, don't cry. Did that He Chuan bully you?"

When Su Tao heard He Chuan mentioned, he stopped and did not rush in. Through the crack in the door, he saw Li Yongmei looking as if she wanted to get her husband back for He Xinyi.

"How can a grown man like him be like this? He saw that you couldn't finish the farm work and didn't even offer to help. I heard that you haven't completed your tasks and haven't been paid for the past few days." Perhaps it touched He Xinyi's sore spot, and she cried even louder.

"Hey! Stop crying. Your face will get rotten if you keep crying." The crying stopped abruptly. Su Tao saw through the crack in the door that He Xinyi quickly took a mirror to look at herself.

Su Tao hadn't noticed, but he'd noticed He Xinyi's skin had changed a lot over the past two days. Not only had her fair skin darkened several shades, but from prolonged sun exposure, it had developed red spots, swelling, and cracks.

Seeing He Xinyi's tears biting her skin, which was both painful and itchy and she kept wanting to scratch it, Su Tao felt a sense of relief.

She is not the Virgin Mary. He Xinyi has fanned the flames against her many times. Considering that she is the heroine, she was already polite enough not to respond.
