Chapter 74 Departure (1/2)

Chapter 74 Departure

Su Tao carefully helped He Chuan pack his clothes. He had to take the warm clothes he'd exchanged for through the system, as well as his down jacket. He had to remember to stay warm. Su Tao knew that freight haulers like them often took turns sleeping in the trucks at night. One person would rest while the other watched over the cargo, and they rarely stayed in hotels. He had to dress warmly for nighttime vigilance.

Su Tao also baked some flatbreads in the stove. The flatbreads were dry, crispy and perfect as dry food. They could be kept for many days in cold weather without going bad. However, if the weather was too cold, the flatbreads would become a little hard.

"There is a restaurant. Don't save money and go to the restaurant to have some hot food. Take this pancake with you in case you pass through an uninhabited area to satisfy your hunger. OK?" Su Tao looked a bit like an old nanny at this time, giving repeated instructions.

"I understand." There was a smile in He Chuan's eyes.

Just as He Chuan was about to leave, Su Tao suddenly recalled something important. The book seemed to mention that He Chuan had a defect in the back of his foot. It was from a trucking accident during heavy rain and strong winds, which had injured his foot and made walking difficult. Even after he became wealthy and sought treatment at the most advanced medical institutions, the pain only eased, making him appear to walk more normally. A closer look revealed the problem, and the windy, humid season brought unbearable pain, which he relied on medication to alleviate.

Because He Chuan is only a supporting character in the book, and the main focus later on the description of the male and female protagonists, He Chuan's affairs are only briefly mentioned in a sentence or two, with very little description. Su Tao also doesn't know how the car accident happened, or in which year it happened.

Now that He Chuan had driven the truck ahead of schedule, would this incident happen again? Would it also happen ahead of schedule? Regardless of whether it would happen or not, she had to remind He Chuan to avoid it as much as possible.

"Wait a minute!" Su Tao chased after him and called out to He Chuan.

When He Chuan saw Su Tao running towards him in a hurry, he thought that Su Tao was reluctant to let him catch up.

"What's wrong? I'm going to Shanghai this time. I might be back in half a month. Don't worry."

"No, you must listen to me this time. If you encounter bad weather with heavy rain and strong winds while transporting goods, don't drive. Wait until the rain stops or the sky clears up before driving. Even if it will delay the delivery, don't rush. Do you understand? Safety first." Su Tao said nervously while holding He Chuan's hand.

"Okay, I understand." He Chuan replied with a smile.

Su Tao still didn't let go, his dark eyes fixed on He Chuan, with an indescribable seriousness, "I don't want you to know, but you must do it, promise me."

He Chuan was stunned. He had never seen Su Tao so serious before, as if something serious had happened. He Chuan knew that she was too worried and assured her, "I promise you, I will come back safely."

Su Tao's heart was temporarily relieved after hearing the man's assurance. As long as the man didn't come back safely, she couldn't completely let go of her heart.

He Chuan turned around and continued walking forward, as usual without looking up.

Su Tao watched the man's back as he walked away, praying silently in his heart, "You must return safely."

He Chuan and Qian Lai came to the town together to meet Jiang Dashi, and then took a bus to the county town together.
