Chapter 14 Severing Family Ties

"You brat, what are you doing hiding in there? Come out and help with the work!"

Luo Minjuan's voice came from outside.

Sheng Qian patted Sheng Guanhua, who looked worried, and said, "I'll go help first."

Sheng Guanhua opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing.

Sheng Qian is also staying home for dinner, so it's only right that I help out.

Once all the dishes were served on the square wooden table, Luo Minjuan instructed Sheng Qian, "Why aren't you serving your brother rice and dishes yet?"

"Mom, I want to eat at the table," Sheng Guanhua said. He was already able to get out of bed and didn't need to eat like a patient lying in bed.

“Guanhua, don’t get down. The doctor said you should rest as much as possible and avoid strenuous activity! What if the wound flares up again? Listen to your mother, just eat while sitting in bed.” Luo Minjuan’s tone was noticeably gentler when she spoke to Sheng Guanhua.

Sheng Li chimed in, "That's right, we should listen to the doctor and not move around. Qian, go and pack your brother's food and take it over there."

Actually, the square table was only a few steps away from the bed.

“Mom, I want to eat at the table. I can’t eat sitting on the bed,” Sheng Guanhua insisted.

Upon hearing this, Luo Minjuan's heart softened, and she said to Sheng Qian, "Help your brother down."

As she spoke, Luo Minjuan went over to help Sheng Guanhua.

Sheng Qian and she each helped one side of Sheng Guanhua off the bed and sat him down at the table.

Sheng Qian saw clearly that he only had one external injury, and the reason he was temporarily unconscious was because he bumped his head.

"This food smells delicious! Sister, did you bring all of this back from the Long family?" Sheng Guanhua's appetite was whetted by the aroma of the food!

The food tasted very different.

Sheng Qian said, "It was taken from the Long family."

"Has the Long family's son woken up?" Luo Minjuan asked.

"He's not awake."

"Why are they so happy to bring you so many things back if you haven't woken up yet?" Luo Minjuan couldn't help but look at her daughter's face and noticed that her daughter's previously tanned skin had become smoother and whiter.

As expected of someone raised in luxury, such a dramatic change in less than ten days.

"When I used to serve people, how could they not be happy?" Sheng Qian replied perfunctorily.

"Mom and Dad, do you know where we can find yam in Wutong Village?" Sheng Qian asked again after a while.

Sheng Li asked curiously, "Why are you asking about this?"

“The Long family needs it, and I also want to get some nourishment for Guanhua,” Sheng Qian said at the end, and Luo Minjuan’s heart stirred.

“We’ll go ask Dr. Zhong in the village later,” Sheng Li said.

Sheng Qian then said, "I'll go with you."

Sheng Li nodded.

As Sheng Guanhua ate his meal, his gaze lingered on Sheng Qian with curiosity.

His sister is really a bit strange.

After the meal, Sheng Qian urged Sheng Li, and the two quickly headed towards the Zhong family's house in the village.

As Sheng Li walked, he asked, "You haven't made any mistakes while you were with the Long family, have you?"

"What mistakes could I possibly make?"

"It's good that you didn't make any mistakes. There's nothing we can do at home. Don't cause any more trouble for the family." Sheng Li was worried that Sheng Qian would cause trouble for the family.

Once a woman is married, she's married. If she continues to cause trouble at home, she won't be well-liked.

Although Sheng Li was a bit dull, he still had the blood of Old Madam Sheng and Sheng Hongyang flowing through his veins. Sheng Qian knew exactly what those two old guys were like.

Sheng Li may seem honest, but deep down he still has the same stubbornness he inherited from Sheng Hongyang, and he can still strike unexpectedly.

"While you were leaving, I had a falling out with my uncle's family," Sheng Qian said to Sheng Li as she saw people greeting her from time to time on the roadside.

Sheng Li's eyes widened, and he almost blurted out, "What did you say?!"

“My uncle’s family wanted my house, but I refused. They got angry and tried to force me, so I told them I was cutting off all ties. We’ll deal with this when you come back. Whether you cut off ties or not is up to you. Anyway, I will never acknowledge such relatives again, and I won’t contact them for anything in the future.”

Sheng Qian rattled off a whole bunch of things, leaving Sheng Li wide-eyed and unable to process what she was saying.

Seeing that Sheng Li didn't react, Sheng Qian continued, "My uncle had ulterior motives from the beginning in introducing me to someone else. He also gained a huge benefit from it, so this family relationship can be considered a 'buyout'."

Sheng Li's eyes widened even more as he stared in disbelief at his gentle daughter: "You, how could you do this? You're a girl..."

"If it weren't for Sheng Guanhua, the relationship between Sheng Qian and you two elders would probably have been completely shattered when you sold her off." Sheng Qian wasn't afraid to make such a definitive statement.

Sheng Li forced a smile and nodded at the villagers who greeted him, but his eyes blazed with anger at Sheng Qian's words.

After exchanging greetings, Sheng Li was about to say something when they arrived at Dr. Zhong's house. Sheng Li could only grit his teeth and say, "I'll deal with you when we get home."

Dr. Zhong is already sixty years old, but he is still very skilled at treating patients and very efficient in his work.

These kinds of doctors become more valuable as they get older.

Sheng Qian came over and asked a few questions. It just so happened that Doctor Zhong had some cheap dried medicinal herbs for sale, so Sheng Qian ignored Sheng Li's objections and bought several bags.

The way Dr. Zhong and his family looked at Sheng Qian instantly changed.

Although she married a living dead man, his family was rich. Look, he didn't even blink an eye when buying things.

They didn't hesitate to pay.

After leaving Dr. Zhong's house, Sheng Li coldly demanded that Sheng Qian be dragged back to be taught a lesson.

As soon as they arrived home, Sheng Li raised his hand to slap Sheng Qian, but Sheng Qian calmly caught it, making Sheng Li's eyes almost pop out.

This is outrageous!

How dare a daughter disobey her own father?

"Dad, I advise you not to hit me. I'll go back to town and complain to that family. Then you won't be able to get any more benefits. Also, since you know how powerful the Long family is, you'd better treat me better. I'm someone who can talk back to them now," Sheng Qian said coolly, shaking off Sheng Li's hand. "Don't say I didn't warn the family. I'll come back to see Guan Hua when I have time. Apart from Guan Hua, don't go around barking and snarling at me. I don't have the patience to deal with that."

Sheng Li's eyes widened even more.

At this moment, someone pushed the door open and came out. "Listen to this," someone said. "I told you, during the two days you and your husband were away, she made a huge mess of the house and even injured several people in the family. Everyone in the village can testify to that."

The person who came out of the door was Xu Qiao. Standing there now, hearing Sheng Qian's voice, her bones ached again.

Sheng Qian looked at Xu Qiao with a half-smile: "The villagers know the truth as well as a mirror. Everyone in the village knows about your family forcing me to hand over the house. You can decide how to handle your uncle's family's matter. I have to go back to town."

With that, Sheng Qian ignored the others, took the medicinal herbs, got on her bicycle, and left.

Even after walking away, Luo Minjuan's loud cursing could still be heard. Clearly, Luo Minjuan was on Sheng Qian's side in this matter, and Xu Qiao was being thoroughly berated.

Sheng Li's expression was also not very good.

Sheng Qian returned to town with the medicinal herbs. It was already evening. In winter, it gets dark easily, and night began to fall at just past five o'clock.

As soon as she stopped in front of the door, Sheng Qian heard voices coming from the yard. She knew that only Hou Guifang was at home. Could the voices be from a neighbor visiting?
