Chapter 44 Women and Children

In the middle of the night.

Sheng Qian suddenly reached out and grabbed the hand that was reaching into her pocket.

A woman gave a short, sharp cry.

Sheng Qian opened her bright black eyes and stared at the woman who looked flustered.

The woman was in her early twenties, wearing a patched floral dress.

One of her hands was injured and was hanging limply.

In the dim light, Sheng Qian could see obvious bruises on the woman's neck.

His leg is also slightly lame.

Pressed down by Sheng Qian's strength, the woman's panicked expression revealed a hint of pleading.

She begged Sheng Qian to let her go.

Sheng Qian slowly sat up, her cold eyes staring directly at her: "Stealing?"

"I, I didn't..."

The woman became increasingly flustered.

Sheng Qian looked around and realized why the woman had her eye on her.

She was alone, and she was a woman.

Now she's lying in this quiet corner, a perfect spot to strike.

Sheng Qian did not let go of the woman's hand, but slowly narrowed her eyes, her expression cold and dangerous: "No matter what your reason is, stealing is wrong."

Tears instantly streamed down the woman's face as she said fearfully, "I know I was wrong, I'm sorry, I really had no other choice but to do this..."

Sheng Qian stared at the woman for a while, then finally shook off her hand. "Get lost."

"Thank you! Thank you!"

The woman breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly thanked Sheng Qian.

Sheng Qian rested her head on her hand and continued to sleep.

In the morning, everyone got up and went to the station to wash their faces. Those who brought food ate what they had in their hands, while those who didn't had to run outside the station to buy some steamed buns.

Sheng Qian bought a few steamed buns and went inside to eat. After waiting for a while, the bus to the county town arrived.

Everyone rushed into the car.

After Sheng Qian sat down, she saw the woman from last night, holding a child in one arm and carrying another on her back, quickly running into the car.

Perhaps because I didn't eat breakfast, I was breathing quite heavily.

Sheng Qian glanced at the child she was holding, who was less than two years old, and the one on her back was even smaller.

I'm afraid it won't be more than seven months.

She was carrying a large bag, so she must be from the area near the transit station. Otherwise, why didn't I see her when she came from the town?

The woman sat down, panting heavily, and turned around to see Sheng Qian sitting in the back seat. The woman froze.

Sheng Qian turned her gaze away and looked out the window.

The weather is a bit gloomy today; it looks like it's going to rain.

really.

After walking for a while, a light drizzle began to fall outside.

The child in the car suddenly started crying, clearly extremely hungry.

Feeling the attention of everyone, the woman smiled awkwardly at them, then instinctively took her child and moved to the back seat.

There was no one in the back row, which made it convenient for the woman to breastfeed.

Sheng Qian glanced at the child left on the seat, whose eyes were timidly looking around.

When their eyes met, his gaze involuntarily fell on the buns that Sheng Qian hadn't finished eating.

Sheng Qian ate three, and still had four left in her hand.

She bought seven in one go.

Bring it on the road, so you don't get hungry along the way.

The little girl stood in front of the seat, gripping it tightly with both hands, and almost fell over several times.

Sheng Qian looked at the little girl, whose clothes were a bit dirty, and took out a steamed bun for her.

The little girl's eyes suddenly widened, becoming dark and bright!

Children's eyes are born clean.

She was so hungry she was practically drooling, but she still didn't accept anything from the stranger, clearly because her mother had taught her to do so.

The woman breastfeeding behind also saw the steamed bun that Sheng Qian handed her.

After hesitating for a moment, he nodded to his daughter.

The little girl instantly grabbed the bun from Sheng Qian's hand and started eating it in big bites.

The woman couldn't help but swallow hard when she smelled the steamed buns.

She was also very hungry.

She hasn't eaten anything since yesterday.

The money saved was just enough to take a bus into the county town.

The little girl swallowed half of it, then stopped.

She looked at the woman, seemingly intending to leave the other half of the bun for her to eat.

Sheng Qian stood up and walked towards the back row of seats.

The woman seemed flustered, and her eyes darted around nervously.

Sheng Qian gave her the three steamed buns, then returned to her seat and closed her eyes to rest. She pretended not to hear the woman's choked-up thank you.

She's not a kind person either; this woman even tried to steal my things last night.

Although she didn't steal anything, the woman had already put it in her pocket.

The minibus swayed and rattled all the way into the county bus station.

Sheng Qian got off the car without bringing anything with her.

The county town is much more lively than the small town; right outside the bus station is a bustling food street.

It was lively, but it was still somewhat inferior to the towns of later generations.

Sheng Qian didn't linger. She inquired at a nearby shop and then followed the path to a factory that specialized in processing steel.

There are many students going to and from school in the county town, and some even commute to get off work by bicycle.

The shops everywhere are much better than those in the small town.

There are a few places that, if you don't specifically go inside, you might think are private residences, but they are actually clothing stores or places that sell other things.

Sheng Qian stood outside for a few moments and then left without lingering.

Upon arriving at the steel factory, one can see many workers at work.

They did all manual labor.

There were only a few women on the counting side.

When such a beautiful girl as Sheng Qian suddenly appeared, the men working outside all stopped and looked in her direction.
