Chapter 21 Going to Town

Chapter 21 Going to Town

As dawn broke, Lotus Village had already awakened.

Wan Qiqi carefully climbed out of bed.

When they came out into the courtyard, Wang had already washed the clothes she had changed out of yesterday, and Li Chongniang was already preparing breakfast.

Chen Yongnian had arranged everything and was just waiting for her to get on the oxcart.

Wan Qiqi looked back several times and instructed, "Second brother, let Insect Mother rest more and be careful not to hurt the baby in her belly."

Ancient medical technology and equipment were vastly different from modern ones. She didn't want anything bad to happen to her family, and at least while she was alive, she wanted to manage the family well.

Li Chongniang answered first: "Sister-in-law, I'm fine. I'm used to doing housework. You and my brother should go early and come back early. I'll take care of Pingping and An'an for you."

“Alright.” Wan Qiqi glanced at Wang Shi again. “Mother, you and Chongniang stay at home. Leave the matter of going up the mountain to your second and third brothers. Don’t go deep into the mountains. We’re not short of food at home. Don’t take such a big risk.”

She had just heard Chen Yongnian say last night that someone couldn’t bear the famine and went into the deep mountains, where he was devoured by a hungry tiger. When they were found, all that was left was his blood-stained clothes!

With a trading market, you can get anything you want. Although things on the mountain are valuable, they are not as valuable as life.

Once she finds a way to make money, she won't have to run to the mountains every day!

Sun Qian's oxcart was waiting at the village entrance; for just one coin, one could travel from Lianhua Village to Hefeng Town.

Wan Qiqi paid two coins and got into the oxcart with Chen Yongnian.

After sitting there for a while, the carriage finally set off after a man boarded with his elegantly dressed daughter.

Wan Qiqi looked at the father and daughter with curiosity several times.

The man's name was Zhao Ermao, and he was the younger brother of her next-door neighbor, Zhao Dagen.

"Er Ya, are you going to town with your father?" someone suddenly asked.

"Yes, Father said he'd take me to buy some delicious food!" Er Ya smiled sincerely, and it was clear she was very happy.

The person who asked the question glanced at Zhao Ermao with a meaningful look, but said nothing more.

Wan Qiqi had a vague feeling that something was wrong.

Zhao Ermao's family must be struggling to make ends meet right now, so how could they possibly have the time or inclination to dress up their daughter?

Before she could think about it, a strange, sarcastic voice came to her ears.

"Sister-in-law Chen, where are we going? Aren't we going to Wanjia Village?"

Wan Qiqi stared at him for a long time before finally remembering who he was.

Aunt Dazhuang, the wife of Chen Dazhuang from the same village.

Aunt Dazhuang looked at Wan Qiqi with a disdainful expression.

Everyone in the village knew about Wan Qiqi's big fight with her family and her accidental fall into the river. They couldn't help but feel relieved that such an arrogant person had come to such an end.

They didn't understand why the Chen family didn't take the opportunity to divorce Wan Qiqi and keep her; they were just asking for trouble!

Wan Qiqi tilted her head and smiled: "Aunt Dazhuang and your man are really a family. They always ask me where I'm going. What does it matter to you where I go? My Yongnian doesn't care about me at all!"

When Chen Yongnian heard her say "my Yongnian," a smile appeared on his lips. This was the first time his wife had ever said that.

Aunt Dazhuang's eyebrows shot up when she heard that. "What do you mean by that?"

Wan Qiqi snorted, "If Aunt Dazhuang has the time to meddle in other people's business, she should spend more time on her own man."

In her memory, Chen Dazhuang often pestered her, but the original owner of this body was proud and didn't think much of him.

After a few words, Aunt Dazhuang was so angry she was about to explode, "Stop the car! Stop the car! I want to go back..."

Her noisy and disruptive manner annoyed everyone.

Even Sun Qian, who usually has the best temper, was now dizzy from being nagged. "Aunt Dazhuang, we're still on our way! If you don't go, I'll drop you off, give you your money back, and you can go back by yourself."

He had always heard that Chen's eldest daughter-in-law had a bad temper, but after meeting her today, he thought she was alright, at least much better than Aunt Dazhuang.

Aunt Dazhuang was already angry, and upon hearing this, she vented her anger on Sun Qian: "Sun, what do you mean? You brought me out here, so you have to take me back!"

“Aunt Dazhuang, I’ve already been generous by not charging you for the few miles you’ve traveled. If you want to go back, you can’t expect everyone to go back with you, can you?” Sun Qian said, wiping the sweat from her forehead. She felt that this person was really asking too much of her.

Upon hearing this, the people on the bus started arguing with Aunt Dazhuang.

Wan Qiqi sat in the corner, covering her ears with her hands, looking helpless. She couldn't understand how these people could argue over such trivial matters.

Seeing the carriage stop, seemingly stuck in a rut, Chen Yongnian said, "Aunt Dazhuang, you go back first. If you need anything, I'll bring it back for you. Everyone should hurry back as soon as possible; we have families to take care of!"

He was fine when he didn't speak, but as soon as he did, Aunt Dazhuang pointed at Chen Yongnian and started cursing: "Chen Yongnian, are you even a man? She bullies your mother, she's been flirting with other women outside, and you don't divorce her? You expect her to keep a lover for you outside—"

Before Aunt Dazhuang could finish speaking, she was kicked in the chest, her body swayed, and she fell off the oxcart, landing on the ground and raising a layer of yellow dust.

"Ouch, who dares to kick me!" She touched her pants and looked up to see Wan Qiqi standing on the oxcart, looking down at her.

Wan Qiqi put her hands on her hips and glanced at Da Zhuang's mother. "Do you think I don't know whether he's a man or not?" She tilted her head and said to Sun Qian, who looked surprised, "Let's go to Hefeng Town!"

Before Aunt Dazhuang could say anything, a cloud of dust from the rolling wheels hit her in the face, making her cough for a long time.

Finally, she pointed at the oxcart's retreating figure and shouted, "Wan Qiqi, you just wait!"

No sooner had she finished speaking than a copper coin hit her in the face, spun several times on the uneven ground, and stopped in front of Aunt Dazhuang.
