Chapter 22 Meat Buns and Candy
The vendor glared at Chen Yongnian. "You know that was before. Don't you know what the world is like now? Sell or don't sell, it's up to you. If you don't want to sell, then forget it. Don't get in my way of doing business."
He could tell that Chen Yongnian was an honest man, and he needed to find someone to cheat in order to support his family.
"Boss, this snake of mine is big, can't I sell more?"
The vendor placed his large knife on the chopping board, looking displeased. "Fifty coins are enough for you to buy several kilograms of grain. If you don't want to sell to me, go find someone else!"
Wan Qiqi was displeased by the vendor's tone, but looking at the snakes on the stall, she didn't dare to go near them.
Chen Yongnian frowned, looked at Wan Qiqi again, and finally compromised, buying the snake for 50 coins.
The vendor watched Chen Yongnian's departing figure, a smile playing on his lips.
They're so easy to fool, they made a fortune again!
Wan Qiqi didn't really want to talk. She felt that Chen Yongnian was a bit cowardly and had no ability to argue with anyone.
Although she didn't know the market price, she could tell from the vendor's expression that Chen Yongnian must have sold it at a loss!
Chen Yongnian, holding fifty coins, walked up to Wan Qiqi with a grin. "Come on, let's eat some meat buns!"
He took a few steps forward, then noticed his wife hadn't followed. He turned back and looked at her again. "Wife, what's wrong?"
Wan Qiqi smiled faintly and shook her head. "Let's go!"
"Boss, give me two meat buns!" Chen Yongnian handed over six copper coins.
The steamed bun vendor chuckled as he took the coins, tossed them around a couple of times, and handed two meat buns to Chen Yongnian, saying, "Young man, you're so good to your wife!"
Chen Yongnian held the steamed bun, a smile curving his lips. "She was supposed to marry into a good family, but she ended up marrying me, so naturally I have to treat her well."
Wan Qiqi was taken aback when she saw the meat bun being handed to her.
For a moment, she felt that Chen Yongnian wasn't so bad after all.
In a daze, she understood why the original owner of this body, despite disliking this family and treating her mother-in-law so badly, still had two children with Chen Yongnian!
Although Chen Yongnian may seem dull and slow-witted, his love for his wife is undeniable.
"Careful, it's hot!" Chen Yongnian watched as she took a bite of the bun, swallowed hard, but didn't open her mouth to bite the bun in her hand.
Wan Qiqi was starving and quickly finished the bun. Turning her head, she saw that Chen Yongnian was still holding the bun perfectly in his hand. "Eat up! It tastes alright."
She felt that she must have not eaten meat buns for a long time to find them so delicious.
Back in modern times, she ate steamed buns and soy milk every day until she was almost sick of it!
Chen Yongnian still didn't eat, but instead handed the meat bun back to him, saying, "You eat it!"
Wan Qiqi frowned and moved the bun away. "I'm full. You should eat quickly. We still have a lot of things to carry back later. If you don't eat your fill before you start working, do you expect me to carry them back?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Yongnian immediately stuffed the meat bun into his mouth, chewing as he said, "No, I'll carry it."
Wan Qiqi was relieved to see that he had finished eating the steamed bun.
After thinking about it, I realized I couldn't let Chen Yongnian come with me, otherwise it would be difficult to buy things.
So she said to Chen Yongnian, "Go buy some salt and seasonings, and some vegetable seeds. I'll go buy clothes for Pingping and An'an."
After agreeing to split up, Chen Yongnian left quickly.
Using the original owner's memories, Wan Qiqi first went to a clothing store, and then to a fabric store.
Finally, she came out empty-handed!
At that moment, she suddenly realized that she was truly poor!
A pair of straw sandals costs at least 20 coins, while a child's coarse cloth outfit starts at 300 coins...
Wan Qiqi really wanted to curse these people for raising prices so high!
She stomped to a corner in a huff and opened the system store.
After searching for a while, she finally found children's straw sandals and cloth clothes in the mall, and the two sets together cost only 200 coins.
Fortunately, on her way home with Pingping and An'an yesterday, she stumbled upon a bunch of crabs and sold them for 148 coins, otherwise today would have been a disaster!
Thinking that other things were also expensive, she redeemed a pot, five pounds of brown rice, and half a pound of pork from the mall.
After several rounds of back and forth, Wan Qiqi was very depressed to see that she only had forty coins left in her shop. How did she become poor again?
So her gaze fell on the village woman squatting on the ground to the side.
"How much are your vegetables?" Wan Qiqi squatted down, weighed the wild vegetables in her hand, and found that a bunch weighed about a pound.
"Young lady, these were just dug up from the mountains, they're very fresh. Would you like to buy a bunch? Five coins." The village woman quoted the price somewhat cautiously.
Wan Qiqi frowned slightly. A bunch of purslane could sell for 20 coins a pound in the mall, but here it could only sell for 6 coins.
The village woman thought to herself that she had raised the price too high. In the past, no one would buy it even if it was sold for 2 coins. She only raised the price because of the famine.
There was a baby in the family who wanted to drink rice porridge, otherwise she wouldn't have sold the wild vegetables and kept them to mix with rice bran, which would have been enough to last her for a while!
"How about 4...4 wen?" she stammered, afraid that the other party would refuse her.
Wan Qiqi frowned even more deeply; she hadn't expected the price to keep dropping.
"Young lady, I really can't lower the price any further. Rice is only a dozen coins now. Even if I buy all the wild vegetables, I can only get one pound of rice..."
Wan Qiqi looked at them and said to the village woman, "Six coins a pound, I'll buy them all."
The village woman hadn't expected this outcome. She looked Wan Qiqi up and down for a while and said, "No need, just 4 coins."
She noticed that Wan Qiqi was similar to her; perhaps it was because she had a man in her family who could earn money that she was so generous.
Wan Qiqi didn't want to compete with her, so she bought it back for 5 coins a pound and sold it for 70 coins at the mall.
