Chapter 668 The Lying Man

Chapter 668 The Lying Man

Zhao Yi looked up and met Wan Qiqi's gaze.

He paused for a moment, then sighed, "Erpang, sit down! I'll explain it to you!"

Wan Qiqi nodded and said, "I hope you can tell the truth, so that your nephew can help you!"

Zhao Yi paused for a moment, then nodded and said, "I am Zhao Yi, Zhao Yi from Lianhua Village, Hefeng Town."

Ten years ago, Zhao Yi was known as an honest and hardworking man in Lianhua Village.

Every planting season, he would apply for jobs at wealthy families in the county for a few months to supplement his family income.

However, while he was busy at the Jia family mansion, he learned that his wife was seriously ill.

He asked Master Jia for an advance on money so he could take his wife to the clinic, but was refused and had to continue working.

Later, worried about his wife, he asked Master Jia for permission to resign, but was also refused.

He pondered this all night and decided to go for a walk to clear his head, only to find Master Jia's son stealing money from his own treasury.

He remembered that Master Jia had said his son was a gambler, so he wanted to stop him.

Unexpectedly, the noise attracted people from the neighborhood, and Jia Gongzi turned around and accused him of stealing silver, and even took him to the government office.

Unexpectedly, the officials believed what the Jia family said and had him beaten to death.

Fortunately, he survived and was rescued.

"After I was rescued, I wanted to go back to the village, but I was afraid that the Jia family would come looking for me and implicate my family, so I've been living in hiding ever since..."

After Zhao Yi finished speaking, his eyes reddened and his lips trembled.

"What?! Is that so?" Erpang stood up in shock. "Who on earth presided over this case and made such a wrong judgment?"

"Is it Magistrate Fang?" Wan Qiqi whispered.

Zhao Yi was slightly taken aback upon hearing this, his eyes filled with complex emotions, before he finally nodded after a long while.

"How could Magistrate Fang have made such a wrongful judgment?" Wu Gousheng found it strange.

Not only is this place strange, but the story Zhao Yi tells is also somewhat strange.

“My case was judged by Magistrate Fang when he first arrived in Yunhe County, so perhaps he lacked experience,” Zhao Yi explained.

"That means you suffered for ten years for nothing!" Erpang said, dissatisfied.

“The Jia family is long gone. Even if the case is overturned, who can testify for me? Forget it…” Zhao Yi sighed as he spoke.

"Lord Fang made such a wrong judgment, allowing you to escape for ten years. Don't you hate him?" Wan Qiqi asked.

She stared intently at Zhao Yi, wanting him to look her in the eye when he spoke.

However, Zhao Yi kept avoiding her gaze.

"What good is hatred? Let it be!" Zhao Yi said in a very low voice.

“That’s not necessarily true!” Wan Qiqi tapped her fingertips lightly on the table, a smile playing on her lips, and said, “The one who came to arrest you today is Constable Liang, who works for Magistrate Xie.”

Zhao Yi looked up at Wan Qiqi, his eyes filled with confusion.

Wan Qiqi seized the opportunity and met his gaze.

In an instant, Zhao Yi avoided Wan Qiqi's gaze again.

Wu Gousheng and Erpang were oblivious to what was wrong and were still pondering Wan Qiqi's words.

"Sister Qi, do you mean Lord Xie is looking for evidence that Lord Fang made a wrong judgment?" Wu Gousheng asked.

Upon hearing this, Erpang immediately slapped his thigh and said, "That's right! We can let Lord Xie investigate the case and clear Uncle's name."

"no!"

Zhao Yi's objection was louder and more resolute than any other word he had ever spoken.

Even though Erpang and Wu Gousheng were slow to react, they sensed that something was wrong.

"Uncle, are you... are you hiding something from us?" Erpang calmed down and sat down.

Wu Gousheng sat down and stared at Zhao Yi. "Tell me the truth, or I'll send you to the authorities right now!"

Zhao Yi looked around, and finally looked up at Wan Qiqi.

Although he didn't know the relationship between Erpang, Wu Gousheng and the woman in front of him.

But he could sense that this woman was their leader and also the owner of the restaurant.

He could even sense that this woman had been the one setting the pace all along.

He seems to ask a question every now and then.

In fact, every question hit the nail on the head.

Wan Qiqi did not flinch when she was being scrutinized.

After she had sized him up enough, she said, "Now, tell the truth, or go to the government office and say it. It's up to you!"

As she spoke, she glanced at the windowsill and continued, "My husband is the military officer in charge of arrests. If I don't go back soon, he will come looking for me at the restaurant."

Zhao Yi never expected that the woman in front of him was actually the wife of Bingfang Guan Nian.

But the more he did this, the less he could reveal the secret he kept hidden in his heart.

He didn't know what the consequences would be if he spoke out.

But he cannot be taken to the authorities.

It must not fall into the hands of the county magistrate!

"You have a quarter of an hour," Wan Qiqi said softly, taking a sip of her tea.

After hesitating for a moment, Zhao Yi's eyes hardened.

He looked Wan Qiqi straight in the eye and said, "Shopkeeper, I don't understand what you're saying, but what I'm saying is the truth!"

Wan Qiqi gave a cold laugh and shook her head. "You figure it out yourself!"

After saying that, she got up and sat down by the window.

Seeing this, Erpang became anxious. "Uncle, what do you have to say? Is there anything more important than clearing your name?"

Zhao Yi turned his head to look at Erpang, his eyes dim. "I have nothing to say, it's the truth. Although Lord Fang wronged me, I don't hate him! I don't want to overturn my case either."

"Has someone threatened you?"

This was the only point that Erpang could think of.

"No, don't overthink it." Zhao Yi said, turning to look at Wan Qiqi. "Manager, please let me leave! Even if I get caught, I won't tell you about hiding in the restaurant."

Wan Qiqi turned around, her eyes revealing a hint of disappointment.
