Chapter 98 The Dog Eager to Make a Name for It

Entering the mountains for the first time without any experience in mountain living is an unwise choice to trespass into the territory of these apex predators.

Even with thorough preparation, she still needed to adapt to life in the mountains, familiarize herself with the surrounding terrain, and learn some survival skills before gradually increasing the difficulty.

But you can't immediately challenge the highest level of difficulty.

This demonstrates a lack of responsibility towards one's own life and is a foolish display of ignorance leading to recklessness.

For safety reasons, villagers near the mountains usually stay on the outer perimeter of the mountains when they go up to cut firewood, hunt, or gather wild produce.

No one would spend the night in the mountains.

Only a very few skilled hunters dare to venture deep into the mountains.

This area is located between the inner and outer edges of the mountains, and few people come here.

The journey out of the mountain would take about two or three days, which was neither too far nor too near for Lin Momo, just right.

If she went any further in, she would definitely get lost.

Even now, Lin Momo wouldn't dare to confidently say that she could accurately and without error leave the mountains.

Even though she left many marks along the way, the vegetation and trees were similar everywhere in the mountains, so it would be in vain if she couldn't remember the terrain.

After settling down, Lin Momo planned to familiarize herself with the surrounding terrain and the trails leading out of the mountains, and also to investigate what kind of animals lived nearby.

Are there any wild beasts she needs to avoid?

Lin Momo walked along, her mind preoccupied with her thoughts.

Not far behind.

"Oh no, why did you leave me behind again? No!"

When the puppy realized it had been abandoned again, it panicked, whimpered twice, and then took off chasing after the dog on all three hooves.

Regardless of where they were, it was more important for them to stay with their new owner.

It's quite a feat to have encountered a human in these remote mountains; it'd better stick close to them.

That's right.

Before Lin Momo had even decided to take the puppy in, the puppy, who desperately needed an owner, had already unilaterally declared her its master.

"Hmph, I won't let you get rid of me."

After spending a short time together, the puppy inexplicably felt that its new owner was not simple at all, and that it would definitely get to eat meat if it followed her, so it decided to stick with her even if it meant being lazy.

It's a smart and capable dog, it's just temporarily down on its luck because of a leg injury. Once its leg heals, it will be a majestic dog again, able to do many things for its owner.

Catching a rustling sound behind her, Lin Momo turned her head and saw the little dog, who had just been acting silly, trotting after her again. She couldn't help but chuckle.

"He really is a mangy dog!"

The dog didn't understand what she meant, but seeing that its owner was finally looking at it, it was overjoyed and ran towards her even more excitedly: "Woof woof woof—"

A person and a dog walked and stopped intermittently.

As dusk approached, Lin Momo arrived at a fairly flat and open area, intending to rest there and see if the terrain met her requirements.

To everyone's surprise, the little dog suddenly became excited upon arriving here and ran tirelessly in one direction.

This reaction was as if they had entered its territory.

After running a short distance, seeing that its owner, Lin Momo, hadn't followed, it turned back, barked at her twice, and then grabbed her trouser leg and pulled her forward relentlessly.

Seemingly thinking that its owner should understand its meaning, the puppy let go of its mouth and ran forward again.

Where do you want to take me?

The meaning conveyed by this series of body language was crystal clear; Lin Momo wasn't blind, so how could she not understand it?

Driven by curiosity, she hesitated for a moment before following them.

The puppy turned around to make sure its owner was behind it, then confidently led the way.

Before long, Lin Momo followed the dog through a maze of twists and turns until she arrived at the front of a low cave.

The entrance to the cave was not obvious because it was covered by grass and trees. It was only when you got closer that you noticed it. Standing outside the cave and peeking inside, it was only about five or six meters deep and less than two meters high.

Lin Momo felt a little disappointed; no one could live here!

Did the dog lead her on a treasure hunt?

Lin Momo's mind raced, and then she belatedly realized, "Where did the little yellow dog go?"

Wait, I clearly saw it go in just now!

He quickly called out, "Little Huang! Are you in there?"

"Woof woof woof—"

She was met with a muffled bark, the sound seemingly coming from the depths of a cave.

Immediately, Lin Momo couldn't help but wonder, "Could this be a cave within a cave?"

That's what she thought, but she was a little scared and didn't dare to go in and find out.

The cave was pitch black, and it was impossible to tell if there were any other creatures inside. Even if there were no wild beasts like tigers or leopards, there would most likely be bats or other creatures that were used to dark environments.

Before she could continue scaring herself, the little yellow dog came running out to find her.

The puppy stood in the hole and barked twice at Lin.

The expression and tone seemed to say, "Don't be afraid, Master, come in quickly! I'll take you to a wonderful place! You'll love it!"

This is probably what Lin Momo really thinks.

After searching for so long without finding a suitable place to live, she subconsciously placed her hopes on the dog, who knew this mountain better than she did.

After hesitating for a moment, Lin Mo made up her mind and decided to go in and see if the little dog would really bring her a surprise.

However, she decided to arm herself first before going in.

This makes me feel safer.

In the blink of an eye, Lin Momo held a rechargeable high-powered flashlight in her left hand and a loaded tranquilizer gun in her right hand, and took a deep breath.

Only then did he step into the cave.

The dog looked at her and didn't understand why she looked so nervous. This wasn't some dangerous place.

It shook its tail helplessly and ran back into the cave.

It usually gets dark early in the mountains, and it's only a little past five o'clock, but it's already getting dark.

After Lin Momo entered the cave and turned into another cave, the already dim light became even dimmer, which is when the advantage of a flashlight became apparent.

Under the strong light, everything inside the cave was clearly visible.

This is a naturally formed cave, varying in width, with the narrowest part being four or five meters wide and quite deep. After walking for about two or three minutes, a faint light shone through the cave wall ahead.

That appears to be an exit.

Sure enough, the yellow dog leading the way wobbled and turned toward the light.

Lin Momo breathed a sigh of relief.

She thought it would take a long time to walk, but she didn't expect to arrive at the exit so quickly. So she followed closely behind without saying a word, eager to go and find out what was going on.

I wonder where the exit of this cave leads?

What kind of place would that be?
