Chapter 99: How well do they enjoy life?

The moment Lin Momo stepped out of the cave, she fell in love with the place at first sight.

This place has naturally formed a semi-enclosed environment with three sides of huge rock cliffs and one side of a precipice, which is both isolated from the world and allows you to stand on the edge of the cliff and enjoy a panoramic view of the scenery below.

It is truly an excellent place to live in seclusion.

I love it!

Lin Momo jumped up and down with joy.

Wait! What did she just see?

Just as she leaped into the air, her gaze inadvertently pierced through the bare trees and caught a glimpse of a house, and her exhilarating mood instantly plummeted.

So someone's already living here!

Sigh, I made her get all excited for nothing.

As Lin Momo's emotions were fluctuating wildly, like she was on a rollercoaster, the dog in front of her had already happily run towards the small courtyard.

Seeing that its owner wasn't following, it stopped, turned its head, and barked twice at her, signaling to catch up.

Since someone had already taken this place, Lin Momo decided to leave before the owner noticed her intrusion.

Unfortunately, the silly dog, as if afraid of being discovered, started barking. Lin Momo was startled and hurriedly made a shushing gesture to the dog, whispering:

"Shh—, stop calling, Little Yellow, come back quickly!"

As he spoke, he kept waving at it.

The little yellow dog was confused; why wasn't its owner leaving?

Turning its head to look at the small courtyard of the mansion enclosed by a fence not far away, and then turning its head to look at its owner who refused to move, the dog seemed to be having a hard time choosing between the two.

However, the dog soon abandoned its owner and went to the small yard, wagging its tail and running forward without hesitation.

Before long, it disappeared into the withered grass.

Before leaving, it barked twice at its owner, seemingly still stubbornly trying to persuade Lin Momo to come along.

However, Lin Momo, who had unintentionally trespassed on someone else's territory, was terrified. Her feet seemed to be nailed to the ground, and she cried out in alarm:

"Little Huang, where are you going? Come back quickly!"

After waiting for a long time without anyone coming out, Lin Momo cautiously took a few steps forward, bypassed a low peach grove that resembled a screen wall, and suddenly found herself in a bright and open space.

What comes into view is a relatively flat valley slope, about twenty or thirty acres in size.

There are houses, bamboo fences, fields, pavilions, ponds, flowers, trees and shrubs, which show that they have been carefully maintained, as if a refined hermit once lived there.

The reason I say I stayed here is because the place is now overgrown with weeds and completely desolate.

Clearly, the hermit who used to live here has been gone for a very long time.

Recalling the historical anecdote of the "shortcut to Zhongnan Mountain," Lin Momo couldn't help but wonder if the person who had previously lived in seclusion here was an ambitious scholar who only saw this place as a stepping stone for advancement.

When the time was right, he gladly went to court to serve as an official.

Or perhaps, that person stayed here for too long, couldn't stand the loneliness, and went down the mountain.

Either way, she's gotten off easy this time.

Lin Momo's heart, which had been hanging in mid-air, finally settled down.

Glancing at the dog frolicking ahead, she couldn't help but wonder: Could that person be the owner of this yellow dog?

If a natural disaster occurs in the future and the world descends into chaos, will he return here?

Lin Momo thought to herself as she walked inside.

Then the puppy turned around and ran back, circling around her feet in a fawning manner.

Lin thought to herself, "Never mind!"

Even if one day the world falls into chaos and people suffer, the lives of the wealthy will not be much worse, and they will not necessarily be willing to return to the mountains to live a secluded and hard life of farming.

This place is currently unclaimed; whoever discovers it can keep it.

Let's talk about the future when it comes.

After figuring it out, Lin Momo's mood immediately soared.

I jogged through the makeshift wooden gate and entered the courtyard, where a path paved with fine sand led directly to the house entrance.

There are cultivated gardens on both sides, now covered with withered branches and fallen leaves, but the chrysanthemums that have been frosted still stubbornly cling to their branches.

Besides the flowers and plants, there were also a few scattered vegetable seedlings growing inside, which surprisingly retained some greenery in this early winter season.

"Maybe next spring, a few vegetables will sprout in the yard."

Lin murmured to herself, her face filled with longing.

"Woof—" the little dog responded appropriately.

"Thump~ thump~ thump"

From the stone wall on one side, a faint gurgling sound of water could be heard, like a spring. Judging from the sound, the flow rate must be quite large, more than enough to meet daily needs.

"This place is absolutely amazing!" Lin Momo liked it more and more as she looked at it.

Hopefully, this spring won't freeze in the harsh winter and will continue to flow, and it won't dry up even in years of severe drought; that would be perfect.

Looking at the spring not far away, Lin Momo couldn't help but feel happy, but she lifted her foot and walked towards the wooden house.

She was clearly more interested in the house, which was different from the current architectural style, than in the spring water.

The three main rooms were built of wood and stone and covered with blue tiles; the left and right wing rooms were not so elaborate, they were pure wood structures, but they were also covered with blue tiles; there was also a chicken coop in the corner.

Perhaps to prevent dampness, the foundation of the main house was raised, and one must first step up three steps in front of the door to enter the house; a covered walkway with eaves was also built around the outside of the house.

It seems that it was designed so that the owner could enjoy the scenery in the valley from every angle, whether it was sunny or rainy.

The previous owner of this place must have really known how to enjoy life!

Lin Momo was deeply impressed and then reflected on herself: "Hmm, I should learn from her in the future."

This house must have been built quite a few years ago; grass has grown on the roof tiles, giving it an unexpected touch of wildness.

It's just unknown whether the grass seeds were brought by the wind or accidentally scattered by a bird flying overhead.

Pushing open the two half-closed, peeling red-lacquered doors, one enters a main room. The room is fully furnished, but all chairs are covered in a thick layer of dust.

The calligraphy and painting in the central hall were gone, leaving only a faint mark. Looking down, one could see that it had fallen to the ground.

If you want to live in this house, you absolutely have to clean it thoroughly.

At this moment, the sun had set, and the sky had become dark.

Lin Momo had quite a few lighting devices, but she didn't want to mess around with them late at night. After all, she was new to the place and not familiar with the house, so she felt a little uneasy.

Besides, she was exhausted after walking all day, and she still needed to give the puppy a bath and check its injured leg that evening.

Anyway, she's already found a place to stay, and she's not exactly homeless, so there's no need to rush. She can settle in slowly tomorrow.

After closing the door, Lin Momo called the puppy into the space.
