Chapter 252 Wounded

Shen Miao breathed a sigh of relief and saw a path appear in front of her. She lifted her foot to walk on it.

Suddenly a gust of wind came from behind. Shen Miao reacted quickly, dodging to the side and then striking back. Her hand hit the thing, and she felt a cold sensation.

Upon closer inspection, what the hell was this? It was completely green and as thin as a bamboo pole. No, to be precise, it was a bamboo pole with two heads on top of it.

Thinking about where they were now, Shen Miao blurted out, "You're a bamboo beast, and you used an illusion just now?"

The bamboo beast chuckled, not denying it, but said, "Who told you to trespass on my territory? Anyone who enters my territory will eventually become my food, and you are no exception."

Despite its thin appearance, this bamboo beast was incredibly fast, and it even mobilized the surrounding bamboo to attack Shen Miao.

Shen Miao's spiritual power has been increasing rapidly recently, and dealing with a small bamboo beast is no problem at all. She even broke through the opponent's most proud illusion, so she didn't take the opponent's little skill seriously at all.

In just a few dozen moves, the bamboo beast's heart was pierced by Shen Miao's spiritual power, causing it to vomit blood and collapse to the ground.

Seeing that the bamboo beasts were all dead, the other bamboos immediately shrank back obediently. Shen Miao glanced at the bamboos that were pretending to be dead, but ignored them; they were not her target.

She stepped forward, bent down, and felt around inside the bamboo beast for a while to see if there was any beast crystal. She didn't find any beast crystal, but she did find a hand.

Shen Miao was immediately startled and cut open the bamboo beast's belly, revealing an intact corpse.

Shen Miao was so surprised she couldn't speak.

This bamboo beast looks so thin, yet it swallowed a person whole.

She turned the person over and saw a familiar face. Shen Miao's expression changed from shock to bewilderment.

"Nine, Nine Infants?"

That face was extremely similar to Jiu Ying's. Having spent so much time together, Shen Miao couldn't possibly mistake it. Overwhelmed with grief, she realized that she had only been a step too slow, and now she was forever separated from Jiu Ying.

Shen Miao didn't care that the corpse was covered in slime, and she lay on it and wailed loudly.

She was so engrossed in crying that she didn't notice a person quietly emerging from the bamboo grove. The person was tall and handsome, with a small bundle slung over his shoulder.

If it wasn't Jiuying who ran away from home, then who was it?

Jiuying watched quietly as Shen Miao lay on what she perceived as her "corpse" and cried, her face showing restraint and struggle. She took a small step forward, wanting to get closer, but ultimately held back because of something she was worried about.

He couldn't get close to her. Now that he was out, he couldn't appear in front of her again. Otherwise, what would be the point of him running away from home?

Let her pretend she's dead.

Jiuying thought sadly, leaning against a bamboo stalk as thick as a palm, staring blankly at the sky.

Shen Miao cried for a while, then took a stone spear and dug a hole nearby to properly bury Jiu Ying's body.

Regardless of the circumstances, we had known each other for a while, and now that he's dead, he should be laid to rest.

As they were burying her, Shen Miao burst into tears again. She cried, "Why were you so foolish? No one in the family was afraid of you. Everyone wanted to help you, but you left without a word. Now look what's happened! The children are still waiting for their Uncle Jiuying. How am I supposed to go back and explain this to them?!"

While he was still okay, upon hearing Shen Miao's words, he thought of his several adorable children who relied on and trusted him so much. Knowing that he was "dead" would surely make them sad, and for a moment, Jiu Ying was also overwhelmed with grief.

Fearing he would lose his composure and be discovered by Shen Miao, he turned and staggered away.

As she was leaving, she accidentally stepped on a tree branch. Shen Miao heard the noise and looked over, only to see a person who looked very similar to Jiu Ying leaving in a hurry.

She was filled with doubt and confusion. She looked at the grave she had built with her own hands, then at the direction where the figure had disappeared. She was completely bewildered.

What's going on? Why did she see another Nine-Headed Serpent?

No, no, Shen Miao tried his best to calm himself down. Jiuying's martial arts level was very high. Even if he couldn't recognize that it was an illusion, he would never be killed by a bamboo beast, much less be swallowed by it.

So actually, she was the one who made a mistake from the beginning, and Jiu Ying was fine at all!

This guess rekindled Shen Miao's hope. Without thinking, she chased after Jiu Ying in the direction he had gone, shouting, "Jiu Ying, I see you! Stop hiding! Stop right there!"

The Nine-Headed Serpent ran even faster.

As the two gradually entered the dense forest, the strange beasts, hearing the commotion, began to stir.

Nine-Headed Serpent raised its hand and unleashed a burst of spiritual energy, causing the strange beast to howl and flee in panic.

Along the way, Jiuying dealt with many strange beasts, which saved Shen Miao, who was following behind, a lot of trouble. However, because of fighting with the strange beasts, Jiuying's speed could not be increased.

She was always being followed by Shen Miao from a distance.

Jiuying was somewhat agitated and fought even harder against the strange beasts. Then he encountered a high-level strange beast, and Jiuying, still angry, went forward to fight.

This advanced beast was very intelligent. It could tell that Jiuying was emotionally unstable, so it provoked Jiuying repeatedly without making a move. This only fueled Jiuying's anger to the maximum, and then it slashed Jiuying with its claws, injuring it.

However, it didn't get away with it either; it was injured by the Nine-Headed Serpent's spiritual power and managed to get up and run away.

Jiuying clutched her wound as she traversed the complex forest, the pain intense, with Shenmiao's shouts following her like a shadow.

Finally, Jiuying stopped and glared at Shen Miao who was chasing after her. Her eyes were dark and devoid of any warmth, replaced by unfamiliarity and rejection.

Shen Miao froze, her voice trembling as she said, "Jiuying, you, how did you get injured? Let me see your wound, okay?"

"Get lost!" Jiuying uttered impatiently, his brows furrowed into a knot.

Shen Miao was incredulous. "What did you say?"

Jiuying said irritably, "I told you to leave, didn't you hear me? I already told you not to come looking for me, why did you still come?!"

Shen Miao looked at him quietly without saying a word.

At first, she was indeed angry. Jiuying had left without saying goodbye and had used such a harsh tone on her for the first time, so she was naturally uncomfortable.

But she quickly realized that Jiuying was trying to force her to leave and ignore him using this method.

But she came out to find Jiuying, so how could she not bring him back?

Seeing that she remained silent, Jiu Ying felt a little uneasy. His wound was in great pain, and he hadn't had time to tend to it. Now, the area was almost numb with pain.

The hand covering the wound was covered in blood.

Jiuying shifted to a reclining position, pulling at her wound and letting out a muffled groan. Shen Miao finally moved, "Let me see your wound, Jiuying. Can we not talk about that now? Your injury is so serious; it needs immediate treatment, otherwise it will get infected."
