After finishing his meal, Xue Xiaoniu reluctantly went to wash the dishes under the watchful eyes of Xue Daniu and Xue Erniu.
Ah Li wanted to move, but when she looked up, she found Xue Daniu staring at her, so she dared not move.
This person looks very serious when they're not speaking.
At this moment, Xue Erniu raised his hand and waved it in front of Ali, attracting Ali's attention. He gestured and asked, "Where are you going next?"
Ah Li shook her head. She hadn't thought it through either. She just wanted to run as far away as possible, much farther away.
"Then stay here and be our shared wife. Of course, it's fake; we won't do anything to you."
Xue Erniu spoke very slowly, so that Ali could see what he was saying.
Xue Xiaoniu was washing dishes when he heard this. He curled his lips into a smile. "See? Even the powerful officials who strategize in the court don't want to cook for themselves anymore."
Putting everything else aside, the rice, stir-fried dishes, and soup this person cooks taste pretty good.
Ah Li looked at Xue Erniu quietly. Was this man serious?
But why?
Xue Erniu didn't urge Ali, but instead said to Xue Daniu, "Should we leave her here and have her stay in the same room?"
They only have one house to live in now; the two small houses on either side are either filled with miscellaneous items, have cracked walls, or have leaky roofs.
"Definitely."
Before Xue Daniu could answer, Xue Xiaoniu chimed in, walking over to Ali and saying, "Otherwise, why would we say she's our shared wife?"
Xue Erniu then looked at Xue Xiaoniu and said, "I suspect you're just bored. Since you're so afraid of doing anything, you might as well hire a maid from your house to serve you."
Xue Xiaoniu rolled his eyes. "If you call your mother over here, are you going to call her 'Mom'?"
Xue Daniu and Xue Erniu fell silent instantly; there was no way they would call out that.
Besides, no matter whose family they are, their demeanor is different from the people in this village, and they will feel out of place.
The three of them even disguised themselves, looking completely ordinary.
Before Ah Li could make up her mind, Xue Xiaoniu sat down next to her and waved his hand in front of her. When Ah Li looked at him, he said, "We're here to discuss this with you. If you don't cooperate, we'll tie you up."
Xue Daniu kicked Xue Xiaoniu, "Don't scare her."
Ah Li noticed Xue Daniu's actions, then looked at Xue Xiaoniu and Xue Erniu, and slowly nodded.
She doesn't know where to go now, so she'll just stay here for now.
Xue Xiaoniu said, "I remember, I haven't delivered the clothes I was going to give to the little princess yesterday yet. Let's give them to this person to wear first."
Xue Daniu and Xue Erniu noticed that Ali was wearing clothes with many patches and that they were a bit thin, but they didn't stop Xue Xiaoniu.
Xue Xiaoniu took out the clothes and patiently told Ali that these were her clothes, and that there was a place to take a shower in a small cubicle over there, where she could go and shower first.
Ah Li carefully touched the clothes Xue Xiaoniu had given her, looking at him gratefully and saying thank you.
Xue Xiaoniu said it was all a small matter. Seeing that Ali could carry the water in by herself, he didn't help her. Instead, he went to find Xue Daniu and Xue Erniu.
Xue Daniu was tidying up the house, Xue Erniu moved his books to another place, and Xue Xiaoniu hugged his quilt, looked at the kang (a heated brick bed), and said, "Actually, the three of us can lie down in this space."
Xue Erniu placed the two planks together, pressed them down with his hand, and there wasn't a sound. He said, "The son of a high-ranking official has taken a fancy to a little village girl?"
"Don't talk nonsense."
Xue Xiaoniu retorted, but when he heard a sound outside, he went out.
Ah Li was just coming out carrying the water she had used to wash her hair, and her face, which had been dirty, was now clean.
Xue Xiaoniu didn't know why he came out to check as soon as he heard the noise, but he still came out.
Under the cover of night, Ah Li's face was fair and her appearance was decent. The dark dress she wore looked a bit loose on her, and you could see her fair neck and shoulders.
Ah Li noticed someone standing not far away. She quickly looked over and saw that it was Xue Xiaoniu. She rarely showed a smile.
Xue Xiaoniu placed his hand on his chest; this person didn't actually look like a refugee.
Seeing that Xue Xiaoniu didn't speak and didn't seem to want to talk to her, Ali poured out the water and went into the kitchen.
Xue Xiaoniu followed Ali into the kitchen and saw Ali smearing ash on her face, neck, and exposed areas.
What are you doing?
Xue Xiaoniu quickly went over and grabbed Ali's hand. "You're so fair and pretty, why did you paint yourself black?"
Ahri was taken aback; this person seemed to be in a great hurry.
Seeing that Ali didn't gesture, Xue Xiaoniu stood in front of Ali and asked again, "Why did you paint yourself all dirty?"
Ahri gestured, indicating that she needed to protect herself.
The original owner always wanted to escape because sometimes when she took a shower, her family would openly stand at the front door and watch her.
They took advantage of her deafness and would push open the door or open the window to watch her shower.
When she realized what was happening and turned around, they were just standing there casually, not avoiding her at all, as if it were perfectly normal.
Sometimes, even when she was asleep, they would break down the door and come in to lie down with her.
The original owner didn't know if they did anything to her while she was asleep, but there was something strange about her.
Those people were no longer her family; they were a bunch of devils.
Xue Xiaoniu understood Ah Li's gestures, and he didn't stop her. The way she had just acted, she did need to put on some disguise to protect herself.
