Yesterday, because of Jin Bowen, Xiang Wanwan didn't have a good time fishing. Today, with her new fishing rod, she's eager to try it out again.
In the afternoon, she and Lu Jingnian took the two fishing rods they had just made and headed towards the dock from yesterday.
Sister Wang was going to plant vegetables in the yard today, so she wouldn't be going with them.
When they arrived at the dock, because Lu Jingnian was there today, she didn't have to do any of the work like baiting the fish or catching them.
Lu Jingnian voluntarily took care of everything.
What surprised her even more was that Lu Jingnian was actually quite good at fishing.
As soon as he cast his fishing hook, the float began to move quite a bit.
He then reeled in the line and played the fish.
Lu Jingnian's movements as he fished were very skillful, clearly showing he was an expert.
In just a few minutes, the fish was exhausted.
Then, with another pull, a giant sea carp emerged from the sea.
Xiang Wanwan immediately grabbed the net and caught the large carp, which weighed over fifteen pounds.
She was somewhat surprised.
This guy is incredibly lucky to have caught a 15-pound sea carp on his very first cast!
"Lu Jingnian, you used to go fishing quite a bit, didn't you?"
Lu Jingnian continued baiting and casting the hook, completing the movements in one smooth motion.
"When we first came here, no one had anything to eat, so we could only catch fish to eat."
"You'll get the hang of it over time."
I see.
She said it herself, you can't be this skilled at playing a fish without several years of fishing experience.
However, Lu Jingnian said that there was no food when she first arrived, which made her feel a little sentimental.
The construction of this godforsaken place was probably all done bit by bit by the people in their army!
Although it is still quite backward, the fact that it has become what it is today shows that a lot of effort has been put in.
This is no different from exile in ancient times.
She looked up and asked tentatively, "Lu Jingnian, have you never tried growing rice on the island?"
"Even if we don't grow rice, we can grow wheat or corn, and that way we can be self-sufficient and won't have to wait for supplies from outside every month."
Lu Jingnian raised his head and stared at her, then spoke softly after a moment:
“This is an island, with only saltwater, so none of the things you mentioned can be grown here.”
Xiang Wanwan was stunned.
Damn, she forgot about that.
No wonder Lu Jingnian looked at her like she was an idiot just now.
She can grow vegetables with well water because well water has a low salt content, so growing vegetables is not a big problem.
However, this well water is, after all, everyone's drinking water, and it would be difficult to use it for growing crops on a large scale.
Moreover, these crops have extremely poor salt tolerance. If they are irrigated with seawater, the salt will damage their root system, hinder their growth, and make it impossible for them to grow tall.
However, she remembered that seawater rice has been cultivated in modern times.
It seems that diluted seawater is used to gradually make rice tolerant of salt, thus enabling the growth of seawater rice.
However, diluting seawater for irrigation is a huge undertaking, and given the current state of the islands, it's simply not feasible.
She seemed to have seen a post about some kind of amazing device that desalinates seawater, using the sun to collect fresh water.
When she has time, she'll study it carefully. If it really works, maybe she'll be able to grow rice and corn.
She was so engrossed in her own thoughts that she didn't notice the movement of the fishing rod in her hand.
Lu Jingnian noticed it and pointed out, "It's taken the bait."
Xiang Wanwan suddenly realized what was happening and immediately reeled in her line, effortlessly catching a small grouper.
The small grouper weighed only four or five ounces, which was negligible compared to Lu Jingnian's large sea carp.
What's going on today?
Did all these fish go and bite Lu Jingnian's hook?
As she was thinking, Lu Jingnian's fishing rod moved again. (This chapter has been finished. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
