Chapter 303 Going to the Post Station

Chapter 303 Going to the Post Station

Before they set off, Wang Dahu drew a simple map for them. Along the way, they would ask people they met, so they were lucky enough not to go the wrong way.

However, the road conditions were bad and they were not driving fast. It took them three days to reach Nanwu County.

It was not yet noon when they arrived in Nanwu County.

Ye Yun'an looked at the bustling crowd outside through the window and couldn't help but beg Ye Mingzhu: "Sister, we have been gone for several days. Can we go downstairs and buy some food?"

Ye Mingzhu's whole body ached from sitting in the carriage. She pulled aside the curtain and asked Uncle Yan outside, "Uncle Yan, how far are we from home?"

Uncle Yan vaguely heard the brother and sister talking outside. He roughly calculated that they should be able to stay here for two hours.

During these few days, they only stayed in a farmer's house for one night, and slept in dilapidated temples or in the wild at other times. Although they had various dry foods, they were not as delicious as freshly made ones.

"The time is not too tight. There is still time to have a meal and do some shopping."

As soon as Uncle Yan finished speaking, Ye Yun'an began to cheer.

"That's great, sister. Uncle Yan said that when we have time, let's go to the restaurant for a meal. I've lost a lot of weight these past few days."

Ye Mingzhu couldn't help laughing at his funny look: "Okay, then let's find a restaurant to eat, and then go to the post station to mail the letter, but we can't delay any longer."

Ye Yun'an nodded continuously and urged Uncle Yan: "Uncle Yan, let's go eat first."

Uncle Yan looked at the crowd around him and said, "I'll go ask around first."

Ye Mingzhu also noticed that there were many people on the street, and she stopped Ye Yun'an who was about to go down: "Yun'an, don't move for now, wait until Uncle Yan comes back."

Uncle Yan returned quickly: "There is a temple fair in Nanwu County today. In addition to people from the county town, many people from the villages and towns below are also here."

Ye Yun'an's eyes lit up: "Temple fairs, I love temple fairs the most."

Ye Mingzhu frowned. Temple fairs in ancient times were usually places where accidents occurred frequently. If nothing happened, it would not seem like a temple fair.

When Yu Jiaming first took office, he held a temple fair, but someone died.

She looked down at Ye Yun'an: "Yun'an, we have so many things in the car, it's not convenient to go to the temple fair. Can we buy you some more food after dinner?"

Ye Yun'an's eyes were filled with longing, but he was an obedient child. He knew his sister must have a reason for saying that, so he nodded regretfully: "Okay then."

Uncle Yan soothed him, "Yun'an, there are too many people here, and we're unfamiliar with the place. If something happens, it'll be hard to resolve. If you want to visit the temple fair, I'll definitely take you there when our county holds one next time."

Ye Yun'an nodded again: "Uncle Yan, I understand. Let's go eat first."

Uncle Yan didn't expect the brother and sister to be so sensible. He lowered the curtain and took them to a two-story restaurant. The restaurant was at the outermost edge of a wide street, some distance away from the temple fair.

Uncle Yan parked the carriage in front of the restaurant, and Ye Yun'an was the first to jump out: "Oh, finally I can get out of the carriage."

Ye Mingzhu then got out of the carriage and looked at him with some amusement: "How about you walk and we take the carriage later."

"No, no, no, it's nice to ride in a carriage." Ye Yun'an shook his head like a rattle. No matter how tiring it was to ride in a carriage, it was much better than walking.

Uncle Yan listened to the siblings' bickering with a smile on his face. He waited until they were about to enter the house before saying, "Mingzhu, we have a lot of stuff in the car. I'll watch over it here. You guys can go in and eat."

Ye Mingzhu frowned: "Uncle Yan, how can I let you watch the carriage? We are having dinner. Let's eat together."

The waiter who was standing at the door to greet the guests walked over to the carriage and said, "Sir, just go and have your meal. I'll take the horse to the backyard and feed it and give it some water."

Uncle Yan smiled and refused: "I'm not very hungry yet, just bring me some after you finish eating."

Ye Mingzhu opened her mouth and closed it again. She knew that Uncle Yan's worries were justified. After all, this was an unfamiliar city and there were quite a few boxes on their carriage.

If someone were to take a risk and steal their things, even if they caused trouble for the restaurant, they might not be able to get the things back.

In a few breaths, she had come up with a plan. She looked at the waiter standing next to Uncle Yan and said, "Waiter, is there any space next to the stable where we can set up a table?"

The waiter's eyes were filled with astonishment, but he quickly reacted: "There's room, there's room. I'll have someone set up a table for you."

Ye Mingzhu looked at Uncle Yan: "Uncle Yan, don't worry now. It's safer for the two of us to watch over the carriage with you."

Uncle Yan originally wanted them to eat inside without worry, but Ye Yun'an clapped his hands and said, "I've never eaten next to a stable."

Uncle Yan swallowed what he wanted to say and asked Ye Mingzhu and Ye Yun'an to order the dishes. He followed the waiter to the backyard first.

Ye Mingzhu ordered four dishes and a soup, as well as some cooked food, and asked the shopkeeper to pack it up. After they finished their meal, they took it away.

When the shopkeeper learned that they were going to eat next to the stables, he didn't show any surprise. Instead, he smiled and said, "I've had the table moved over there and put a heater in. I hope it won't be so cold."

Ye Mingzhu thanked the shopkeeper and took Ye Yun'an to the backyard.

I don’t know if it’s because there’s a temple fair in the county town, but there aren’t many people eating in the restaurant, and only their carriage is leisurely eating hay in the stable.

Next to the stable, there is a square table with a small heater next to it. Although it is outside, it doesn’t feel cold sitting at the table.

They had only been sitting down for a while when the waiter brought the food over and a pot of hot tea: "Sir, please enjoy your meal."

The three of them raised their chopsticks and reached for their favorite dishes.

Uncle Yan finished eating quickly, then brought a bucket of water to Ma, watched him drink it, and checked the things in the car. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found nothing wrong.

Ye Mingzhu asked the waiter to take away the dishes the three people had used, and then borrowed pen, ink, paper and inkstone, and began to write a letter to Jian Pingping.

She did not write to Wang Dahu. She had to wait until the problem on Wang Dahu's side was resolved and he wrote to her before the two sides could contact each other again.

Ye Mingzhu finished writing and checked it again. When she felt that there was no problem, she stood up and said, "Let's go to the post station."

When the waiter came to collect the pens and ink, he kindly reminded them, "There's a temple fair not far from the post station. I'm afraid your carriage won't be able to get through."

Ye Mingzhu frowned and carefully inquired about the location of the post station. It was just to the north of the crowd they had just seen. Although there was a small alley that could lead to the passage, it was only for people to pass through, and carriages definitely could not pass through.

Uncle Yan wanted to mail the letter for her, but he was worried that it was not safe for them to guard the carriage. In the end, Ye Mingzhu decided to mail the letter herself.

She gave the waiter one or two taels of silver and asked him to take her there. The waiter happily asked for leave from the shopkeeper.

Ye Yun'an said that he knew martial arts and could protect his sister, and he also wanted to go with them. Uncle Yan nodded slightly and agreed.

The two men followed the waiter, went around the alley, and put the letter at the post station.

As soon as he walked out of the post station, a boy bumped into Ye Mingzhu's arms.
