Chapter 353 A Glimpse of Hope

Chapter 353 A Glimpse of Hope

Ye Mingzhu gave her a reproachful look: "How can you say that about my mother?"

Jiang Hongyu shook the letter in his hand: "You don't know, when I was a child, my mother treated my second uncle the same way."

"I remember that if my second uncle said something that offended my mother, she wouldn't give him any face at all and would just talk back. So the person my second uncle was most afraid of wasn't my eldest uncle, but my mother."

"It's just that as I grew older, my mother rarely returned to her parents' home. I've only seen things like that a few times."

When Jiang Hongyu finished speaking, his voice became lower and lower. He only now realized that his mother was afraid that he would know his life experience.

"Your mother has been a girl with a bad temper since she was young." Uncle Yan walked in from outside the hanging flower gate and added.

"I wasn't eavesdropping. I just happened to be walking nearby and heard what you two were talking about," Uncle Yan explained.

Ye Mingzhu glanced outside the hanging flower gate, which was the junction of the inner and outer courtyards.

Although they treated Uncle Yan as their own uncle, they were not related by blood after all, so Uncle Yan only lived in the front yard and rarely went to the back yard.

Aunt Jiang has been ill recently, and this is not the first time she has seen Uncle Yan outside the Chuihua Gate.

Uncle Yan must be worried about God Jiang's condition.

Sure enough, Uncle Yan hesitated for a moment and asked, "Hongyu, how is your mother's illness?"

"I'm much better now. I just need to take a few more doses of medicine and I'll be fine." Jiang Hongyu's expression relaxed.

"That's good, that's good." Uncle Yan nodded.

Jiang Hongyu was waiting to send the letter, but Uncle Yan pulled him aside to talk about Ye Yunan and Ludou's studies, and looked at Ye Mingzhu from time to time.

Ye Mingzhu guessed that Uncle Yan had something to say to Jiang Hongyu.

She found an excuse and retreated.

Jiang Hongyu also reacted and looked at Uncle Yan quietly.

Uncle Yan's face flushed for a moment. He looked away and coughed, "Hongyu, I've taught you martial arts for many years. You should know that I'm quite good at it."

Jiang Hongyu nodded.

"Although I'm not working in the capital, I still have some business and I have enough money."

Jiang Hongyu nodded again.

"I've been single for many years, so I'm pretty clean."

Jiang Hongyu nodded.

"I, I want to marry your mother, do you think it's okay?"

Jiang Hongyu: ...he nodded halfway, then suddenly looked up at Uncle Yan.

Uncle Yan continued, "I've been alone for so many years, it doesn't really matter anymore, but this time your mother is sick, and I don't even have the qualifications to take care of her by her bedside."

"I'm getting older, and I just want to be with her. Hongyu, is that okay with you?"

Jiang Hongyu's expression kept changing, and he finally said, "Uncle Yan, my mother is old and I'm afraid she can't have children."

Uncle Yan's eyes lit up and he said quickly, "I don't need her to give birth to a child. I've watched you grow up since you were a child, just like my own child."

Jiang Hongyu: ...I haven’t agreed yet.

"From now on, your mother will be in charge of all family matters. I will listen to her. I will go back now and find someone to gather my property. When your mother recovers, I will hand it over to her."

"Uncle Yan, I'm afraid my mother is not interested in what you said." Jiang Hongyu felt that these would not impress his mother.

"I know your mother isn't interested, but I can't help but give it to her. This is my sincerity. Since I've decided to marry her, I won't hide anything from her."

Jiang Hongyu called out to the excited Uncle Yan with a headache: "Uncle Yan, I didn't say I agreed to let my mother marry you."

Uncle Yan's face visibly darkened. "Hongyu, I've watched you grow up. You should know my character very well."

This sounds so awkward.

But Jiang Hongyu couldn't refute it. After all, Uncle Yan was his martial arts master and had been very good to him over the years.

"Uncle Yan, I can't be a good master for my mother. My mother has been with me for so many years. She has suffered a lot and endured a lot. What kind of life she wants to live in the future and whether she wants to get married should be her own decision."

Jiang Hongyu said seriously, "Let my mother decide on her own marriage."

Uncle Yan's face was filled with anxiety, and he started to walk towards the inner courtyard: "I'll go ask your mother."

"Wait," Jiang Hongyu called out to Uncle Yan, "You and my mother have known each other for many years, why didn't you marry her back then?"

Uncle Yan's eyes were filled with regret: "How would I have known your father was that kind of person? Of course I fell in love with your mother first, and your father actually found someone to propose marriage in advance."

There was actually such a thing. Jiang Hongyu couldn't imagine that his father could do such a thing.

"Actually, after I came here, I asked your mother for marriage, but she didn't agree. She said she was afraid you would be wronged and wanted to protect you until you grew up. Now that you've grown up and are getting married, will your mother agree?"

There was a sense of grievance in Uncle Yan's tone, but there was a hint of hope at the end.

Jiang Hongyu guessed that Aunt Jiang did not agree to Uncle Yan's proposal because she was infertile.

She said she didn't care about children, but her inability to have children made her care about children more than anyone else.

"Uncle Yan, when you talked to my mother, you said you didn't care about the child, as long as the two of you were fine."

Jiang Hongyu looked at Uncle Yan's anxious face, lowered his head slightly, and when he looked up again, he said this.

Uncle Yan didn't understand what Jiang Hongyu meant, but he nodded obediently and went to the inner courtyard.

In order to avoid suspicion, Uncle Yan entered Aunt Jiang's room with the door open and Jiang Hongyu watched from a distance.

Half an hour had passed and Uncle Yan came out of the house with a happy face.

He patted Uncle Yan's shoulder and said, "Hongyu, I'm going to take inventory and bring it over to your mother later. I'll also have someone go to the capital to buy some fashionable fabrics. I'll also ask someone to invite a doctor from the capital to treat your mother."

After saying that, he shook his head again: "I'm afraid the doctor in the capital has seen your mother, so I'd better find a doctor in the prefecture."

After Uncle Yan finished speaking, he went out happily.

Jiang Hongyu looked at Aunt Jiang's room and heard a voice from inside: "Hongyu, are you outside?"

"I'm here." Jiang Hongyu restrained the expression on his face and walked in.

"I've already told your uncle Yan that I can't have children. He said he didn't care and swore he would never take a concubine. He also sorted out all his things and gave them to me. I'm going to marry him."

Aunt Jiang's face showed shyness but also relaxation: "I want to live a more relaxed life in the future."

"Mom, as long as you are happy." Jiang Hongyu uttered after a long while.

"Well, do you have any objection?" Aunt Jiang looked a little nervous.

Jiang Hongyu quickly put away the expression on his face: "No objection, of course I have no objection."

He chatted with Aunt Jiang for a few more words, and after Aunt Jiang lay down, he returned to the room in the front yard and began to rummage through the drawers and cabinets looking for something.

After a while, he packed up a box and moved it to the backyard, to his and Ye Mingzhu's room.

"Mingzhu, please keep these things." He licked the corner of his lips and put the box in front of Ye Mingzhu.
