Chapter 23 On the boat (5)...
In the blink of an eye, Leo picked her up sideways like a doll. The movement was so big that Irene's skirt flipped up like butterfly wings, and Leo caught it and tucked it under Irene's legs where she was resting on his arm.
He leaned sideways and hooked the door with his foot. With a "click", the door closed tightly. Leo then turned around and carried Irene along the corridor towards the banquet hall.
This series of movements was fast and harmonious, as if Leo had practiced it countless times in secret.
The boy held his neck stiffly and just carried her as he walked. He did not dare to lower his head, for fear of seeing Irene's angry and hateful eyes.
By the time Irene reacted, Leo had already walked five meters away.
"What on earth do you want to do?" Irene was so shocked that she didn't even have time to be angry. She struggled to jump down, but Leo's arms were as hard as steel, holding down her struggling movements.
She was making so much noise that Leo had no choice but to put one hand on her shoulder, pressing Irene against his left chest.
No matter how she hammered or tossed him around, Leo didn't seem to care at all. He walked very quickly, as if he was worried that he would miss some exciting plot if he didn't hurry up.
Irene was so angry that she wanted to cry without caring about anything. To be honest, after traveling through time, she seemed to be getting more and more fragile, or in other words, Irene felt that she was gradually losing control of her life.
She was like a fly, being chased and hit by the huge fly swatter of fate, and could only flee around in a panic.
Not to mention the quality of life, she was lucky to be alive and well to have the next meal. How could she, who had lived in a safe environment since childhood, cope with this?
She imagined that after they escaped from Mobile, at least their lives would no longer be threatened. However, she didn't expect that they would encounter such a thing as a chandelier falling down as soon as they got on the boat.
Irene bit her lip and suddenly felt that Rochester was an unreachable fantasy place. Could she still reach Rochester alive?
The more she thought about it, the more pessimistic she became. She leaned against Leo's chest in self-abandonment. Her lips were bitten red and she could vaguely taste the blood, but her cheeks were cold and pale.
The sound of Leo's heartbeat rang in her ears, getting heavier and faster, traveling along her ribs to her mind which was pressed against his chest.
Irene raised her head, and like countless times before, she half forced and half habitually shifted her attention to Leo's almost perfect face.
She has to find some hope to survive, and as long as she survives, she has hope.
She tried her best to comfort herself. At least Leo was still by her side. Even if it was just for Leo's face, she had to survive and complete her own portfolio.
She believed that there was a destiny in everything and that only those who endured hardships could become successful. She must not let down the expectations of the time-traveling god.
But I don’t know what Leo is going to take her to do?
Anyway, as long as she is not thrown into the sea to feed the sharks, it will be fine. Irene tiredly put her cheek on the boy's slightly thin left chest and suddenly complained:
"The perfume you're wearing stinks. It's too strong. It makes me dizzy."
She originally wanted to ask Leo why he smelled like roses, but then she changed her mind and realized that even if she asked Leo, she couldn't give her an answer now. Instead of holding back her anger, it would be better to let him know why she was angry.
"Don't make yourself stink like that again, okay? Blink twice if you understand."
As she spoke, her voice became lower and lower, and she almost trembled in the end.
After she finished speaking, Irene's face flushed, not because she was afraid. She just clearly noticed that Leo's hand holding her suddenly tightened, and his fingers that were originally loosely placed on her waist tightened and clasped her waist, his fingertips sunk into the soft flesh on her waist, which was surprisingly hot, and the hand that was holding her thigh also retracted.
Leo heard a "boom" in his head as if it had exploded. He lowered his head slowly, his face was so tense that it turned purple, and his eyes were almost panic-stricken.
It seemed that Irene had never spoken to him in such a coquettish, complaining tone before.
What did she ask him to do?
Blink twice?
Leo looked down at Irene nervously, and the woman raised an eyebrow, motioning for him to continue.
The golden-brown eyelashes trembled and closed twice, and the thin skin on the boy's eyelids turned red. Leo quickly turned his head away.
Then his beautiful eyes became still.
It was only after a minute or two that Irene realized that Leo suddenly stopped blinking. It wasn't that he stopped blinking completely. When his eyes felt particularly sore, he would squeeze his eyes, leaving a narrow gap, as if he didn't close his eyes completely.
Help, how can someone be so obedient, stupid and cute? Irene's heart is melting.
"I told you to blink twice, I didn't tell you not to blink twice, stupid."
Irene saw that the tips of Leo's ears were turning red, and the boy blinked quickly several times before the redness in his eyes faded away.
The woman's joyful gaze almost made Leo dizzy. His Adam's apple slipped, and as if he couldn't bear it any longer, he fixed Irene's head firmly on his chest, not allowing her to look up at him again.
If Irene continued to stare at him, he would soon lose his way.
The woman in his arms did not struggle, but just laughed twice, but even her laughter seemed to be breathed ambiguously into his ears, with a slight mockery and temptation.
Bad woman, Leo silently complained to Irene, but his hands honestly hugged her tighter.
Not far away, Leo suddenly turned sideways into an even narrower passage. The dark red carpet was dotted with stains of varying depths, which looked like oil paint. The wall lamps on the wall continued to emit a soft dark yellow light, making the place look particularly old.
No, that's not a sense of the times, Irene suddenly realized and forced a wry smile, this was the characteristic of the era she was currently living in.
The oppressive and narrow passage gave Irene a bad feeling. She unconsciously pulled the fabric under the middle button of Leo's shirt tightly. Her palms seemed to be sweating and sticky and hot, and Leo's expensive silk was left with marks from being squeezed.
Leo moved very quietly to a very narrow side door. The door was not locked and opened easily with a push. Leo entered the house carefully and locked the door behind him.
Irene jumped off him and looked around.
Is there such a small room in the first-class cabin? Irene walked around in surprise. It was two times smaller than the house on the corner. The light was dim, the air was stuffy, and there was dust floating in the air. There was only a narrow single bed against the wall.
She had no place to sit.
"Whose room is this and what are we doing here?" Irene asked Leo in confusion.
But when she looked back at Leo, she was shocked. Leo was fiddling with the closet, and Irene watched him take out a wooden baffle.
She had reasonable suspicion that Leo was destroying personal property.
"What are you doing!" Although it was Leo who did the bad thing, Irene lowered her voice like a thief. She slapped Leo hard to show her dissatisfaction.
Suddenly, heavy footsteps were heard outside the door.
Leo dragged Irene into the closet. The two of them were squeezed into the small space. Irene finally realized that something was wrong.
"You brought me here to eavesdrop?"
She lowered her voice, but she couldn't hide the sudden anger in her tone.
Eavesdropping was a complete violation of the values she had been taught since childhood, and she was forced to eavesdrop. Irene was so angry that her face turned pale.
As she spoke, she wanted to rush out. Leo was stunned for a moment, then quickly hugged Irene into his arms and hooked his legs to press her legs down.
There were a few low curses mixed in with the footsteps. She could vaguely tell through the door that the voices were familiar, but Irene couldn't remember it for a while.
There was a sound of a door opening in the next room, and this time the man's voice was much clearer. It was Edward.
No, Irene frowned, it doesn't make sense, they are separated by a wall and she can't hear what they are saying outside, but how come she can hear what Edward says as soon as he enters the room.
Unless there is a problem with the wall connecting the two houses.
Irene was shocked. Sure enough, there was a wooden board the size of a head on the inner wall of the cabinet where they were. It was the one Leo had just taken out. The light from the next room was faintly shining through this gap.
She didn't dare to speak now. Since Edward's voice could be heard, her voice could be heard too.
Irene glared at Leo fiercely and covered her ears hard to show her determination not to listen, but even with her ears covered, the sound from next door could still be heard faintly.
Leo turned his head away in embarrassment, his mood falling to the bottom. He didn't realize that Irene was angry with him because she was forced to eavesdrop. He only saw that after Edward entered the next room, Irene's face changed instantly and she looked at him with a cold brow.
But even so, even if she would hate him and dislike him, he had to let her know what kind of person Edward was. How could such a person be worthy of Irene's true love.
Even if he didn't deserve to stand by Irene's side, this kind of person was even less worthy.
The crisp sound of high heels was heard outside the door again, and the person walked into the next room and the door was closed.
The woman said, "What's wrong Edward, what trouble are you in?"
"Big trouble," Edward said anxiously, "I suspect someone has discovered that I want to kill Irene, and I'm afraid Irene will soon find out too."
The next room was quiet for two seconds, and then Irene heard the sound of a lighter going off.
“Then why didn’t you get rid of this man?” The woman’s tone suddenly turned cold, “You should have killed him immediately instead of complaining like a child here.”
"But it was you who came up with the idea of killing Irene," Edward said with great resentment.
"But it wasn't me who did it, little darling." The woman seemed to blow out a smoke ring and said sarcastically, "If I were you, I would have taken a dagger and done my job now."
"What about you? You do nothing but watch the joke?"
Edward sounded devastated.
The woman softened her tone, “What I’m going to do is about to happen now.”
From the next room came the sound of clothes rubbing against each other.
Edward groaned in despair.
This time, Leo took the initiative to cover her ears, tightly, and put the baffle he had just taken out of the cabinet back, pressing it tightly.
The voice instantly became much lower.
Damn, Irene couldn't help but swear, he committed adultery, murdered his wife, and now he wants to kill her.
All men are bad, she thought viciously, including Leo.
Couldn't he just tell her what Edward wanted to do? Did she have to hear this dirty thing with her own ears?
Leo gently opened the cabinet. Irene straightened up while suppressing her anger and subconsciously slowed down her steps. She was afraid of attracting the attention of the neighbors, but the anger in her chest was about to explode.
Leo's arm felt cold, and then suddenly a burning pain surged up. Irene bit the soft flesh on his forearm hard. He could feel the woman's soft tongue against his skin and hot air coming out of her nose.
Fortunately, he wiped his forearms when he washed his hands before going out. Leo's Adam's apple rolled up and down twice.
Her tongue is so soft, I want to hold it and kiss it.
