Chapter 11 Fishing

Suddenly, Qin Tao saw a fish right under her nose. She quickly reached out, only to feel the fish's tail slap her hand. Disappointed, she said, "It got away again."

"Mine got away too! How can these fish be so smart?" Qin Yan was extremely disappointed. "Third Aunt, do you have any ideas?"

Her eyes were full of expectation.

Yunling had just watched and noticed that the two little girls weren't looking directly at the fish when they were catching them; they were using the refraction of light. Suddenly, she looked at the vines to the side.

"Let me try."

Half an hour later, Qin Tao and her friends saw a bird's nest in front of them, with weeds covering the bottom of the nest.

“When you see the little fish swimming above the bird’s nest, suddenly lift the nest straight up,” Yunling said.

She originally intended to weave a fish basket, but the gaps were too large, so she lined it with weeds, and slowly the fish basket turned into a bird's nest.

Qin Tao hesitated and asked, "...Will this work?"

Yunling said nonchalantly, "Why not give it a try? It won't cost any money anyway."

Qin Yan excitedly took the freshly made bird's nest to the river and slowly placed it underwater.

Soon, a small fish slowly swam over. Qin Yan patiently waited for the fish to swim to the top of the bird's nest, then suddenly lifted it up, revealing a lively little fish inside the nest.

Just as the little fish was about to jump out, Qin Yan slapped it shut.

Once ashore, Qin Yan handed the small fish to Qin Tao, who then strung them together with a vine.

Qin Yan became even more excited and continued to wait patiently. By the time the workday ended, they had caught many small fish.

The group of people were walking home along a path when they encountered some children who saw the fish the group was carrying and asked them where they had caught them.

Qin Tao pointed in a direction, and after they left, Qin Yan was unhappy and said angrily, "Why did you tell them? Otherwise, we could have gone to catch them tomorrow."

That small pond is in a rather remote location, surrounded by a lot of weeds, so it's not usually frequented.

“These all belong to the government. If we report them, Grandpa won’t be able to be the brigade leader anymore,” Qin Tao said.

She was still very cautious.

Yunling raised an eyebrow. To report something so trivial? She'd ask Qin Chuan tonight to make sure he hadn't made any mistakes.

Zhang Guihua was tidying up chives in the yard, preparing to make some pancakes for dinner, when she heard a noise. She looked up and saw the small fish Qin Yan was holding, and immediately smiled, "Where did you catch these?"

Qin Yan took a basin, put the small fish in it, and excitedly told them how they caught the fish.

When Zhang Guihua heard that it was her third son's wife's idea, her smile deepened, and she asked, "How have you been lately?"

Yunling moved a stool and sat down next to her. She helped clean the chives, saying, "It's a little better than when we first arrived."

"Indeed, your complexion is much rosier. In the future, if you feel unwell, please let us know so as not to delay treatment," Zhang Guihua said.

If I faint again, it will cost a lot of money.

Yunling smiled and said, "Thank you, Mother. You're so good to me."

Zhang Guihua felt a little uncomfortable being praised, so she changed the subject, saying, "I'll make you pancakes tonight with chives in them."

Looking at his skinny granddaughter, he added, "Add two more eggs, and make it taste better."

The regulations are strict now; a family can only raise a maximum of three chickens. And chickens don't lay eggs every day; it's considered good if you can find two eggs a day.
