Chapter 11 Fishing

"Excuse me, did you graduate from high school?" Yunling asked.

Qin Chuan nodded: "I graduated from high school. It was a bit chaotic back then. The school gave us a break, and we didn't attend classes for more than a few days. We went straight to the exam, and the test was quite easy. That's how I got my high school diploma."

His voice was tinged with laughter: "Besides, I really don't like studying. If my mother hadn't forced me to, I'd probably still be an illiterate person who can't read a single word."

Yunling blinked and said, "Me too."

When she was little, she was ignorant and ran away from home to avoid going to school, which resulted in her being severely beaten by her grandmother.

It was only with the rewards from her grandmother that she was able to persevere.

Later, when she grew older, she realized that for her at that time, studying was the best way out.

Qin Chuan smiled and said, "No need to comfort me, go to sleep! Prepare well these next two days. The job of a scorekeeper is much easier than working in the fields or cutting pig feed."

"Is everyone participating?" Yunling asked curiously.

Qin Chuan: "Yes, everyone participated, including the educated youth. My dad treated the educated youth quite fairly."

Other brigades of educated youth did not receive such good treatment. Generally, good jobs, such as teachers or scorekeepers, would not be offered to educated youth.

After a while, seeing that Yunling hadn't moved, he said gently, "Don't be nervous, just do your best. If you don't pass the exam, we'll think of other ways."

Yunling: "Okay."

In her previous life, she had at least graduated from university and worked in finance.

Getting the scorekeeper job shouldn't be a problem.

Qin Chuan got up and turned off the light.

Yunling rolled inside and closed her eyes.

That night, Qin Chuan was kicked awake again. Looking at Yun Ling rolling over, his eyes were filled with helplessness.

After thinking about it, since they were husband and wife anyway, he simply put his arm around her.

We can't afford to make any more trouble now!

That night, he was not woken up again. He opened his eyes, gently released Yunling, who was sleeping soundly in his arms, and got up to get dressed.

After washing up, I went to wake Yunling, who was fast asleep.

When Yunling sat up, she felt sore all over. She twisted her neck and looked at Qin Chuan, who was repairing the wardrobe, and asked, "Did I wake you up these past two days?"

Qin Chuan paused, then said without looking up, "It's alright."

Yunling wondered if she had become a better sleeper now. She used to be a very restless sleeper, kicking and punching, and often rolled off the bed when she was a child.

When she was in high school, the dormitory had bunk beds. She lived on the top bunk, and on her very first day, she fell off.

Her roommates are scared and no one dares to let her sleep in the top bunk anymore.

Thinking about it, I still feel a little nostalgic.

After Yunling finished washing up, she glanced at the wardrobe, tugged at it, and saw that Qin Chuan had repaired it very well; there was no need to worry about the wardrobe door falling off.

After finishing their meal, Yunling took the two girls to gather pig feed, accompanied by Aunt Zhou.

Aunt Zhou looked Yunling up and down and noticed that she didn't look down on people like the other educated youth, so she started chatting with Yunling.

As they chatted, the topic turned to the educated youth settlement. Aunt Zhou asked, "Yun, do you know where Fang's money was eventually found?"

Before Yunling could answer, Aunt Zhou continued, "It was found under the bed. Fang Zhiqing made a fuss for a long time, but still couldn't find out who stole the money."

"Fang Zhiqing always says he's Chen Zhiqing, but I don't know if it's true or not. I've never seen a hundred yuan before." Aunt Zhou clicked her tongue twice, extremely envious. Fang Zhiqing's family must be very rich, that a girl sent to the countryside would have a hundred yuan on her.

If her grandson weren't still so young, she would have wanted him to marry this golden boy.

Yunling wasn't envious. The original owner had also brought fifty yuan with her when she went to the countryside. She spent ten yuan on medicine when she got sick, and now she had forty yuan left. She had food and lodging at the Qin family's house, so she didn't have many places to spend money.

Forty yuan can last a long time.

They chatted and worked at the same time, and time flew by. Before long, they had finished gathering two baskets of pig feed. Aunt Zhou had to go home to cook, so she left early.

After seeing Grandma Zhou leave, Qin Yan pulled Yunling aside and whispered, "Third Aunt, I saw fish in the river. Can we finish cutting pig feed earlier this afternoon and then go to the river to catch fish?"

Yunling thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. She had been here for less than a week, and her biggest impressions were the scarcity of supplies and the sheer boredom.

Otherwise, people in this era wouldn't love watching the excitement so much.

That afternoon, Qin Chuan came to help. The three of them finished cutting pig feed in half the usual time. Yun Ling also quickly finished chopping the pig feed. After registering with Grandpa Liu, they went to the place Qin Yan had mentioned.

The Yunxi Brigade is named this because a river flows around the brigade towards the county town.

The place Qin Yan was referring to was a pool upstream. The water was shallow and clear, and the sunlight shone on the surface, creating a shimmering, golden glow. Fish the size of a palm swam around underwater.

Qin Yan was excited when she saw the fish in the river. She quickly took off her shoes and was about to rush into the river.

Qin Tao's face was also beaming with smiles, and Yun Ling took off her shoes and went into the river to wade and play.

It's summer now, and the river water is warm and comfortable under the sun, like soaking in a hot spring.

The fish in the water looked slow, but they always managed to slip away. Qin Yan tried to catch them several times without success, which made her very frustrated.

"Don't you have a fishing net at home?" Yunling asked, with a large leaf on her head.

Qin Yan shook her head and said dejectedly, "I used to have it, but it was broken last year when I was fishing, so it's unusable now."

Qin Tao stared at the fish swimming around in the water and added, "Grandma Hu has some, but she won't lend them to us. We can only borrow fishing nets when Sister Hanxiu is home."
