Chapter 5 Waiting for the Rabbit

He walked briskly to the two little girls, proudly raising his chin: "Look what this is!"

"What a fat rabbit!" Qin Yan jumped up excitedly, hopped to Yun Ling's side, and touched the rabbit; it was warm.

Qin Tao was also very happy: "Third Aunt, you know how to hunt?"

Yunling chuckled: "No, I found it. I had just gotten under that tree when this rabbit ran into me. I don't know who hit it, but it has a big hole in its stomach and is bleeding."

She wandered around for a while, but no one came.

"Where did you find it? I'll go take another look." Qin Yan looked up, her gaze fixed intently on Yun Ling.

Yunling pointed in a direction, and Qin Yan ran over excitedly. After a while, she ran back looking dejected.

"Alright, I was just lucky. You guys were lucky too. Didn't you find a huge patch of wild strawberries? Have you picked them yet?"

Qin Yan nodded: "We've finished picking them. Let's eat them when we get back. Third Aunt, do you need me to carry the rabbit?"

Yunling looked at her small frame and asked doubtfully, "Can you lift it?"

Qin Yan nodded decisively: "Yes."

"Okay, then you can take it. Call me if you can't carry it." Yunling Rabbit handed it to her.

Because of the rabbit, the three of them walked home along the path. As soon as they got home, Qin Yan immediately closed the door and called out loudly for her aunt.

Qin Tiantian came out of the kitchen and immediately saw the rabbit on the ground. She asked in surprise, "Who caught it?"

Qin Tao quickly recounted what had just happened. Qin Yan squatted down next to the rabbit, touched it—it was so meaty! She swallowed hard, looked up, and asked, "Can we eat this for lunch?"

Qin Tiantian weighed the rabbit in her hand and said, "You'll have to ask your grandma."

Then, noticing the wild strawberries Qin Tao was holding, he instructed, "Remember to wash them before eating, otherwise the bugs will end up in your tummy."

Qin Tao and Qin Yan shuddered; the thought of worms in their stomachs was terrifying.

"We will definitely wash the strawberries thoroughly."

Qin Tiantian patted their little heads, then looked at Yunling beside her and asked, "Third Sister-in-law, would you like some water?"

Yunling was too tired to move. After graduating from university, she worked in finance and sat all day. She hadn't done this much physical labor in a long time and was too tired to get up, so she said, "I'll drink it later."

Qin Tiantian brought over a glass of water. Yunling smiled at her, took it, and drank a sip. She added sugar, and it tasted sweet. This little sister of hers was so kind.

Thumbs up for her.

"Third Sister-in-law, you're amazing! I've never caught a pheasant or a rabbit before. I can never catch one when I see them." Qin Tiantian was very impressed. Not everyone has such good luck.

Yunling smiled and said, "This is my first time too."

She had encountered many cats, dogs, and rabbits faking accidents in her past life, but this was the first time she had ever seen one.

The workday ended, and Zhang Guihua and the others returned, also learning that Yunling had found a rabbit.

Liu Yun glanced at the chubby rabbit on the ground, swallowed hard, and looked at Yun Ling with expectant eyes: "What, what's taking me to pick up rabbits too?"

"Do you think you can just pick up a rabbit whenever you want?" Zhang Guihua glared at her, annoyed.

She had only ever picked up wild eggs, never wild chickens.

Liu Yun retorted, "If my third sister-in-law, who looks like she could be blown over by the wind, can be found, why can't I?"

Zhang Guihua looked at her with a half-smile: "Then next time you pick one up and bring it back for me to see."

Qin Shan took a sip of water, and seeing his wife arguing again, he called out, "Liu Yun, give Xiao Rui some water to drink."

Liu Yun looked at Yunling, "Third brother's wife, remember to take me next time?"

"Alright, alright, you're getting all worked up over just a few words. Third daughter-in-law was just lucky this time; how could she keep running into this again?" Zhang Guihua was extremely impatient. This eldest daughter-in-law was still so oblivious to her feelings, only knowing how to take advantage of others—it was so annoying!

She glared fiercely at Qin Shan, thinking, "What kind of lousy wife did you find?"

Qin Shan touched his nose and grinned foolishly.

Looking at the rabbit's big butt, Zhang Guihua swallowed hard and said, "We'll eat it for lunch tomorrow. Xiuxiu, come back early tomorrow."

Wang Xiuxiu is the best cook in the family; she always makes meat whenever there's meat in the house.

Wang Xiuxiu nodded and said, "I understand."

"Why haven't your third brother and your father come back yet?" Zhang Guihua asked, looking at the doorway.

Qin Shan pulled his wife, who was still arguing, behind him and said, "When they finished work, I saw them heading in the direction of the educated youth settlement."

Upon hearing the name of the educated youth settlement, all eyes turned to Yunling.

After Yunling finished eating a wild strawberry, she said, "I don't know, I didn't go to the educated youth settlement today."

"Xiao Tao, get some wild strawberries for your mother," Liu Yun called out.

What an ingrate! She doesn't even know to share good things with the parents who gave her life and raised her.

Qin Tao pinched two pieces and placed them in her palm, then gave them to the others one by one.

Zhang Guihua accepted it with a smile: "My granddaughter is so sensible."
