Chapter 66: School Registration
Qiao Qinglu arrived early, and the dormitory 221 assigned to her had not yet been occupied. This dormitory was a six-person room with beds on both the upper and lower bunks.
The dormitory door faces the glass window. On the left are two groups of four stacked wooden cabinets and four bunk beds. On the right is one group of two stacked wooden cabinets and two bunk beds.
In the middle hallway, there are 6 small tables that open upwards and 6 chairs placed side by side, and 6 wall cabinets hanging on the door frame facing the glass window.
Qiao Qinglu chose the upper bunk on the left, the table closest to the door on the left, and the cabinet on the wall on the left, then went to fetch water. After she fetched the water, Xiao Qinyun began to clean the dormitory, wiping 6 sets of tables and chairs, 6 cabinets and windows, while Qiao Qinglu wiped the bedposts and the upper bunk bed board.
After wiping, Qiao Qinglu took out a thick stack of old newspapers from the space while no one was in the room. She first spread the newspapers on the bed board, and then put the mattress issued by the school and her own mattress on it. Then she began to spread the sheets, put the quilt and pillow.
After she made the bed and Xiao Qinyun finished his work, she started to tinker with the cabinet.
The cabinet was not big, and was divided into two layers by a partition. She first took out the partition and covered it with newspapers, then took out thumbtacks from her bag. After pinning newspapers on three sides of the cabinet, she put the partition in place and covered it with another layer of newspapers.
Then she put the spare clothes, socks, and toilet paper on the upper layer, and the military water bottle, aluminum lunch box, flashlight, clothes hanger, needles and thread on the lower layer, and locked the cabinet.
Then she spread the newspaper on the desk, put the textbooks, comb, mirror and ink into the drawer, and locked the desk.
Finally, after putting the slippers, toothpaste, toothbrush, enamel pot, towel and enamel basin under the bed, she put the remaining old newspapers on her desk, carried the thermos and Xiao Qinyun downstairs.
After they went downstairs to ask the aunt where the bathroom was, Xiao Qinyun was responsible for fetching water, while Qiao Qinglu borrowed a hammer and pliers and went upstairs.
After she returned to the dormitory, she found a spot on the left wall of the upper bunk and the wall near the window, and then found a spot on the ceiling. Then, Qiao Qinglu, who was covering the bed with newspapers, took a hammer and nails and started knocking on them.
Soon, the three nails were nailed in, and Qiao Qinglu took out the bed guard with small cloth strips sewn on it and began to string the wire. After stringing, she cut the wire with pliers.
After a while, the dark blue small bed guard was hung up, so that she had a private space and no one would know what she did on the upper bunk.
After doing all this, Xiao Qinyun came back with water, and Qiao Qinglu also made a list of the things she had forgotten in her notebook. She still needed a kang table, a small bookshelf on the wall, a small alarm clock, an umbrella, a notebook, and an English-Chinese dictionary. She would pack up Xiao Qinyun's dormitory and go home to make plans later.
After they went downstairs and returned the hammer to the old lady, Qiao Qinglu then stuffed a handful of White Rabbit milk candies into her hand and asked her to keep them for her children. After initially refusing, the old lady accepted them, and the smile on her face became more sincere.
It was now 9:30. Xiao Qinyun asked Qiao Qinglu to walk around the school first while he went home to get his luggage. They would meet at the west gate of Huaxia University at 10:10.
So, Qiao Qinglu started walking around the school. She unexpectedly discovered that there was a small shop selling student supplies in the school. They were selling alarm clocks, umbrellas, and notebooks. She had money and tickets for everything, so she decided to buy two.
When she was carrying the things she bought back to the dormitory, she found that the door was open and someone was coming.
When she walked in, she saw a well-dressed aunt making the lower bunk of the bed opposite her. A round-faced girl with two pigtails was sorting things on a desk by the window on the right. There were two travel bags on the floor.
The two of them were stunned when they saw her come in, and then the aunt greeted her warmly, "Girl, are you also a student in this dormitory?"
Qiao Qinglu stepped forward and nodded slightly. "Hey everyone, I'm also a student in this dormitory. My name is Qiao Qinglu, I'm a student in the Spanish Department, and I'm from Yanjing."

Qiao Qinglu repeatedly refused, "Auntie, I appreciate your kindness, but this fried dough twist is too big, I can't eat it."
Auntie took out a piece of brown paper from the desk and handed it to her. "Pick a bun of your favorite flavor and eat it within a month. You can't refuse Auntie's kindness."
The aunties in Yanjing and Jinshi were all very welcoming. Qiao Qinglu thanked the aunt for her kindness, picked up a large hemp bun with black sesame seeds, and locked the alarm clock and notebook in the lower layer of the cabinet.
